Chill people. It's not like its reports of the new iPhones catching fire or exploding.
Too late in the day for hardware changes.
It's all software issues and Apple's obsession with perfection.
XCode beta2 keeps falling on it's ass every hour for me. I feel sorry for the Apple guys trying to make the deadlines with Xcode that unstable.

After 4 years of incremental upgrades I really didn't expect Apple to pull much out of a hat. They lagged on wireless charging because they didn't need to. They lagged on facial recognition because they didn't need it. Same with many of their products. They sell you the bare minimum they can to extract the most amount of money.

Now that the hype is real, of course they're panicking. The 10th anniversary edition of Steve Job's greatest innovation is in the hands of bean counters. And they apparently want $1000 minimum for the "experience" of owning this thing. If it's not great, it's a flop and they know it.

Pretty cynical and one-sided comments. They lagged on "wireless" charging and facial recognition because neither is at all useful. "Wireless" charging isn't wireless, it shortens the life of the battery by producing excess heat, and you can't use your phone while its charging. Face recognition doesn't work unless you're looking at your phone and can be easily fooled by a photograph.

Conversely, Apple led with Siri, Touch ID, Apple Pay, the Taptic Engine, 3D Touch, and such small things as the App Store and, you know, the entire modern smartphone.

And in true Apple fashion they'll have the chutzpah to charge a premium price for shipping what amounts to a beta product full of bugs and missing/incomplete features

And in true MacRumors fashion here a poster has the chutzpah to put down and bash a product which has not been released yet, for which the actual pricing has NOT been released, nor has it shipped and/or exact details are known.

"reports fast company"?

fast company previously reported:
- "Some media reports have suggested that Apple will include a set of Lightning-connected EarPod earphones in the box with the iPhone 7. It’s more likely, our source says, that Apple will sell a more expensive pair of noise-canceling,"
- "iPhone 7...will be noticeably thinner, will very likely support wireless charging and be waterproof, a source with knowledge of the company’s plans tells Fast Company."

all wrong.

I'm confused...most of those reports were correct. Apple did include Lightning EarPods with the 7, and the phone was waterproof. Even the part about "more expensive pair of noise-canceling" headphones was partially correct, because they released AirPods.

So let's get this straight.
With only 2 months until the keynote, these analysts would like us to believe that every single feature people are expecting is actually unfinished and may not make it in time?
So far we've heard of problems with TouchID being integrated into the screen, wireless charging being delayed, problems with the OLED displays and now even problems with the 3D sensors on the front which are supposed to be used to replace TouchID!

So if we are to believe these analysts, then the iPhone 8 will ship without OLED panels, without wireless charging, no TouchID and without even the replacement to TouchID which might be called FaceID, meaning the iPhone 8 would be like the iPhone 5 and prior which required typing your passcode every time to unlock it...
Let's repeat that last part.
These analysts are "reporting" that there are issues with both TouchID and its replacement, FaceID...
So how exactly do they expect Apple Pay to work? And they really think Apple would make us go back to typing our passcode every time?

So if iPhone 8 is actually going to ship without every single feature we're expecting, then what is the point of releasing it?

I couldn't care less about these two features i won't use. Just want an OLED screen. Take the 7 Plus, add an OLED screen. Consider it bought. Why's this so hard? lol

It's called past history. Apple has a history of releasing beta products and half-baked software.

OK, maybe I'm not seeing it , but for Apple to release/announce the new phone, in maybe, in 8 or 9 weeks, this product is already in production. Any issues would have been worked out months ago for then to gear up the production line for a new model. I wouldn't think that any of the Apple suppliers could just change over in a few weeks.
When did Apple ever 'panic'? And now it's TC's Apple. It is what it is and what we get..Glad I bought an SE.

As always, there will be praise for the new iPhone Edition Special I'm Expensive, and others will have nothing but disdain.
"It doesn't have this"
"It doesn't have that"
"They should have done this"

So for those expecting the Holy Grail.....Not yet! Apple is going to do what it has been doing under TC...Overhype and underdeliver.

At least iOS has some promise....

(stepping down from soapbox)

Honestly, these reports are silly. If the issue is software, then they’ll release it when it’s ready, just like Portait mode. Relax people, everyone who works to deliver complex products regularly are pretty much always in some sort of panic. If it was easy everyone would do it.

That's why I like working in R&D on stuff that won't hit markets for years, and yes it's very complex stuff. Yes we have board of directors goals that are quarterly and annual, but they're realistic goals that don't cause you to work 12 hours a day. It's just simply not sustainable when you're in it for the long haul. I don't envy these yearly product release engineers.

can't get a feature that's been out for a decade to work?

nice
Firstly, I don't really believe this report, I do somewhat believe Gruber's claim that the wireless charging may not come until 11.1, though. Why? Because Apple is not using inductive charging. Apple is using RF-based charging from Energous/Dialog Semi. This is brand new and the iPhone will be the only smartphone ever introduced with it, and one of the first devices on the market with the RF-based charging, period.

HomePod will be the short-range charging device which will launch alongside iOS 11.2.

Unless Apple is planning on doing some real wireless charging (IE, receives a charge even when it's several feet from the power source), I find this story hard to believe.

Besides the competing phones that have been doing this for nearly a decade, Apple's own Apple Watch has been able to do "wireless charging" for over 2 years now.
Precisely. There is no excusable explanation for ANY software or hardware related inductive wireless charging issues. This is why I am only driven more confidently in my long-time belief that Apple is using RF-based charging and a mat will launch at first, while the HomePod will be a short range charger for 3-5ft charging range.

Tell us what else Apple is doing, since you obviously work for them?

P.S. Apple isn’t using Energous for the iPhone. You know why? Because the tech hasn’t received the necessary safety permits, nor has it passed through regulatory bodies to sell to the public. Nice story though bro.

Those were all things that everyone knew from previous reports last year and things that anyone would have known to be happening...

I love when the Apple faithful alter history. You do realize that Apple Pay came years after Google introduced it via Google Wallet?
You do know that Touch ID was around for years on Android and in the public before Apple put it in an iPhone?
You do realize Siri was an app before Apple bought it and was an offshoot of DARPA and Nuance Comms?
You do know there were app stores before Apple had one? In 1999, DoCoMo introduced it.
You do know that the Haptic (not 'taptic' feedback engine wasn't an apple invention? in fact, it goes all the way back to the 70's with video games. It was used with watches and cell phones as far back as 1995.

Like the entire rest of your post, nothing but pure b.s. Dont try to rewrite history.

Simply state that Apple made the following things popular / common by incorporating them into their phones. AI, virtual payments, 3D touch aka long press, and the app store. That can't be argued with.

Energous has received full FCC approval for advanced near-field RF-based wireless charging, i.e. contact-based charging. There is absolutely nothing stopping Apple from using RF-based contact charging as opposed to inductive contact-based charging in the new iPhones. Nothing.

Energous has NOT yet received FCC approval for mid-field RF-based wireless charging. They are currently pursuing this and have been for many months. They have reported they expect formal approval within the next month or so. The iPhone only needs what Energous has already gotten FCC approval for though, because RF-based contact charging is superior to inductive charging because it is cheaper and doesn't impact internal space because it requires a tiny chip as opposed to a large coil.

The same chip that is capable of the contact charging is also fully compatible for any distance charging when it comes or is approved by the FCC.

These are the facts.

My bad. You are referring to contact charging. Thought you were referring to non-contact based charging.
