800p resolution LCD is just bad for a 6.1 inch screen.

It is going to be pixelated and fuzzy. Plus lousy viewing angle will make it worse.

Even the 8+ is already pixelated when you tilt the screen at an angle. You can see the pixel lines

My question is, why are you so dismissive of the XR? Do you think the millions of iPhone users who are purchasing this phone worldwide are going to complain of the ‘issues’ that you’re protraying? I think we all have to realize that whatever is posted on a tech forum isn’t indicative of real world experience for everybody else’s uses with the XR.

I am not dismissive of XR. But I am dismissive of the low quality screen of XR. Come on, which "big screen 6.1 inch" phone uses 800p screen nowadays? For a $800 phone, no matter what excuses you use to defend the XR, it is still inexcusable that Apple uses such a cheap low resolution screen in XR.

But I am dismissive of the low quality screen of XR.

But I asked you a question, do you think the millions of iPhone consumers who will consider the XR through the holidays and in terms of upgrading in over the next year will really think, “Wow this is such a low-quality screen”. Which brings me to my point that I already mentioned, opinions on a tech forum are so over-the-top sometimes, they’re not conducive to the average consumers real world experience, they don’t even know the differences of resolutions between other iPhone models.

no matter what excuses you use to defend the XR.

What’s interesting, is nobody in here is really defending the XR in response to your post(s), I think they are refuting that your points are simply either [inaccurate and nonsensical] in the sense that most who are upgrading, really want a new form factor, the Face ID experience with an all display. Consumers generally don’t dissect PPI/resolution.

Understand all these blah blah..but why make excuses for apple? Low quality screen is still low quality screen no matter which way you spin it. Why put 3gb of RAM when 1Gb is sufficient? Why not use cheap slower eMMC memory? Why care about 5G when 3G speed is good enough?

"...to the average consumers real world experience, they don’t even know the differences of resolutions". Think you are dumbing down the average Iphone consumers...It is not they dont know the differences...they just put up with it.

My theory, the delay in release of the XR had nothing to do with supply. Apple was smart and wanted to take advantage of the early adopters. They new knew releasing the XR at the same time would severely cannibalize sales of the XS models. The XR is the phone 99% of the population should buying.

So I went to my local apple store and I used the iPhone XR today and may I say, I am seriously impressed. I currently have an 8 plus and the XR will definitely be my next phone. After playing around with the XR, I tried a XS too and it is of course much nicer and feels much more premium however, then I remember that it cost $250 more and I go right back to the XR. the bezels are there of course compared to the XS but they fade away quickly. Both cameras are extremely impressive and the screen looks great for an LCD. I also like how the device feels in the hand and it doesn't feel quite as fragile as the XS. Let me know what you thought of the Xr if you played with one in store or actually purchased one.

I had no problem switching from a Max to a XR. I personally don’t see a huge difference between the screens. The XR screen is a beauty. No body does LlCD as well as Apple. I’m completely satisfied with the XR. I suffered through three max’s with low signal, slow speed, WiFi and cellular connectivity problems. I now have a phone that performs it’s primary functions as a phone well. I don’t miss anything about the Max.

I work in the financial services industry in NYC and there are hundreds of employees on my floor so I have a pretty good diverse sample population. I guarantee if I ask 10 people in my row what PPI or resolution their iPhone is, they will look at me like I have 3 heads or need to get a life. In my direct vicinity alone are people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Men, women, married, single, gay, straight, white, Asian, black, etc. You are either in college or have a limited interaction with only tech heads.

It doesn’t help that in the tech world the NYC financial district is referred to as “Jurassic Park” These people are so out of it they still use blackberry devices.

I returned my XS Max for a XR yesterday. I like everything about the XR with none of the cellular and WiFi speed and connectivity problems of the Max.

Yes but it is a good representation of your "average" user (in finance/law/health services, etc.), as opposed to say a person working for Google or Microsoft.

You are really overestimating a typical consumer.

For anyone curious here is the heat map of mobile device usage in New York.

Green is Android, Red is iOS and that blob of purple? Thst’s Jurassic Park. The last bastion of Blackberry devices.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here - almost all of those blackberry users are also carrying iPhones as well. Some people prefer the keyboard for e-mail.

Interesting map but most Blackberry users here have the phone because it has been given to them as a business phone a few years ago. They all have iPhones (or Android) as their personal.

I have worked on the IT side. They literally refuse other devices.

To take a look at the Xr. My wife picked it up and said “is this a toy?” I have to admit it did feel a little cheap and plasticky. Perhaps we have all been used to Apple gear having a real quality feel.
I’m sure it will work well for some folks, but deal me out on this one.

That’s weird because it’s made of aluminum and glass. Has she ever even heald a cheap phone like an LG?

Felt solid, well built and metal/glass to me just like any other aluminium iPhone, though I got the Xs instead, but the Xr certainly don’t feel “toy like” for sure.

Adam.

Did she say the same thing about iPhone 8/8+? It's made of the same materials. Definitely wouldn't describe them as cheap and plasticky. Maybe iPhone 5C, sure.

What kind of stuff are you guys on? It's glass, which should feel more premium than aluminium, and the sides are aluminum, the same as every other iPhone model except the X

And if you don't like the wild colours go with Black or White like Apple has always done
