Ok.. ****!

I literally just purchased my first mbpro - 3k with tax!

And now I see that they're set for a major update...

What should I do - attempt to cancel order tomorrow AM and hold out for the update which sounds like its coming within the next couple weeks??

UGH

He said 'Macbook Pro' not 'Macbook'. Presuming dollars, $3000 is quite possible with the MBP I believe.

Ya, this is the right thread for that ...

So hopefully tomorrow there's a MacPro announcement. :D

I just ordered a 2.6GHz 17" MBP with 250GB HDD and Hi-Res screen. Decided to max it out as much as I could, but will get RAM elsewhere. It comes to less than £2000, or almost $4000.

Am waiting for a new Mac Pro, too. When's the rumoured announcement? This week or next?

No worries :)

I'm also waiting with baited breath for this Mac Pro update. I certainly hope its soon too, hopefully specced with the ATI 3970 or whatever it is.

The 8800GT certainly seems to be taking the world by storm. Apple would make a lot of people happy if this was a BTO option.

Woops! Sorry about that guys - my very first post and I messed it up =/

Anyways... I guess I should cancel the order then =(

When it is said to be Penryn based are we actually meaning Harpertown? If so then isn't the title misleading?

disp.

i wonder what's going to happen with the displays if there's a macpro update... any rumours in that regard?!

And what kind of bait are you using to cause you to have bated breath?;)

Whoops! I'm using £2000 worth of notes, that's my bait for Apple.... :D
I just hope that beast bites, a beasty octo-core, 8800GT, 4GB RAM beast...... beast.

I so hope we have a release this nov....I pawned all my old stuff off on ebay to scrounge up enough cash...Up to $2200...All....Most....there..... :) (well at least with a student discount lol) Will definitely have to add a little on the plastic card if the 8800GT is a BTO option...but i'm not getting my hopes up!

(sign up on Wild Bills sig link and tell apple you want an 8800GT!!)

I've filled a few of those out and I'd be more than happy with the GT, and that's probably what we'll get. As long as it's not one of the under-performing 2900s or an 8600.

A more exciting announcement would be the graphics card equivalent of "free love". Of course, there's no incentive for Apple to do so: I know I'm buying a Mac Pro only because my old graphics card can hardly run youtube (no joke) and I can't upgrade. Otherwise, Apple wouldn't be getting my cash for another few years. :(

Borderless screens

This is sort of random, but I heard from a pretty good source within another PC maker that has knowledge of the OEM market that Apple is working on laptops with borderless displays, locking up much of the near-term production capacity for this type of system.

I don't know if this would be for updated MacBook Pros or for something new.
This is probably more like a Page 10 rumor, and given that I have no track record, I understand the doubts, but I had to share.

I think physically at the moment, you need a border of some form for the signal wires to run round the lcd unit ... its not much of a border, but you still needed.

*IF* something like a borderless screen were to manifest itself, i think the borderless aspect would come from the glass cover reaching right to the very edge with a small black border behind it ... much in a similar manner to the revised iMac design where the glass appears to extend all the way to the edge, but the image from the LCD noticable within that by a good margin.
