My wok is cast iron. Heavy MoFo and some work to clean but love cooking with it when I have people over. Too big to cook eggs unless I am preparing an omelette for a crowd which would get me in trouble currently. :p It actually makes terrific plov (Central Asian pilaf).

I think the idea of using egg whites in some instances is not bad at all, pure protein and my conscience is clean in that I get eggs delivered by a local cooperative of farmers who produce free range.

Edit: this thread needs a title change - just delete one word. :D

Eggs; fried, scrambled, poached, hard boiled, omelettes, love 'em all, especially when you get some of those tender, under developed beaks and chicken fingers. LOL. reminds me of my dad, when i was a kid he would crack a raw egg in to his glass, pour beer in to about a 1/4 of the glass and guzzle it all down. when i got old enough to drink he fixed one for both of us, and as i poured the egg/beer in to my mouth the egg broke and the yoke started to run down my throat and i had to chuck it all back up. never tried that one again. all i have read is that raw eggs are not good for you, but never bothered my dad. same with raw hamburger, he use to make a raw hamburger patty, cut a huge slice of onion, slap it between two pieces of bread and eat it. on a side note: he would usually do these two things before a night of heavy drinking. LOL

Aye. There is a huge difference between eggs and balut. Eggs are unfertilized, baluts are fertilized. You can incubate an egg for ever and nothing will hatch from it.

That said, baluts are a delicacy. Like all delicacy, it's an acquired taste. In other words, yuck🤮 when you first eat it, but eat enough you'll start liking it. I ate caviar once. Never again. Acquired taste indeed. It tasted like salty jelly to me.🤮

I like duck balut.😋 Of course I didn't like it at first, but since my wife liked it so much, I soldiered on until I started liking it too. Fear Factor, bring that it on. I'll win any gross out eating competition they can throw at me, as long as no caviar is involved.😅
I can eat caviar on toast, but it’s not something I crave. Agree, acquired taste.

Do you have a source for that? It is an animal product, or is this humor? :)

If you think about it they are not a living flesh are they? I will post the link am sure i read it somewhere. Many vegetarian eat eggs as well.

I had a type of sushi called a "shrimp boat" a splayed cooked shrimp with some rice and a raw quail egg cracked on top. I would probably eat it again.

Maybe that was an egg-celerant. ;)

Vegan is not vegetarian.

No, but vegetarians do. Milk and eggs are considered vegetarian by Vegetarians but not by Vegans.
I’d think if you are avoiding animal products by eating plants, you would avoid animal products. I guess some of this vegan vs vegetarian boils down to an ethos based of not killing animals to eat, but you can still drink their milk or eat their unborn offspring. ;) For myself, this is just an education exercise as to how to apply the label correctly.

Don’t they stick?
Nope. Just condition the pan and you’re good. Worst case scenario just use a steel scrubber and the pan is good within a minute.
you can also add some cooking spray just before putting your eggs in. What you really have to be careful with is the temperature, if the pan is too cold or too hot, the eggs will likely stick.

Cast iron is incredible for virtually anything.
Not great on a glass cooktop. I have one and need to be careful with my cast iron pot that ways something like 10 pounds. I like ceramic or non-stick for cooking eggs ... because I am lazy.
