did you also notice in the Japan, Australia, Netherlands, Denmark, Hong Kong stores that there are no more "limited time specials" on the current generation iMacs? and that the UK and France stores only have some 20" models, and the Italian store only has the high end 2.8 Core 2 Extreme model left?

'cause i did... :p

i think now they're doing both maintenance and update since the north american stores have been down for 5 hours now... i'm expecting all the stores to go down soon with new iMacs in the morning...
It's 10 a.m. at CET (central europe time) and the german store is still online... Although there are three "Limited Time Special Price" iMacs (2.0 20'', 2.4 20'', 2.4 24'') in refurbished section...

--- Still hoping for iMac updates today ---

Although the US store is down, other international stores are still up (I checked UK and Japan).

I think they normally all go down at the same time for major product updates - they certainly did last week for the MB/MBP updtes.

I guess this is just routine overnight maintenance to the store at the moment. Hopefully the updates will come later in the day.

I think so, as the US store went down hours ahead of the time it's usually closed for updates. I hope we'll see also the international stores going down in two or three hours :)

I hope so much for a big update. processor, GPU, screen, ports, HDD.. The hole works. give us an update to DIE FOR.

Too many refurbs...

I'm sticking by my assertion that we won't see an update while there are a ton of iMacs in the refurb section. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe Apple has moved to Thursday launches and announcements for the month of March, instead of Tuesdays. :-\

I don't think so.

I really hope for a March update because i have to order until 26th of March, latest. Two more tuesdays till then...

I am waiting for updates before buying a new imac, MBP or MB. I would love to get the improved chipset sooner rather than later.:)

Well... 2 of those 3 have already been updated. I guess you'd be able to predict what the iMac update will bring based upon the MB & MBP updates.

Well its official, my wait for my first mac is finally over.
Ive been on standby for almost 6 months now pondering about becoming a switcher and actually had my mind set on the next imac refresh when an opportunity presented itself that i just couldn't pass and i ended up getting a lower-end current generation 20" imac for free! The machine is incredible!

Anyway, i know this isn't the post so im sorry for any inconvience . Goodluck to all of you still patiently waiting for the next update, im sure it'll be worth the wait when it does comeout (and the sooner the better).

me too, I given up! decided to buy a 2.8 extreme refurb. Goodluck to everyone still waiting!

Bah.. I am still waiting ; )
I almost got a macbook 4 months ago, but I ended up with a dell <actually - almost no buyer's remorse here, it's a solid machine and it came with 3 year warranty>. This time around, however, it's an iMac or nothing ; ) I've learned to hate these tuesdays...

Guess I'll have to wait another week (or two, or three, or four). Glad I don't NEED it. :D

I just hope they won't wait till June. I have a working desktop, but really wouldn't mind something new/good-looking/quiet/not 5 years old.

I think I'm just going to get a 2.4 24" one. Getting bored waiting and need it - can't see how much difference a tiny speed bump would make, plus who knows what the graphics card change will be.

I'm not sure much will be gained, either, especially considering the prices they've been selling "reconditioned" ones for. (There can't be that many reconditioned ones available; they must be mostly closeouts. The sale has been going on for weeks.)

My question: Has anyone had hands on experience with both the 2.4 and 2.8? On paper, the 2.4 seems like a much better value. I crave a 2.8  but can't rationalize it. Haven't found much in the way of benchmark comparisons, either.

My give up date is next Tues. I am not going to be burnt by Apples price drops again though I lost ALOT of money with the new MBP updates so if theres no update next week I will have to make my purchase but it will be another PC and XP (I hate vista which is why I wanted to replace my current PC with an iMac but if I buy XP separately it will be better) I just dont want to throw more money apples way and find out I could have saved $1000 3 weeks later but I need another computer very soon.

UK store re refurbs

An update is immanent. Unlike the US store the UK Apple store has MBP's but little else. No iMac's. Not a one. I suspect the US-only limitation is to save on delivery costs to the rest of the world.
A couple of UK etailers is saw today (trying to find an iBook G3 power adaptor - my better half ran her chair over it - if anyone has one...) were doing deals on iMacs £100 (200US d) off.
Obviously clearing stock I agree. How long before stock is sufficiently lowered before we get the update do you think?
Does Apple’s accounts have a listing for stock? I know it won’t list it per product but it’s a clue to how much product Apple has bought and may be in the logistics system. UK firms have to list this, I presume US companies have to do this as well (as international accounting standards are now based on US laws).
I’ve been waiting for a new iMac for nine months – initially I couldn’t afford it nor justify it (Photoshop, Quark, Fetch all run 100% on G4 iBook) now I can afford it. Because of this what’s the view on waiting for more than a speed (?) bump?

My give-up day was today. I ordered the 24-inch refurb for $1,499. There seem to be plenty on the US store site. I already have memory from Crucial, and wireless mouse and AppleCare from Amazon. Saved a bunch of bucks all around. This is my first foray into Mac world. I'll use it primarily for processing photos. The Dell laptops are having a hard time keeping up.

Very much excited and looking forward to the new toy.

Joe

I really dont understand people like this. ( if "X"Mac doesnt come out by "Y"Date I will have to go buy a PC....

MOST mac updates are small speed bumps. Especially this iMac update since they just introduced the new Aluminum case. We know it will have the new Penryn chip in it. Maybe a new graphics card... probably the same HD for the base systems. Maybe 2GB ram for the base system.

WHat I'm getting at is the the performance wont be that different and I'll bet it isnt noticeable to a user. A current iMac is a great machine.
