Just a quick snapshot. Seemed fitting being Super Bowl Sunday and all.

Too bad about the outcome of the game though.

It was pouring rain today so I wasn't able to go outside and this image popped into my mind a few moments ago. Not really that happy with it as I kind of visioned it a bit differently but I'll take it for something that came to me last minute.

Subic Bay, Philippines

Great shot otter, strong colour, silhouette and atmosphere - it has a good feeling about it, top stuff.
I get the urge to crop a small amount of sky out to put more emphasis on that wonderful glowing water, silhouette and strong lower two thirds, but it may be just me :)

Thanks Doylem and Ish for your comments on the earlier pic I posted.

Sorry, I've been AWOL for the last week or so. Just a quick post before bed...will try to get caught up tomorrow. A quick peek shows some great photos posted recently!

I can usually think of an appropriate comment when I see a pic that really catches my attention like this, but I'm lost for words here... yet another stunner.

Great to see you're still kicking :p

Great shot. Berkeley?
From what high place did you shoot this, using only a 100mm?

Anyone still not convinced that "it's all about light" should look no further. You've picked just the right moment (did you get it right first time, or did you shoot at intervals as the light faded?). The kind of pic you could live with on the wall: poster or calendar. Also, you've made me want to go out and shoot pix...

Wowee!

Makes my pic seem bland in comparison ;)

Thanks very much, TheReef. :)

Wherever did you find this crazy ice cave? Amazing!

Yes, Berkeley. There are hills all along the east side of town that offer numerous vantage points of the city and bay. 100mm is plenty long for a composition including the nearby tower, which is fortunate for me because that's the longest focal length I have right now.

I can't think of anything you could say that would be more encouraging; if a photo of mine can make you want to go out and shoot pix, then I should be shooting more myself! :)

Yes, I always shoot at intervals. I've now gotten to where I can pretty well recognize the balance point right when it's happening, but I prefer to be on the safe side; sometimes my camera and my eyes still disagree with each other.

Nice balance in there. A beautiful scene caught at just the right moment. Is that the tripod that replaced your broken one?

That ice cavern is amazing! It's ethereal. Wonderful shot.

One day I'm going to come out on a shoot with the two of you. I could learn loads! :)

Yep, now gallivanting about with the replacement tripod. I expect to hear from Gitzo regarding the broken one by the end of this week.

That shoot with the TheReef and I could present some logistical problems, but the guy with the funny glasses is running some workshops relatively close to you. ;)

Thanks Ish :)
Yep as Phrasikleia said, Doylem's running some workshops - I heard he gives MR DP discounts ;)
I'd love to go on a shoot with you all one day, now imagine that :)

Thanks very much, TheReef. :)

It was quite a place to be, around about here: 43°30'31.63"S 170° 5'55.56"E ;)

Cheap and easy with a nice color pallet, well placed horizon and nice warm feel to it. Great action and tone variations in the clouds. The horizon is just a little off kilter, but only folks like me notice things like that... This would make a nice calendar page.

Might as well add another sunset shot. This was taken from the top of Stone Mountain looking toward downtown Atlanta.

Thanks TheReef! A bit of a crop might be appropriate. Wonderful image of the ice cave also.

My turn. What kind of duck is this?

EXIF Summary: 1/320s f/5.6 ISO100 Sigma 120-400@400mm Hand Held

Dale

I'm gonna have to go with American Wigeon as well. It's the closest duck I can match it up with.

I saw a Varied Thrush this afternoon in my backyard! I thought it was a Robin at first but then he came out of hiding and grabbed some seeds, I tried to setup as quickly as possible but by the time I grabbed my remote shutter release cable he flew away. I waited patiently and he came back within two hours but he stood in a stop were I could only see his right side and tail. He was hiding behind the bottom of a tree near one of the bird feeders I have in my yard. I'll be ready for him tomorrow if he shows up again.

Took this while walking my dog today...

Hand-held HDR. It's alright I guess.
