Shameful. Absolutely shameful.

You're talking about the rumor, right? The typical doom and gloom reports that come out before EVERY iPhone launch? The media has no shame when it comes to garnering as many clicks as possible leading up to the year's biggest product launch.

Not just the media, but analysts are always trying to make a name for themselves by doing the same. And why not? People have very short memories and they'll fall for the same BS next year, and the year after that, and the year after that...

That's what happened when Tim all he cares is media attention. He seems pretty busy going around promoting his own agenda instead of working along with his people. And yeah that expensive lunch too seems to be the biggest achievement by Cook and Cue. Well at least some of the money goes to a charity. Making our world full of rainbows and butterflies that's exactly what we're getting soon. Thank you Tim you're the best!

This is getting ridiculous. As if Apple wouldn't have properly tested all this stuff after its biggest redesign in 3 years.

I can't say I recall the words "panic" being used in rumors for past releases, but maybe I'm wrong. This doesn't sound good, but it ain't over 'till the fat lady (or the wiry thin man, Tim Cook) sings. I'll reserve judgment until unveiling.

Yeah, staying FAR away from this iPhone generation. FAR, FAR away. Maybe I can have a drink with Shrek or something while I'm there.

Seriously, Apple is trying too hard. They should have stuck with a conservative iPhone 7S release while they worked out these details. The iPhone doesn't need such a major facelift. The current design is iconic.

There is no reason for a delay caused by hardware or software if it is the same wireless contact-based charging that already exists in other phones. This is distance wireless charging at ten feet away. That is what they are working on and that will be a game changer.

The problem from what I have been told by a childhood friend who works in HR at Apple, is that top developers do not want to work at Apple, they would rather work at Google, Netflix, and other companies were they can get credit for their work, work on big public projects and more. Apple just can't recruit like they once did and they don't have the kind of talent coding that they really need. Unfortunately, the secret nature of Apple is what is hurting them in the market place for top talent. Again, this is what I heard..does not mean it's factual.

I bet Apple is taking an open source QI and trying to make it proprietary so it only works with their chargers...which is a shame and very M$SFT if you know what I mean.

These rumours that spell out the death of Apple are one thing, but the people who eat it up is a whole different level.

Wait and see what they announce in September or when ever the event will be. If you have to go another year before upgrading, it shouldn't be that much of a life event. Life is too short to get worked up over rumours.

My bad. You are referring to contact charging. Thought you were referring to non-contact based charging.
I'm referring to both, because it's my belief—or hope—that the HomePod is intended to be the first short-range RF charging device. 2-5ft charging range. Now, even if that isn't so, I still would much prefer Apple use RF-based contact charging than inductive charging because inductive charging has no where to go. There is no possible distance future there. Whereas RF-based has a chance. If Energous gets FCC approval soon (for the mid-range), I'll be highly confident Apple is using it, and it's in the HomePod.

Look, the HomePod has a launch in December, the very end of the year, and it's been worked on for multiple years. It's a speaker.... why in the world would it take Apple multiple years and have to wait 6 months after announcement to release a speaker? It seems absurd. Moreover, it only launches in 3 countries! The Apple Watch launched in 9 countries, and AirPods launched in more than 100 countries/territories. The HomePod only launches in Australia, the U.K., and the US. Why is a speaker that hard to manufacture? I believe it's a result of them awaiting FCC approval of Energous tech.

Tell us what else Apple is doing, since you obviously work for them?

P.S. Apple isn’t using Energous for the iPhone. You know why? Because the tech hasn’t received the necessary safety permits, nor has it passed through regulatory bodies to sell to the public. Nice story though bro.

So when the FCC approves it will you change your mind?

if apple cannot handle a tech that others have done for years they do have real issues

The problem is that they want it done well.

I hope this news isn't true and that they aren't working the software engineers too hard.

Personally I hate the current phone design/style and I'd love a major facelift. I half want to trade my 6S for an SE because I can't get over how that stupid camera bump makes my phone rock and chatter back and forth when I type on it on a flat surface. And those tacky antenna lines... those stick out like a sore thumb in my eye (still). If they're gonna start re-warming existing designs, please make something that's more like the 4/4S...

I really do hope these reports are wrong because my 6S is starting to feel long in the tooth. Ready for an upgrade, don't want it to be a sloppy one.

Wireless charging could be something different as we expect.
Hw in the iphone itself could be the same as current wireless tech.
But the stands/matts for wireless charging could be complety wireless, and is unique compared to his competitors.

True but the fun of this site is to come here and get worked up over rumors. Freaking out over horrible rumors is my hobby. :D

I'm not sure what to make of these rumors. They have alarmingly consistent and persistent themes. Normally I would not have given any of them much credence but that horribly awkward introduction of the iPhone 7 Plus with the incomplete photo software last year makes me wonder. That was really embarrassing that they would release this cool dual lens camera and take so long afterward to have the software finalized for it.

That was such an awkward embarrassing presentation all around and the fact they survived it without a hint of shame and in fact carried it on the back of Phil's arrogance concerns me.

Despite trying to block it out, I vaguely recall they trotted out the phones with the fugly camera bumps we all swore they would never make and announced the missing headphone jack by saying sorry, no room, courage! And then that weird depressing performance by Sia where everyone died weeping was like the cherry pit on top of the moldy cake.

No, really did I fall asleep and have a nightmare or was that the actual iPhone 7 debut?

So yeah, I'm starting to get a little twitchy and am glad my courageous iPhone 7 Plus did finally get its software sorted and came with a dongle for my favorite headphones and doesn't need to be replaced. I love my fugly phone and the camera works awesomely so all's well that ends well...I guess. So maybe there's hope for the iPhone 8 even if the rumors turn out to be true and we are subjected to another horrible keynote.

That is very legit analysis. If true, I will be buying one to go with my pre-order iPhone 8. True wireless charging is the future and I’m looking forward to it. Tesla is spinning in his grave right now, pissed that his ideas have taken this long to get implemented fully.
