It would be kinda funny if the full design, internals and all, leaked after Cook said they were doubling down on secrecy.

If this is real all I can say is ehh. I'm not impressed by it, but I don't hate it. One thing that stuck out to me though was how the back is all flush but on the front the screen is raised from the side band. Seems kinda strange to me.
But this isn't a fully assembled phone with all the internals. It's allegedly leaked parts put together. I'm still skeptical that this is really legit, but if it is, the final product will no doubt look a lot better and more polished than this. You can't compare the final product to unfinished leaked parts put together by a Japanese repair shop.

I hope not. That looks hideous!

Simple answer: no.

Buttons are entirely un-Apple, there are seams...

If this is it then I'm getting a 3GS instead. This thing is hideous.

looks like an ugly sony ericsson phone. The design is VERY un apple like, down to the seams and the buttons

going to go on a limb and say. no.

This looks horrendous.

What wouldn't surprise me is if this is a prototype build with the new internals and a really hideous body.

Seams are pretty hideous. Apple made a big point of removing any seams that it could between the 2G and the 3G. This is a major step backwards if it has seams.

That phone looks gross and like something Nokia would make

it's ugly. I know people have said this before but they should just enlarge the phone proportionally. this design is not very sleek... hmm...

we have a design literate here!

i agree with all the quotes, design is pathetic, i blame the people who passed that and media plus youtoobs who made it trendy n popular, this is the time to correct it all, but hey this 500 billion dollar company wants to rest on its laurels let them competition will teach em lesson

Looks great to me. It will be interesting to see how they use the extra screen real estate (I'm thinking they have something up their sleeve).

Just something more like this crappy mock up I did on Photoshop. A touch taller, bit wider but with 4.3" screen (It's measured to fit so would work) with tapered back, design like iPad. Nothing revolutionary but far better than the leaks. I didn't put all the details on or any potential aerial joins (as I'd have no idea of layout they'd choose) and didn't thicken it up enough but you get the idea. If I was doing it properly I'd do a render but this was 15 mins or so...

Overall dimensions wouldn't actually have to increase that much as indicated, ad a couple of mm to the thickness unlike my drawing, the taper would increase the ease with which the larger size could be held and probably be more comfortable in-hand the the 4/4S.

This is what I was hoping. Maybe even thicker if the tech out there wasn't up to spec. basically the iphone 4 with a curved back

Nice looking, screen is disappointment

Now I think this design is real nice and think apple have brought back a bit of a 2g look.

But I will be massively disappointed if the screen aspect ratio changes. It bothers me so much that apple cold ever consider it better than a 3:2. It's not about size it's about usability. A longer screen is not a touch friendly environment for a phone! No one is et enough to touch the top and the bottom of a 4 inch screen with one hand without shifting their grip.

I really really hope so much that it's the exact same size screen as the 4s. By all means make the screen bigger if you want apple but I real object to changing te aspectratio like this!

It's almost a deal breaker and I love iOS so much. I might end up just keeping my current iPhone for the foreseeable future.

Bigger question, why has Apple been able to get away with no redesigning any of their other products and have no one complain?... in recent history what changes has the Macbook Pro, iMac and Mac Pro and iPod touch seen in the last two years...

This thread is exactly why Apple doesn't rely on focus groups to design their stuff.

I really sincerely hope this isn't it. And I don't mean it in the same way that was said when the iPhone 4 design first leaked. That was beautiful.

This? Who the heck wants a taller phone? I want a bigger screen, but I don't want JUST a taller screen.

Such an odd design, why does it need the giant bezels still? Why even bother making glass sections on the back that small? Terrible.

Want a larger screen like the S3 or GNex? guess what, they're both taller (altho slightly wider as well) than the 4S.

This simply CAN NOT be the next phone. The guys working at Apple are arguably at the very top of their game and they must know more about tech and the business world than any of us.

But I think most of us (even the ones saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it") can see that this is the same design as the last two years. Using the design for a third year could really risk Apple's sales and damage their reputation - especially considering it is the iPhone that got them into their dominant position. If we can see this, surely Apple can

Competiton should make Apple innovate. This isn't innovating.

I won't believe this is the design until its unveiled. And if they do unveil a longer iPhone 4, I'm going to place my head in my hands and sigh very heavily.
Not really. The new MacBooks look the same.

Plus, having a new, or slightly updated look of the new iPhone won't be as bad. Nobody wants to feel "out of style" with iPhones being constantly changed, so with just a slight update, it will please both sides.

i think apple should mix up the designing a bit. since the aluminium phase came into play with apple, every year, everything looks the same. i mean sure, it all looks nice, and i think the computers, and even the ipads are fine the way they are... i like the uniform look of them... but i think the might iphone need a bit of a change, especially since is't practically the same look as the iphone 4 and 4s.

i think nowadays with apple, it's less on the how the piece of tech looks, it's more how the equipment operates. which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

i agree.

Something I was just pondering....Assume the band on the side is the same depth....and assuming the rumors of Apple using screen tech with the touch layer built in....then it might be safe to assume that the total depth of the new phone would be the same as the 4/4S if you removed the front and rear glass

Bigger question, why has Apple been able to get away with no redesigning any of their other products and have no one complain?... in recent history what changes has the Macbook Pro, iMac and Mac Pro and iPod touch seen in the last two years...

Bigger answer. A phone is not a laptop.

Tiny screens were good in the day when all you did was txt.

Go read Jobs' biography on your iphone. Let us know what page you get to when you give up, or go blind with eyestrain.

Exactly - Timeless design

Guess everyone here hates Porsche 911s, Aston Martins etc as they havent changed in decades!

This looks really nice, very refined, love the darker antenna band.

Apple have never changed the design of their products in a significant way every year/two years. They keep their designs similar for a long time - see the MBP, and the G5/Mac Pro.

People want change for the sake of it, and they say they are bored and wont buy it - but thats a lie, they will buy it, they will love it.

Apple do small iterations and improvements, they will have spent a huge amount of time designing the iPhone 4 - they will have designed it to the best of their ability - why throw all that work away just for the sake of change?

I could not agree more. In fact I used the 911 example in a different post. Timeless refinement. I think the phone looks great and most likely will feel even better in person. I think this is the new design. Time will tell.

I will probably end up buying this phone. Not because I love the design, but because it will (probably) be 4G LTE.

Though for the first time, I am seriously considering Android. I'm just bored of my iPhone

an average geek buys a computer for span of 5 years, hence design shud be 5 year proof, computers =/= smartphones or ipod touch

Indeed. In real life this will look great given the usual high build quality of iPhones.

But I will be massively disappointed if the screen aspect ratio changes. It bothers me so much that apple cold ever consider it better than a 3:2.

I completely agree but at the same time I think Apple's trying to make the screen bigger without decreasing the pixel density, changing the body size significantly or destroying the compatibility with the existing ecosystem. Keeping the width the same while extending the screen vertically is probably the most straight forward way to achieve that.

This is where Apple (and all) need to decide if they're going for niche refinement or volume.

I can't be bothered to get figures, but I would imagine the BMW 3-series has massively outsold the 911.

If Apple want to keep selling by volume, they need to change and update the design. If they're happy to be niche, then they're going the right way about it.

As an Apple fanboy who has been drinking too much Apple-aide I must say that no matter what Apple releases I will get it. I am available for an upgrade now and can't justify buying an Android when I'm this invested in the Apple ecosystem. With that said, I have had the black iPhone since my first iPhone, the 3GS, so if the next iPhone was just a 4S with better cameras I would get it in white and feel like it's a brand new redesigned phone just because of the color change to white.

Totally agree...and they don't uniformly update their phones to the latest update. Like with Jellybean, why isn't already available on the GS3? Some phones that are a couple months old will never get the update. That's horrible product support. The fragmentation needs to stop for Android to really take over. It will stop though. They're moving towards it fast. That's why Apple really needs to blow people away with the new iPhone.

Thats very truth altough , if you root your phone you can very easily install newer roms like cm10 wich is even more functional than stock.

Nope, you've got it mixed up.
The antenna is still external but the back now connects the antenna bands.
If the back was solid metal it would bridge (or short) the two bands just like your hand did with the iPhone 4.
The plastic inserts are there to break up the back and stop it from bridging the bands.

And to the people expecting something radically different.
Come on!
This is supposedly one of Jobs' last projects.
Jobs, the guy that bought the exact same car in the exact same color every six months for years!
:p

Still not sure why they needed the huge plastic windows then. A very small seem would have probably done the trick. Or some kind of insulation between the band and the back.

The car analogy fails because a particular car isn't made for everyone. Just like the iPhone's size isn't for everyone. Apple has a core audience that likes the current size. The rest of us will leave for bigger phones.
