I guess even Apple didn't consider Clovertown an upgrade.[/size]

Nope! It was an addition to the lineup. There was no change to any of the Mac Pros that Apple started selling in August of 2006.

Haven't we said that since April now?

Yelp, but some people don't believe it and say the Mac Pros were updated in April of 2007. Straight from the horse's mouth :)apple: that is) the Mac Pro hasn't been updated since its introduction in August 2006.

AHHHHH!

I cant believe it!
That actually updated the macbooks before the macpros!!

Geez, that stinks, the macbooks didnt even really need it (especially compared to the macpros). I hope this means that the macpro updates are just around the corner.....

...or maybe they'll update the rest of the line up before the macpros...

gotta love apple:apple:

If the MacBooks can receive updated speeds and graphics and be silent with it, they could do the same with the MacPros. Don't understand Apple. Hopefully they are just waiting for Intel on 11/12. It's just a speed update and graphics. That's all. Update better come within the next week or so.

I don't think it will be a silent update. There are too many things that need refreshed. I think Apple will crow about it when they finally announce it. I expect the new chips, updated min RAM, new video options, increased baseline storage as the minimum. Hopefully eSATA, an HD optical drive option, and built in RAID, too.

I just wish someone from one of the rumor sites would take this on as an assignment and dig out some facts. There isn't another item on the Apple lineup that hasn't been refreshed in the last few months that I can think of.

My guess is they quickly rolled out everything else to just focus on the MacPro within the next week or so and have a grand announcement on 11/13.

The AppleTV, although this mostly needs software updates at this point. Can I please have a weather report?!

Yes! I've found it odd that there haven't been hardly any columnists wondering out loud about the glaring lack of attention the Mac Pro has (hasn't) been getting... unless it's obvious to them and not to me why the MP's been neglected so. I'm beginning to feel petulant.

Penryn based Mac Pros soon? Sheesh, how about new Mac Pros ever?

Ok - sorry - that was truly petulant. I'm done now.

See, I will follow it too, but what scares me is what it says under the Xserve. 452 (Avg = 309). MacPro is well over 400 days as well.

If my quick math is correct, Mac Pro is at 467 days and ticking. Well over double the average listed in the MR buyer's guide, but that average would be slightly skewed since they do indeed count April as an update, which I disagree with, but there it is.

see the positive side... if you buy the new one in a week or so it will stay new for 400 days ... where else do you get such deals?! :apple:

It just occurred to me that no-one has mentioned the possibility of a MacPro redesign? The iMacs - started out life as a G5 and then got the intel chips then got a redesign, there's rumors everywhere about the MacMini getting a facelift (MacNano or whatever) so why not the MacPro? With the recent 'glass and aluminium' trend I'd personally love to see how that might look in a workstation.

I'm hoping they make an update soon as well, and would like to see an entry level machine around $2000.

There really is a gap between the iMac and Mac Pro.

There can't be an entry level MacPro at $2000, that's way too close to the iMac prices. Why would someone even consider buying an iMac then, when they could purchase a MacPro 4x faster for the same price? It'll stay with the traditional price range, $2499 for mid-range. Or maybe $2399.

Also, you don't have a brother, Brian Mosher, do you? lol

It doesn't need a redesign. The G5 cases and the MacPro cases are completely different. The MacPro cases are perfect, what else could the change if everything is gonna end up the same in the end?

Well even at $2000 you would still need to purchase an LCD. I'd like to see something come along that offers more expandability than an iMac, but perhaps with a consumer level CPU. Even an iMac type configuration in a tower style case.

Nope, no brothers names Brian.

Perfect? That's a brave statement! And does that mean that Jonathan Ive is some kind of deity? It's not that I don't agree, I think it's one of the most refined designs on the planet (of any product), but I thought that about the 1st gen iPod nano and that's changed twice now.

2am

sunday 2am... I'm sitting here in the office crunching some 10.000 files ... what does this tell us? ... It tells us that I need this new mac not next week but yesterday.

pleeeeease...... :eek::eek::eek:

hmm.never thought about that way, just one thing.. imac is for design and space-saving.And build mostly of laptop-parts..
so they do have a gap..a midtower wich you can upgrade with none laptop parts would be less cheap..
