Eh.

I own a Toyota and a Lexus. The Toyota and Lexus both get me from point A to point B and do so quite well.

I massively prefer the Lexus.

I wouldn’t get either and get myself an Lincoln at least lol but still does the same thing .

Nice try, but pointing to ‘choice’ and shouting ‘rip off’ is never going to work.

Well to be fair there is choice but all the flagship devices have increased in price so it could still be a rip off. Yeah you can go mid range but if you’re looking at just iPhones, LG, google and Samsung they have increased their prices across the board.

These prices are just a generalized price and not based off the msrp

iPhone XS $1,000
iPhone XS max $1,100
Samsung galaxy S9 $800
Samsung galaxy s9 plus $900
Note 9 $1,000
Pixel 3 $800
Pixel 3 XL $900
LG G7 $800

iPhone 4 was around $600-700 brand new back then

That assuming true blacks are important to the user. I have an OLED TV but can’t give rat’s a** about having OLED on my tiny phone. Can’t be bothered to watch anything significant on the tiny screen.

Better blacks also helps with more then videos . Oled is just better period.

I am not trying to say anything. I am saying straight up that many are already outside the return period and Apple already has their money. If you aren’t beyond and choose to keep it that is what you want to do. Those beyond the 14 days no longer have the option or choice.

Well we all knew when it was coming out. It’s not like Apple didn’t announce it or the release date and just decided to release it with no press

Not entirely true. There’s s very telling reason why Apple didn’t release all models at once
Everyone on this forum knew the Xr was coming so I don’t think anyone here can complain about being ripped off.

Thats why the Xr exist for you.

Better for the 99.99% the people complaining equals the 0.01%
Is there something actual those numbers are based on? (And even with a majority and minority in play, it still means a generic "it's better" doesn't apply to everyone nonetheless.)

Lol it’s better period for the majority. Otherwise you’ll see more lcd screens in flagships which you don’t.

Of course it has better blacks, but most don’t find that necessary on a tiny phone. Heck, most don’t find that necessary on the tv so ppl just buy lcd since significantly cheaper.

Most don’t find necessary? Most people don’t want to spend $1,600 + on a tv. Once those reach under $1,000 that will tell when or if oled sells main stream or not.

So, again, it's not just a generic better that would apply to everyone.

(However, using that logic, it seems that Apple was saying LCD was better just until a year ago.)

Precisely. Then why do you think most want to spend $1k+ on a phone? And I said most, not techies. It’s about the perceived value and most won’t see having an OLED on the phone justifies the $250+ difference in cost.

Apple logic is flawed. Jumped onto the OLED bandwagon like 4 years late. And once again OLED is factually better at everything except truer color reproduction. And for that subset you have a very small minority that might need it.

And yet the X sold a lot. The Note 8 sold a lot ( basically a $1k phone I paid. Around $950 for it ?) most people never buy their phones out and only see the $40 dollar lease , $40 a month finance payment charge and etc. the XS and max has outsold the XR if you want to look at how empty the stores was for the XR vs the XS.

I noticed the lack of interest, but I’m willing to bet it’ll sell more than the XS series until the next phone is released. X sold a lot because that was the only full screen phone last year. Time will tell.

And yet nobody is buying it yet of any significance at least as of now. The same was said of the 5C and we see how that went although I think it will fair better then it. As far as the full screen goes most people don’t care except the geeks. As long as it is an iPhone and does what they want they will buy it. That being said you’ll have the people who bought the 8 and 8 plus just because it was cheaper then the X will be the ones who buy the XR. The XR will be the phone for the people who just want an Apple device and either can’t afford spending $1000 plus on a phone or just don’t care about the screen as long as it works.

So Apples logic was flawed for a while. That means that what manufacturers can decide can be flawed and isn't necessarily actually better. Meaning what manufactures put out there doesn't necessarily mean something one way or another (as it could have all kinds of meanings to it, down to even flawed ones).

Nope. Apple logic is different then others. Apple decides what they like and then assume it’s the “best” which is why we have features that has been on Android for years and then proclaim it the best thing since sliced bread when it comes on an iPhone. Oled is more expensive then LCD and there is ways to increase the Sale price of the phone without putting in OLeD screens inside. Look at Apple who has been doing it themselves with LCD phones as new as the 8 and 8 plus. Oled is bette period. End of story

Except for those for whom it's not.

For maybe the 1% ? Still doesn’t mean it’s not a better display. It’s a better display with better color, blacks and viewing angles.

For those few you have the inferior screen with the XR. Problem solved

Except it certainly wouldn't be inferior to those people.

It’s an inferior screen still nonetheless. Lower resolution and is an LCD. Why do you think Apple names it a “Liquid Retina LCD display “ ? To make up for the fact the screen is below the XS and max screen. It’s not even 1080p which is horrible. I’m not hating on the screen but seriously below 1080p for a $750 device ?

I very much doubt people who couldn’t afford an X but bought an iPhone 8 are the types of people who change their phones after just 12 months. In fact I don’t know a single person away from internet conversations who upgrade annually and that’s mainly down to people not being into mobile phones in the geekier sense.

I bought an iPhone 8+ a couple of weeks back and I really am into my tech usually. I’ve just got bored with the way mobile phones are getting more expensive but not really having anything exciting enough to justify it. Most of my friends and family either use iPhone 7’s and 8’s and that goes for people I work with too. Two girls I work with have ordered XR’s so i’ll have my first hands on with that tomorrow. A lot of people these days are upgrading every 2-3 years lately I’m finding and iPhones just aren’t getting the same excitement they used to. The XR might have certain inferior components but it’s by far the most exciting phone Apple have released in the last couple of years I’d say. Still happy with my 8+ though.

Apple isn’t ripping anyone off. They test what the market will bear and we all just pay up to get the next products from them. If we didn’t buy them then they would drop prices until we did but obviously the majority of us are willing to pay the current high market price.

To me this is just the OP having a case of buyer's remorse after seeing the XR in hand they realized it would have fit their needs and been perfect with a lower price tag. Now they are locked into the XS Max since they got it on Day 1.

After owning an XR and trying out the XS and XS Max first hand I can honestly say the 2018 iPhones are the best iPhones yet. Anyone who owns an XR, XS or XS Max should feel happy and proudly say "I have the best" because you do. Each iPhone was made for different types of users so everyone has a choice and can be happy. Now I do have my own criticism about each iPhone but that's another thread.

I'm just being honest, the point is Apple didn't rip anyone off but if you did jump the gun in September instead of waiting to give the XR a try out in October then you let the nature of the impulse buy get the better of you I'm afraid.
