All I'd want is a redesigned (larger screen rather) iPhone 5, with iOS 5. I like the mockup.

I'm not asking for much, but I will be a little disappointed if all we see is a speed increment. I don't care if they keep the iPhone 4 design just AT LEAST make the screen bigger. The 4th can't come sooner!

Not sure why everyone's emotions are riding high on whether the 5th iPhone will look like the 4 or if it will have a new design. Upgrading the internals is more important than the exterior.

iPhone 4 design with upgraded internals like 8MP camera, A5, 1GB RAM, Assistant, etc = SUCKS!

New design with upgraded internals like 8MP camera, A5, 1GB RAM, Assistant, etc = OMG YAY

The exterior is something you'll appreciate for a few days and then its back to regular iPhone business. But I do sympathize with those that wonder what the hardware team was doing for an extra 4 months if the design was the same.

But in the end, the internals are more important. Think of comparing a 3G to a 3GS today. 3G iPhones are completely crippled, slow, with none of the nice tricks if iOS 4. 3GS can almost do everything an iPhone 4 can do and it will still get iOS 5 and iCloud support.

In the long run, what happens inside will be more important...

Hmm... I disagree.. the casing size and material, not to mention - the screen size... ARE a BIG deal. The internals... when working perfectly already on my iPhone 4... ehh... to me.. not so much...

I've owned every gen model of the iphone, and have loved them all. They are very polished. And while I think the i4 LOOKS fantastic, it isn't anywhere near as comfortable in the hand as the 3Gs was. Not even close, the rounded edges were much better IMO. I've recently picked up a SGS2 and HTC sensation 4g, and personally won't buy the next iphone unless it has at least a 4' screen. I really like this mockup, I think it looks classy, elegant, yet can still be a power house of a phone.

How someone can complain this mockup looks too "rectangle", but then say they prefer the i4 design is beyond me. The i4 honestly looks like a brick. I'm not saying it looks bad, but it's about the most rectangular phone I've seen in a while.

Why would you buy a mock-up?

Bye the way: hart beat = hare brained = (anyothers?)

Kind of funny you try to point out the users incorrect spelling of the word "heart, then proceed to write "bye the way" instead of "by the way", moron. If you're gonna try to point something out, why not spell correctly yourself?

Sure we all want new great looking stuff, but I think the current model looks great and if they improve it further I will be more than happy with it. Apple usually overall the designs of the iPhone every two years, so I would not count this generation being dramatically different from last.

How do you figure? That makes zero sense to me, by your logic the 3Gs should have been a redesign of the 2G, which it was not. It was identical to the 3G. IMO the only complete redesign WAS the iphone 4, the 2G 3G 3Gs were all mainly spec bumps. And there has only been 4 iphones to date, and nowhere did they do a redesign at a 2yr point as you're suggesting. No idea what you think you're basing your info on.

Want to know the #1 reason I think this iPhone design won't happen?

One of the most applauded iOS5 improvements from the last keynote was the ability to use the volume up button to take photos.

Apple likely really wants this iPhone to continue to be the most popular camera on the market. Having the square edges of the iPhone 4 design makes a LOT more sense functionally for snapping pictures.

I doubt Apple is not going to redesign the iPhone aesthetics for aesthetics sake. The iPhone 4 is gorgeous already, and if it is more practically functional, the design will stick.

(Also, before anyone says "antennagate" - recall Apple has already expressed their opinion on that)

You want to know the no 1 reason it will happen?

While being popular for taking photos is indeed important for Apple, the reason that it is popular, isn't because they make the best camera phone, not even close. Instead, the iPhone is popular as a camera simply because so many have iPhones. And as a survey said the other day, well over 50% would consider buying an iPhone 5, but not a refreshed iPhone 4.

So, yes, it's important that it works well as a camera, but it's a lot more important to actually sell iPhones.

What would have been a good idea would be to have built in a green screen behind the glass front (or some how make it removable to show the "off" state, and then really tease people with iphone 5 youtube videos.

See, I think Im in the ridiculous camp of people that want a bigger screen but would end up hating a bigger phone in their pocket.

I loved handling a friend's Moto X2, but would I want that wide a phone in my pocket every day for the next 2 years? Im not sure.

If Apple just maxes out the screen size on current dimensions, it doesn't add much but at least it does give us the best of both worlds. as a consumer Im confused.

I watched the video in the link. the phone is razer thin. Looks like a mini iPad.

There are more comparison photos in the link as well. This design is very apple and makes sense. I hope something like this mockup is what actually comes out.

I understand the desires for a bigger screen, but what about the resolution of the bigger screen? Would be it the same 960x640 resolution on a larger display? Wouldn't that degrade the Retina marketing? And if they increased the resolution, wouldn't app makers have to rescale their software again to handle 3GS, 4, iPad, and 5 all having different resolutions?

I'd appreciate an explanation on how this stuff works!

Face it guys .. Apple touched the perfection with the iPhone 4 design. Really, I can just look at it and just enjoy it. This "5" is cool indeed but I still like the 4th much better.

I really like the 4, but thinner, faster, lighter and with a bigger screen would be pretty much the perfect iPhone IMO. Also with a larger camera lens and sensor to improve photo quality.

I agreed with you. I would understand the disappointment IF the current design was bad but that's hardly the case.
I also think Apple needed more time to develop iOS5 and the internal components to make sure the new iPhone is almost perfect. Moving the release to October and sticking to that also is a good way to use utilize the holiday season in their favor.
For all, whatever they come up next week, I will buy. My iPhone 3g cannot handle it anymore.

Based on what...?

Based on the fact that they keep throwing features others have already implemented. Assistant? Already debuted on Windows Phone Mango 2 months earlier. Notifications - Android already had 'em. What is truly mind-blowing about having an iPhone now?

This gives us little hope..i'm really looking forward to a redesigned iPhone 5. Otherwise it'll be a huge disappointment for everybody.
