iPhone 4 in my opinion was and still is the sexiest phone on the market. If you don't bury it in a case, it is so slick, so slender, simply amazing.

This iPhone 5 mockup is interesting but perhaps a step backwards in style. It strikes me a little boring for some reason. Perhaps is a different material was used instead of the matte aluminum.

The black glass contrasting against the chrome frame on the 4 is just perfection.

Yeah, valid in that the iPhone 4 is beautiful, but the back glass is GLASS.

4.65" is big ,4" is just right :)

the nexus is also 4.65 widescreen instead of more evenly distributed the samsung infuse is my sweet spot, sadly i cant seem to find a android phone that is fast enough to deal with its on ios.... my 3gs was out performing my droid x with smoothness, no lag etc...

i truly think apple is going to be releasing a phone similar to this. I doubt the company wants to kick off the Tim Cook era by releasing a slightly updated iphone 4s or whatever it is called. I think they want to show that the innovations will continue sans Steve Jobs so they release a radically redesigned iphone 5.

I've only skimmed through the first few pages of this cause there are so many dang posts.

One thing that stands out is that so many people keep saying these mock-ups look awful and they hope it looks the same as the iPhone 4.

It sounds to me like these people are just trying to feel better about their past purchase. They have an iPhone 4 and don't want to feel like their phone sucks in comparison so they are against it. And they seem to be ignoring the obvious problem of such a fragile device with an antenna problem.

Also, this is the exact same thing that has happened with the iPhone 4! People were saying "oh glass on both sides is so fragile, Apple would never do that!" But look at what these people are saying now. So all these people saying that need to shut up.

Face it, whatever the fifth generation iPhone looks like and whatever it does, you will all love it. It happens time after time.

This is just a mock-up and will look different from a re-designed iPhone 5, but I think people, for whatever reason, seem to think it will look EXACTLY like that.

Personally, I don't know what will come out on the 4th. Whether or not it is a redesign, I think it will be called the iPhone 5. They wouldn't say "Here's the new A5 chip, here's the new iOS 5 operating system, here's the new iPhone 4S." That would just be stupid. The 3GS lined up the numbers, they wouldn't mess it up. So if it is the same design or a new design, it will be called the iPhone 5.

100% speculation here, but I think it will be the same form factor with a bigger screen. Look at the new iPhoto icon as an example. But we will wait and see.

I love the design of the iPhone 4. If they solve the antenna issues and improve the guts of it and on top make the screen little larger they will hit another home run and sell tons of it.
I for one will be ordering one no matter what.

I am going to by no matter what. The only difference between a redesign or a non redesign is just that. The internals will be the same either way. The only other thing may be the screen, but then that may mess with the ppi and I am a sucker for a high pixel density.

There will be no difference in internals either way.

This is just beautiful.
If this is the new iPhone 5, then I will be getting it for sure.
Well I was going to get it no matter what, but this makes me much happier.

I want to believe in a redesigned fifth gen iPhone, but if their sources say the next iPhone will have wireless charging, then their sources aren't that great.

What if the so called "wireless charging" might be in a way similar to the touchstone for the touchpad???

Then something like that has already been done and not innovative. Thus not really for Apple. If they are going to do wireless charging, it would be a bigger deal than that. And there would have been more rumors about that feature, like how it is obvious that the next iPhone will have an A5 and an 8MP camera.

Home Button Changes

Is it just me, or does the wide home button seem like an odd design choice? The only reason I could imagine it being that big would be to accommodate some other use or functionality like certain gestures (possibly swiping left to right). Anyone else have any ideas? I really hope that if this design is real, the home button change isn't just for esthetic reasons, cuz I'm not a fan.

Proof Reading

The process to create this prototype is the same that's used to create the iPad. The back was machined from a sold block of aluminium, which was later treated with glass pearls to get the same slightly rough touch that we already know from the iPad.

It would be good if the editors would proof the content - sold should be solid - come on guys.

4" is still too small. browsing the web and reading books would be better on a 4.65" nexus prime.

Unless Apple releases something with a 4.65" screen and anyone else on earth makes a 4.75" screen. Then you will believe 4.65" is much to small for web browsing and reading.

I like the back and the design looks ******. I hope it looks better in person.

The wide home screen will be used as a trackpad like the magice trackpad for apple computers. Will have a swipe or slide motion affect. But what do I know it was a dead giveaway and only logical explanation.

I would rather a more durable type of glass or they should go make to aluminum. Im shocking with my phones and always drop them lol :p

I personally like the two (back/front) glass surface faces of the iPh4 and think that if Apple is to really go with a metallic back for its new iPh5, that would be a step back from a design point of view.

Edit: just saw the comment of Meandmunch - sorry to basically repeat what he is saying. But, indeed going back to the metal back is not appealing at all.

The black glass contrasting against the chrome frame on the 4 is just perfection.

Perfection it is! Think about it: Mini for example - once they released the new Cooper in 2001 - design was perfect - later models of the same automobile, are very similar to the original from 2001 and I would say uglier - how would you improve a perfect design - good question - maybe through adding more functionality to the form but certainly not going back to a the iPh3 design features...

If the design of the phone matches the case designs now floating around, then my guess of the new iPhone looking like a thicker version of the 4G iPod touch but with a 4" (diagonal) screen is probably the most accurate.

Mind you, I like the design, though. At least with a non-glass back, it makes the phone a lot less vulnerable to damage.
