Ok, so I just talked to the tech guys at the store Apple Support told me to contact and they said that the instructions they've got in this case is for me to take the MBP in when I know the bug is triggered and they'll do a specific test to each hardware component, send the report to Apple and they'll tell them if and which component must be replaced. So, now I just need to manage to trigger the bug and take the MBP in. If I'm able to trigger it lol. It is unbelievable that, now that I want it to misbehave, it won't

With this response from Apple, one would once again be pushed towards a hardware issue, sometimes i really wish Apple would just be a little more forthcoming, if it`s hardware issue a recall, if it`s firmware issue an update. The "cloak and dagger" approach does nothing more than infuriate customers, certainly if my Retina had this issue i would be incensed, not with the issue at hand more the way it`s not being dealt with, and the lack of feedback from Apple...

turn MAC into sleep mode for 12-18 hours

This update resolves a rare issue where users may experience slow frame rates when playing graphics-intensive games on the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It also includes bug fixes for Power Nap, wake from sleep and fan control.

5 months for fixing

before we jump up and down in joy, are we certain this addresses temperature based thermal throttling that happens around 74-78C? Did they simply raise the cap, or did they completely remove it? If it's gone, then this update alone would allow for some massive OC'ing headroom O_O.

My GPU still gets to 97°C after only 5 minutes of bootcamp gaming and then the gpu throttles from 900 to 450mhz and after 10minutes it goes to 250mhz.
Guess i have a hardware issue? (the new EFI didn't fix this)

I'm thinking 97C for the GPU is really really hot. Like, close to damaging hardware hot.

I would limit turbo if I were you (throttlestop to 2.4-2.7ghz).

10.8.3 available now ;)
Then it's Christmas, Birthday, Thanks Giving and all the holidays you may find! Let's see how 10.8.3 does :)

i have macbook pro mid 2012 non retina, the update isnt for me, but i have the same problem like retina. what i do?
Sorry, dude. Can't help you. This is my first MBP (only owned iMacs before) and this one gave me enough of a headache already so I'm not the best person to help you. Try maybe opening a thread explaining the issue.

SMC Update, Windows 8 Support and 10.8.3!

Okay... I'm getting very solid framerates now, in everything.

And I could swear my 2011 MBP would feel slower than my rMBP.

I think Apple did more than just fix that SMC bug. They made it so that OSX would work a lot better as well.

Not sure if placebo or fact, but yeah I've been experiencing an overall performance gain as well, not gonna complain :D

Same here! Everything, in both Mac OS X and Windows 7 feels a lot faster since the update and for whatever reason my temps are lower too and the fans thus keep quiet for a longer time :D No performance drops either here!

I would have guessed that you have the same problem as I did. In my case it was a problem with the heatsink. If apple says no, i would let them check again. Because in my case they had to look at it 3 times over to find the fault. Really annoing but at least they found it, and fixed it. My rmbp has never missed a beap sins that

YEAH APPLE!
I have been waiting for half-yeah for this update!

Thanks mr. Cook, i like you!

Update:

Throttling is not fixed. Still throttles to 1.2 ghz on high load.

No, i dont like you.

I just got the time to run some stress tests and monitoring.

Running Unigine's new Valley benchmark, I get around 18-20fps at 2048 x 1280 resolution (DX11, High settings) and temperature never exceeded 80C.

That's with the GPU overclocked at 1000MHz (1GHz) and Memory at 3200MHz (3.2GHz) effective.

Looks to me like whatever they did to the firmware has made cooling a lot more efficient to me.

From my side, the "Low-fps-Bug" is fixed with last night's SMC update.
I reverted the hibernate mode to the mentioned original settings, tried all combinations to reproduce the former bug but - everything's fine.
In addition, Apple replace my old LG display to a Samsung one with no more image retention. Thank you, Apple!

I read on notebookcheck.net and the review of this computer that throtting happens on this computer due to a weak powersupply. The computer want to have around 87watts or more and the power supply can only give up to 85watts at maximum. So thats a thing we might not get away from. :/
