Nah, it wasn't that. People just didn't want a smaller phone.
If you add up the sales for iPhone 12m, iPhone 13m and iPhone SE 2&3 then you’ll see that they’ve sold quite a lot of millions of “smaller phones” over the last few years.

The demand is there even if it isn’t everyone’s favourite.

But I suspect that the margins are not (making tech smaller is expensive) and that’s why it’s missing features and not being promoted, so it doesn’t sell better than a higher margin phone.

I'm betting the 13 mini will be the new SE and the SE won't be made anymore. Then after a year or so, the 14 mini will come out … and it will eventually replace the 13 mini.

I like the mini because it fits nicely in my pockets.

Yet the ratio of smaller phones to bigger phones says the market wants bigger, not smaller. Hence, bye-bye mini.

It seems to me iPhones command a large enough (and profitable enough) share of the market for even a "niche" model like the Mini to be worth offering.

But then again, I'm not running a trillion-dollar company. I guess they bring a different logic to these decisions.

The logic behind this is that, if it sells in a disproportionately low ratio to the other offerings, then it's no longer viable to invest R&D and manufacturing capacity.

I never got the mini with the intention of keeping it very long. I’ve been waiting for a notchless phone, so I had already planned to go 14 pro, and hold on to the mini for my granddaughter.

However, I am REALLY liking it. When I go back to holding a 13 or 13 pro, it feels so huge. I’m really gonna have to think it through once I actually see the new phones.

If the non-pro line was gonna lose the notch, that would make it easier - I could do the regular 14 and not gain so much in weight - but my only reason for upgrading will be losing the notch IF it is really a noticeable improvement.

I have an iPad mini, iPhone SE, and MacBook Pro. I like the size difference between the iPad mini and the SE. I might upgrade to the 13 mini because I like Pink and the extra pixels.

To be honest I find it really hard to understand why anyone would update their phone every year.

For me, it’s always been because of the resale value. Trading up each year cost me around $300 once I sold the current model. The key is to have a second phone to use and sell your main phone before the new one is released - ie while it is still the latest model. This maximises the $$ you can achieve for it.

However, with the 13 mini not being replaced this year with a similar sized model, that puts to bed any ideas of upgrading annually from here on for me.

I love the 13 Mini but I'm ready to move on for several reasons. I'm probably going to get that cheaper 6.7" iPhone because it will give me the larger screen but also weigh less than the Max due to the aluminum.

My hope is that Apple will simply keep the Mini in the lineup and update it every 2-3 years. The problem with the Mini is that it was too close in price to the 6.1" iPhone while only offering one thing over the others. (The size.)

I am debating on trading my regular 12 in for a 13 mini. I’ve been wanting to go smaller, and have zero interest in the 14. I’ll probably wait until after the 14 comes out, due to the price drop that will likely come with it!

Looking for iPhone 13 Mini sale. Don’t want to pay full price. Curious what will happen if the 14 mini doesn’t happen.
I think that they’ll drop the price of the 13 Mini by $100. They still make the 12 Mini, as of now, so I’m sure that the 13 Mini won’t be discontinued. I may hold onto my 12 until Black Friday, in case that there are any deals then.

Yes, I think you are correct. The 12 Mini will probably drop off and the 13 Mini will continue on. I don’t think there will be a 14 Mini though. Think you’re also right about the $100 price drop.

for most the US carriers/retailers, you've been able to trade in and update for basically no cost

I'm not against a Pro, I've been very tempted to go for the 13 Pro but resisted.

With a 14 mini 99% not happening, decided I'm going to keep the 13 mini another year (unless Apple surprise us).

Then, in a year I'll probably go for the 15 Pro due to USB-C.

If Apple however decide to release another mini-sized device e.g. an SE4 with the mini form factor/Face ID then I'd consider that too.

How is the size compared to the 6S? I know the physical dimensions but just curious. Apple replaced my old 6S because it got lose by UPS apparently. So I've been using it while i travel -- I kinda miss the small size of the older phones. (Currently have a 12 pro)

The 13 mini is a bit smaller than the 6S, see here: https://www.phonearena.com/phones/size/Apple-iPhone-6s,Apple-iPhone-13-mini/phones/9501,11637

The width of the display is only a tiny bit smaller though, less than a millimeter difference.
