hmm I wonder if anyone will make like a Snow Leopard style theme for leopard you know for like G4 & G5 computers its like a sort of new transparent black menu for the dock etc settings & stacks. I have the real final snow leopard build from my ADC and performance is epic

That one you can pretty much bet on.

People really seem to be worked up about the packaging. Like someone said, you will install and then there will be no need to talk about the packaging ever again. I know this is a Mac rumors website but sheesh!

Also, most of us will probably be updating from the web anyways and not even bothering with retail discs N' crap. I know I will be.

But...The install DVD has this image too:

Based on this, I call Legit! And I am using the Snow Leopard Wallpaper :D It reminds me of the "Tiger Stripes" available in 10.4, they are FINALLY bringing back the Codename-based Wallpaper!

HA HA lol :D, its only $29 for Snow Leopard

At one of the Apple Store meetings a year ago, a joke was made about addressing rumors with customers, "10.6, code-named Hyena is already in development."

I believe this entertaining (while lame) joke was part of all stores agendas.

Picture a hyena on the box instead, then unquestionably you obsessed fanboys of cover art would switch to Win7.

Am I drunk right now? Yes.
Weapon of choice? Bud Light.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet, but I think I'm agreeing and calling fake. If you look at the OS X Specs Page, scroll down to the 'What's in the Box' section, and you'll see a box. Having said that, it looks identical to the Leopard one...

Edit: OK, lots of people have pointed it out, and now that I think about the icon found in the latest build and the professionalism of the box, I might be convinced.

EXACTLY what I was thinking! No wonder why a lot of the Windows camp think that Apple customers are a bunch of dweebs. A lot of Apple customers get so caught up in silly stuff and they miss the point of having a computer in the first place. I mean, geez, who give a crap about the packaging as long as you get a boost to your system and it lays a robust foundation for future development! Those who do buy this will just install it and throw the disks in a drawer and forget about it. All of the rest will probably just torrent it and never see the packaging anyway.
Don't worry. In The Netherlands, we have a site called tweakers.net: they'll post rumours of packaging of Windows 7, followed by an 'iPhone sucks'-topic.

I don't mind Macrumours living up to its name, this close to the release date of another OSX version.

It's cool to know a new OS X will be out soon...
However, I will have to wait quite a while longer to upgrade.
I need to know first if my Pro-Tools HD 8 and all my plug-ins will be compatible.
I have no doubt that my Logic 9 will be, hopefully... :)

As a professional, compatibility is my biggest concern

I am very happy about the price. I haven't updated my OS since Leopard originally came out. I got pretty bored of it quick, as I am a basic user with an iMac. Hopefully Snow Leopard speeds up some of the basic features of the OS.

I'm calling one design for Upgrade Discs, another design for the official Retail Packaging.

At Apple UpToDate "Upgrade your Mac with Snow Leopard", and these images are purported to be Retail packaging. You do the math.

As a professional, compatibility is my biggest concern

When you pop in the snow leopard disk, prior to installing it will scan the applications already installed on the hard drive and show you what Applications are incompatible & disable them so there are no issues, like there was when Leopard came out with its hanging blue screen.

These pics are possibly production samples for art work. I doubt they are the retail packing.

I also think that there will be different packing for different upgrade:

For example, i get SL with my new mac paid postage of 6 UK pounds, i expect to get a different package then one i would find in my local apple store.

different artwork for family pack etc

I also dont think it is GM master.

The box and artwork would have be produced a while back.

But hey only Apple knows.

The URL for the image reads

images.apple.com/macosx/images/specs_leopardbox20090608.jpg

same seems to be true with all the other images of the box.

okay, enough with the cats, we get it.

Why, oh why did they choose an albino snow leopard?
I thought that was meant for 10.7.
Anyway, it'll scare the children. At least it scares me.

Actually, you can see some blood around the mouth.
Sort of aggressive for a company that's in bed with Disney.
