Wait Three More Weeks

The common wisdom (and I confess I don't follow it closely to know) is that Apple makes major introductions on Tuesday.

In three weeks, the date will be May 6, 2008 - 10 years to the day that the original iMac was introduced.

(The reason I know this is that it's my birthday - a Google search did confirm it, though.)

I think Apple will celebrate the 10th anniversary with a new iMac. Maybe not as revolutionary, but it's just too nice a date to pass up.

Wasn't the original imac released on august 15?

this should be a front page rumor your really onto something here.

Have you ever heard the sound of operating iMac? Under heavy load they are quieter than or the same as idling MacBooks...

Exactly. Not compelling reason to wait for Peryn on iMacs. GPU, on the other hand, is dismal in the current iMac lineup. I'm waiting on the next gen iMac for the GPU update (assuming there is one).

Yeah the first iMac was August 15, I dunno with regard to the announcement of the iMac but it was released, to my knowledge, in August.

If anyone has a line on the potential for a GPU update or card swap (or an idea of what they'd jump to, I'd kill for a 512 card) I'd be very appreciative.

You'd think with the new seeds of 10.5.3 someone would have found something relating to a new GPU if the iMac update is due soon with a new GPU. :apple:

Its fixed on the motherboard, so anyone who has an alu iMac is stuck with the less than stellar 2600Pro.

I sincerely hope that Steve drops something new on us in that regard. The 2.8 (or the new top model) should have a much better card.

I dont want to know how hot the alu imac of the next generation will get with a gforce inside !!!

Have you written a letter to Apple? Or sent an email? Whining in some message forum on the Internet isn't actually communicating directly with the source, now is it?

I used to work at Apple Retail (web ninjas fire away) and would routinely ask people (the higher ups who came to visit) why the iMac was so oddly configured. I never got a good answer. Having been on the inside and having seen the end of the chain, I've gotta say, Cupertino seems to have a "screw-you-because-our-designers-went-to-school-and-you-did-not!!!" attitude. The only computer you really get customization on is a BTO Mac Pro, and rightly so since it is firmly in the "Pro" part of design spectrum.

I just feel the iMac needs to be a bridge from the Mac Mini on the low end and on the high-end it needs to brush up against the Mac Pro more closely.

With an increase in market share and the the cloud effect from the iPhone, Apple really ought to look into letting people have more control over the product they receive.

But that's just one man's opinion.

Sucks

This must be one of the lousiest topics floating around the web. Together with all the other new mini speculation topics on other forums.

NOTHING HAPPENS FOR 6 WEEKS NOW.......

Apple is a lousy 3d graphic producer (No SLI, No Game Mac) and the X3100 is old dated rubbish that can't even play HD.

That is NOT innovative, but just being cheap to use the same outdated graphics chip for your products.

S-video out/in anyone?? Extra monitor plug in for iMac (hdmi)?? Use Imac monitor as screen only (for PS3 for example?) Use two I macs as 1 computer and share the screen??

No.. Apple has dissapointed me lately with their integrated crap and using laptopcomponents for mac mini is just pushing the price up.

Apple is overpriced for the hardware you get. Build yourself a hackintosh and get a real powerhorse with SLI if needed. Maybe Apple should use the skulltrail motherboard 5400DX for their future Mac Pro. The only downfall on that is that it uses now outdated memory since DDR3 is coming.

Apple can learn something. If they use PC hardware or build phones, use the good stuff please (and non laptop components. or outdated technology)

OW and releasing an iphone with 3g and no GPS, while HDSPA is the standard a year ago is also a cheap marketing stunt to let buyers upgrade.

Give me a 160gig Ipod with GPS and HDSPA and then we're talking.

And port OS X to the PC. Thats the only thing I do like at the moment.

Urgh... its actually hard not to feed the troll... but I will hold.

Done Waiting

After waiting since January for an iMac update (graphics card issues, the same as most of you it seems) I have given up.

My Macbook Pro arrived in the mail today, and it is glorious. All of you Apple stockholders should be happy, as I just spent quite a bit more on a new computer than I was planning to (I drew the line at the ACD though, that is just ridiculously priced). :D

True... But

Unless you are looking for a consumer display, is priced at just about the same as all the other professional displays on the market.

Now the plastic consumer Dells and Samsungs... that's a different story.

Very true... but I don't do serious photo or video work or anything, so plastic consumer was all I need. Got my 22 inch Viewsonic monitor with built in iPod dock from Sam's Club for $250.

Since any Apple event, WWDC or not nowadays, is all about the iPhone, I'd assume that an iMac dump will have to take place the week before if they're not going to do it sooner.

Yes there is a problem with my logic  I've resigned myself to waiting until WWDC or after :( I just don't know anymore.

Refurb Mac Hardware 30 day wait!

I was looking at ordering a reburb. 24" iMac this evening. (4/19)
The website indicates that there is now an estimate 30 day wait before this item is shipped. Most refurbs hardware now has this extensive waiting period... A few days ago it was 1-2 days for the same item.. hmmm?!:confused:

The new mobile CPUs for Montevina platforms are not due until next month, so I really expect Apple to wait until around WWDC before they roll out the new iMacs, Mac Minis, and MacBooks (Pros).

WTH? I just noticed that too.. almost every model (except MacBook Air), refurb or not, shows a "30 business days" shipping time.? What could this mean? Temporary? New models?

Also, even if WWDC is all about developers and stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if the iMac, Mac mini, MacBook and MacBook Pro got all updated.. What do you think? A redesign for the notebooks and Specs boost for the desktops? It'd be about time!

What site are you seeing that on? When I hit the USA site and go for a refurb iMac 24" it gives delivery date of about a week.
