I heard they had troubles with the oled too, so they will be releasing the iphone 8 without a screen.
:D:D
Yeah, that would effectuate Tim's commitment to the visually impaired and offer them a level playing field... Equality ! Core values !
It is soo energy efficient and has no impact on the earth's reserves.
This is Apple's contribution to the planet: the device doesn't have any ports and actually shouldn't exist (only on the server side) and on your bill, so they can invest even more on spurious R&D that doesn't get implemented because of software delays and the risk of battery fires.
It allows the battery to be omitted also, in favor of a bigger haptic engine that runs on thermal energy transmitted by your middle finger that continously needs to be arosen.
Mine already is...

can't get a feature that's been out for a decade to work?

nice
3D facial recognition has been out for a decade? Where? Last I heard, Android's systems can be circumvented with photographs.
[doublepost=1499831100][/doublepost]They'd better include Touch ID if this is true. Can you imagine buying a new phone and having to use a passcode, at least for the first few months?

Apple needs to stop trying so hard. Steve is gone so they won't repeat that magic again. Just ship the phone with bezel, slap on the Touch ID 2, a better camera (front and back), and the usual speed improvements and some fresh new colors. People will buy it.

How insightful. Jobs would certainly approve of such laziness, because damn anyone else try something cool if he’s not involved.

I really wish someone would compile a list of rumors from each iPhone launch and see what and what didn't come to fruition.

Is Apple having issues now because they're ramping up production? Are they leaking these stories on purpose?

Idk what's going on, but this launch will be very interesting...
According to the rumors we should have already had all of the new features in the iPhone 8 five years ago.

As the prospective September launch date of the iPhone 8 fast approaches, designers and engineers at Apple are said to be working "feverishly" to fix software problems in the device that could lead to production delays, reports Fast Company.

Citing a source "knowledge of the situation," the site says there's a "sense of panic" in the air because should the problems not be resolved, the device might ship without major features enabled.

One feature that might be delayed is wireless charging. Apple is said to be planning to implement inductive wireless charging in the iPhone 8, but rumors suggest it will be enabled through a standalone charger purchased separately. As previously shared by Apple blogger John Gruber, Apple may not ship the inductive wireless charging accessory until later in the year alongside an iOS 11.1 update.

While Gruber didn't offer an explanation, Fast Company says software issues, not components, are the problem. If the software isn't ready, wireless charging could be unavailable when the phone first begins shipping.

Apple is also said to be struggling with the 3D sensor expected to be built into the front-facing camera, which is rumored to enable a facial scanning system that could replace Touch ID.On the subject of Touch ID, Fast Company's source believes Apple could still be working to add it under the display. Yesterday, a report from KeyBanc Capital Markets suggested Apple was continuing to struggle to put the fingerprint sensor under the glass of the device, and that the company had "just a couple of weeks" to solve the problem.

Though this sounds unlikely because new device designs are often finalized months ahead of production, Fast Company's source calls the report "plausible" and says "in all likelihood, the fingerprint sensor will be embedded under the display." The source also says iPhone features "can remain fluid until deep in the summer" ahead of an iPhone launch.

With multiple reputable sources (Bloomberg and KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo) reporting Apple has adopted a superior facial recognition system to replace Touch ID, it's not clear how accurate Fast Company's information is, but given the number of conflicting rumors we've heard over the course of the iPhone 8's development, it's still difficult to predict exactly what we're going to see when the device debuts in September.

We've previously heard of problems with the display, the 3D sensor, and Touch ID, all of which have led to multiple rumors pointing towards serious supply issues. The iPhone 8, which will be sold alongside an "iPhone 7s" and an "iPhone 7s Plus," may not be widely available until late in 2017 or early in 2018 due to a later production ramp-up schedule, according to the latest rumor.

Funny, I had lunch at 1IL yesterday and no one seemed panicked.

That is very legit analysis. If true, I will be buying one to go with my pre-order iPhone 8. True wireless charging is the future and I’m looking forward to it. Tesla is spinning in his grave right now, pissed that his ideas have taken this long to get implemented fully.
The Energous CEO just said they expect FCC approval of the mid-range soon, of course he would obviously say that, but hopefully it's true. He also said "at least one customer product enabled with a Mid Field transmitter to ship before the end of the year as well". My vision is that is the HomePod potentially.

The great thing about the Energous tech is that the receiver chip is just a tiny chip integrated into the power management chips already in smartphones. This chip is capable of contact RF clear to 15ft distance charging. So my thinking has been that the iPhone either comes with or has a relatively cheap mat charger for the vast majority of customers and then the mid-range has to be more expensive and it's built into the HomePod for the customers that could afford that as well or desired it. Then next year or the year after, a rather larger HomePod type device would be sold for the far-range 15ft charging, if/when Energous gets regulatory approvals for that, which they've said should be straight-forward if the mid-range is approved. You could imagine a name for this could be just simply 'Apple Home' or ' Home' whereas the 'HomePod' represents the little pods to the main hub of the Home?

I'll also note that Dialog Semi just invested another 15 million into Energous. At the very least Dialog (of which their revenue is about 80% from Apple) has done due diligence on the potentiality for the tech to go somewhere.

Even if Apple isn't the tier-one partner Energous has been working with, I hope Samsung or LG is and brings something revolutionary out.

What a load of crap. The iPhone 8 (or whatever they call it) is almost certainly finished and about to go into production if it hasn't already. Apple doesn't "panic", they determine very early on in the development process if a certain technology is ready for production, and if it's not ready they wait until next year. Apple struggling to ready a device for production this late in the game is absolutely unfathomable. If it's actually not ready for production, then they probably intend on a Spring 2018 release.

Apple and panic...two words you don't see in the same sentence very often. Hopefully, they get the issues resolved. If they don't it would do Apple some good to eat some humble pie. They've been getting kinda snobbby lately.

Rather than panic and have a Samsung exploding phone moment. Maybe it's best to extend the deadline for release.

Agreed. If true, and that's a big if, all due to the reduction of bezels. Am I the only person in the world that is not bothered about bezels? They have a use. Without them your fingers obscure some of the screen??? I just don't get it.
