From Apple press release info:

"CUPERTINO, California—September 9, 2009—Apple® today announced that Mac OS® X Snow Leopard will go on sale Wednesday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m."

Maybe it's so that people don't get confused about what they're buying. It's so obvious that this is Snow Leopard than just seeing an X on a shelf.

Where did you get that? It's not on apple.com/pr.

Edit: Oh, you're fooling around. Press release is dated September 9.

From that forum:

Snow Leopard will be out on September 9 2009. Apple are going to hold an event on this date, and release Snow Leopard, and there they will update the iPod range except for the Shuffle's. There will NOT be an Apple tablet shown off, but they will hold another event in october to unveil the tablet, and update the entire Mac Pro line slightly.

EDIT – Spelling & Grandma ( could not resist the poor spelling and grama thing hehe )

It makes no sense. They want to give people the opportunity to pre-order and then they announce availability on the same day it will be available?

Sounds like total nonsense to me. It's more like they want to have Snow Leopard released before or after the event, not on it. Especially since it's a music related event, Snow Leopard is about software and the Mac.

The disk number is 6388 (iWork version 9.0.1)

Thank you!

Uhm.
It could be real, then.
Let's just wait and see.
Or it is a test copy, printed to see how it would look like, then they would choose between the usual box with the X or the one with the leopard on it.

Snow Leopard Server also sports a similar DVD design as Snow Leopard client. This is the installer icon, which basically is a tiny version of the DVD.

Just a hunch, but I am more confident that the packaging is real. Say 90% confident in the box mock up.

As to the GM. I would say about 70%. We are just a little over a month away from the end of September. If another week goes by without any updates to the build, then I would be even more confident.

Honestly, the wallpapers are throwing me more than anything else. Microsoft is VERY far out in releasing a GM. Apple would certainly be cutting it close.

^ Windows 7 is done

Microsoft has to get the RTM bits to their partners, who need to test and qualify (and build) retail boxes. So yes, Win7 was finished on 13 July, but there's a lot of development by the OEM partners to get systems into the retail channel by the end of October.

Microsoft's schedule also gives plenty of time for problems to be fixed and added to Windows Update - so there will probably be quite a few pieces of the system that are newer than RTM when the system boxes ship.

Wirefullly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0))

That's what I meant. It's done and not releasing until October. True, they have to get it out to their partners, but the RTM is finished. Updates will come, but that is to be expected.

The partners have had the RTM for weeks. It's also available from MSDN.

So far, only two updates to the RTM, and they're data. (See user agent above....)
