More Northern Harrier photos. Seems like its the only bird that lets me snap a photo while the others stay far away for the photographers with a super lens.

Playing with my NEX-3... still trying to decide if it's the right camera for me. Feedback is greatly appreciated

I have the NEX C3 and love it. Don't need the touch screen and video of the 5N so I think it's a much better value saving $150 on those features. Enjoy the camera!

My Grandparents - Christmas 2011 by soulreaver99, on Flickr

Never realized how incredible they both are until recently. My Grandfather especially who's been through WWII, the Chinese Civil War, and the Vietnam War before coming to America. He's 90+ years old, has an iPad, and has beaten every level of Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, and just recently gotten into playing Infinity Blade 2

Browsing this thread has been a source of amazement and inspiration for me... Here is my contribution. This is my 1st posting to this thread.

Taken on Cox Bay, on Vancouver Island, late into twilight last May. It was a 128 second exposure at f/22, and ISO 50. The blue colour is what the camera saw, not something added afterwards.

Cheers

I don't understand why someone keeps going through and marking down virtually every post with -1

If you don't like the photo say what could be improved, but marking it with a -1 just seems a bit cheap and stupid.

I'm aware this post will get minuses just because, but you know, I keep seeing it happen a lot, seems a bit unnecessary.

OK, this is really the first photo that I think looks good. I'm 17, only had my Nikon for about two months, and I've never taken any sort of classes regarding photography.

What do you think? What can be improved? I pretty much know nothing but the basics. :)

I know my picture is crap, but I just thought I'd like to hear what you all have to say. :p

This has happened before and it's why I really don't like the rating system as it is implemented on this forum. There's a complaint thread in one of the private forums open to the Demis. I just vote them back up. Brainless waste of time.

Fair enough, glad to know it's not just me then, yeah it is just a waste of time, would be nice if you could only +1 something, no minuses. Anyway, back to the thread, it's officially tomorrow for me so my submission is above :)

My exact thoughts, I think it should be a thread rule that posts can't be negatively rated.

If you don't like something, either ignore it, or give constructive feedback if the photographer is asking for it.

Thanks! Don't expect too much, I'm just an amateur.

Don't fall into the "I'm only an amateur trap." That word has nothing to do with skill level.... it simply means that you do it strictly for the love of it, and have a paying job doing something else. In other words - you are smart enough to not be trying to make a living making pictures!

I've known "amateurs" who could shoot circles around many many pros, and pros who couldn't shoot a sharp photo if their life depended on it.... they were merely good at marketing themselves.

That is a wonderful photo you've contributed. Personally, I would try cropping the bottom just slightly - just to remove the out of focus bits, or at least most of that bit. That way the photo will read sharp to soft (bottom to top, i.e. near to far). At the moment it reads soft to sharp to soft again... not as clear a message. ... imho, only ....

I like palette, and the story, and the composition. I like the way my eye moves from near figure to the far one, then along the horizon back towards the near figure.
