I couldnt care less about about the appearance because mine will be in a sturdy case regardless. My only concern regarding the rectangle shape is that it will slip into pockets less easily and it is less sturdy/resistant to drops from a structural standpoint.

I just want a bigger screen. The tapered design is for sure gorgeous, but I'd be happy with a similar form factor, but larger screen. 3.5" is starting to feel really cramped.

all that work and attention to detail - and then they don't realize they let the camera auto-focus on the corner of the box, and not the model device!

Wow! Macrumors is going hard this time.

Just imagine if the real one looks uglier than this, we're gonna have some problems. :p

LOL no kidding. Myself an Android guy, is LOVING this new rumored iPhone5 mockup, I like the rectangular wide look, all black and thin slab. The earlier iPhones looked too "girly" for me, like they need come with a pink case in the box :p But this mockup looks absolutely perfect to me, and I would dump Android tomorrow for it. I hope it does indeed match this design.

But first I have to see the Nexus-Prime reveal on October 11th before I can commit 100%.

Well, tuesday we will know for sure.

And to think that the official product images are already floating around in the cloud somewhere...

Although hope for the redesigned iPhone 5 seen through third-party case designs is waning as evidence continues to stack up for the "iPhone 4S" design and no sign of the larger, tapered iPhone 5, that hasn't halted interest in the iPhone 5 design.

And while we took a stab at some renderings of a potential iPhone 5 based on the case designs, benm.at has now taken things a significant step further and created a physical mockup of the device. The mockup offers an excellent view of what the rumored iPhone 5 design might look like, and while the actual device may not be making an appearance next week, it is possible that the design may have been from a prototype that Apple could be working toward for a future generation of the iPhone.

People are insane.

Good job to whoever made these. A few things tough:

1) I really doubt that Apple will get rid of the mechanical home button. They might add some capacitive function, but they won't get rid of the mechanical. They easily could've put an all-touch button into the iPhone a long time ago, with little benefit. The third-generation iPod was all-touch buttons and it was a bit of a pain to use.

2) I wonder if they'll really use aluminum. Not really good for radio signals. Unless, they've stuck with the external antenna design from the iPhone 4 or are going to make a little antenna strip like the original iPhone, iPod Touch, 3G iPad, etc.

3) I hope they don't use the same volume/sleep button design as the iPad 2. Those seem like the ugliest, cheapest part of the whole thing. They're plastic, sharp, and wobbly - especially in comparison to the awesome detail and strength of the iPhone 4's buttons.

It'll be an awesome (or agonizing) time to be in the market for a new smartphone!! Mango...iOS 5, iPhone 5, iCloud, Nexus Prime, Ice Cream Sandwich..."Embarrassment of riches" is the phrase.

this thing better kick butt, Samsung just announced new Exynos 4212 and a 16-megapixel CMOS camera sensor

Why people wasted time to make this ugly mockup?

While I don't think it's ugly (I'm excited for a prospective 5) I don't understand why everyone froths at the mouth over a mock mockup as well. Hit the down button please. I'm shooting for a -67 from my fellow mac enthusiasts.

I personally LOVE this design.

Also, with the change in leadership the last thing i reckon apple would want to do is upset it's customers.

I think it's crucial for the brand for them to come through to help instil faith in cook's direction for the company and the brand... with such a valuable brand, the last thing they want to do is jeopardise their position in the market.

but we can only wait and hope for the best.

Please!

Would someone please start rapid-prototyping this kind of thing and sell it on ebay as an Apple prototype model? What do you think someone would pay? $1000? $10,000?

Hell, put an extendable antenna on it like that Macbook Pro prototype. drop in a circuit board that you spray-painted red and you're good to go :)

Iphone4

I had some speculations that the iPhone 5 wouldn't look "Apple" enough, but this confirms my thoughts that the iPhone 5 will NOT look like that. That looks nothing what Apple would do with a phone.

That's what people said about apple's iPhone 4 when it was leaked. They said that apple not never approve those visible antenna.

Apple, listen up, people like the looks of that thing. Do not miss out, otherwise some other company (likely Samsung) will wise up and take advantage of your missed opportunity.

I'm sure they can have this available by the 4th. Its no big deal

It needs a 4" screen. Everything else is secondary as it won't equally affect whether the iPhone can still compete with Android phones.

iPhone 5 Cases appears in AT&T Inventory

So this news may mess with your heads but I don't care. AT&T received updates in their Inventory System for iPhone Cases. Folks, no ordinary case but the same beautiful iPhone Cases that fueled the rumors for redesigned iPhone.
