A pic after the update. Some calls, lots of sms, little ipod use, some 3G and little location services use.

When I first got it, I ran the battery all the way down until it self shuts off, then charged it all the way up, and then ran it all the way down, then I took this photo. It literally self shut down about 5 minutes after I took this photo. Auto brightness was turned OFF the whole time, and I had the brightness set at about 25%. I have since discovered that while indoors, turning the brightness all the way down is easily tolerable. I don't know why anyone would turn the brightness all the way up, or even on 50percent, unless you were outside. 25% of total brightness works great.

Usage: half of the time, it was on 3G. half of the time, it was on EDGE only. For about one hour, it was on WiFi. Web browsing constitutes the majority of the usage time, with GPS accounting for about 20 minutes total. About 45 minutes of usage was just organizing things and exploring the different features of the phone (I have not used the iPod at all; zero minutes). About 30 minutes of talk time. Bluetooth OFF because I do not own a bluetooth headset. I have found that it doesn't make a difference whether I charge it in the evening or in the morning; the standby while I am sleeping consumes barely any battery life at all.
(rubber case from Incase, which I bought at the Apple store)

I have 3G turned off most of the time - due to AT&T's horrible coverage in my area (I have nearly full EDGE coverage, however). I also only turn Bluetooth on when I need to use my headset in the car.

How? While I get decent life, I get nowhere near this kind of life. At best, I get just over 5 hours of mixed use with about 17 hours standby to leave me at about 25-30% battery. I have 3G on, BT on, GPS off, wifi off, Yahoo and MobileMe push on*.

*Having Push on or off seems to make no difference for me, so I leave it on.

Probably because I have it set to GSM unless location services (GPS) or fetch required 3G. My BT is always off and I don't have push enabled either.
I have brightness set between the BR and auto-brightness off.

Also, since I work in a hospital I enable airplane mode for most of the day. I'm sure this accounts for most of my extended battery life.

Best of luck...

Today

Usage 3 hr, 8 min
Standby 8 hr, 28 min

3G off, LocServ off, Push on, brightness at 25%

Battery with about 30% left. Another crappy day.
Turn off push. That, more than 3G or screen brightness, is probably the battery suck.

Just before I went to sleep last night, the "10% battery" notice flashed. When I woke up this morning, my phone was still on, and I browsed the web for about 20 minutes before the phone shut off. This leads me to conclude that when the phone is in standby it barely consumes any battery. Although it would be impossible for someone to let their iPhone go for a week without touching it, if I extrapolate my observation, it leads me to conclude the iPhone 3G could probably last a week in standby. This makes sense because a regular cell phone (I had a Razr) is designed just to be a phone, but the iPhone is designed to be a computer; so the battery is for a the energy-hungry computer --So, if the computer is off, this battery should be able to power "just a phone" for a LOOOONG time.

Which would be why Push and network switching is killer.

how are you able to do a screen shot

Hold down the home button and the power button at the same time. The screen will flash and the image will be stored in your photos. I recommend beginning to push the home button a split second before pushing the power button. Then go to your photos, click the icon on the bottom left corner of the photo, select "email" and email it to yourself.

So this morning, I expected to have a mostly fully-charged battery with about 30 minutes of usage and nearly 12 hours of standby. Instead I get the numbers attached.

So the answer has to be how it's fetching info, since I recently set up MobileMe. I was having it fetch data every hour. Apparently, that keeps the usage going. I changed Mail to fetch manually, which it did before. My question is, if I set all data to fetch manually, how do I manually sync Contacts and Calendar on the iPhone? Does it fetch every time I launch those apps?

Is there somewhere that displays the battery percentage or are you saying "15%" because that's an estimate of what the battery meter is showing? I've seen people say they have, say 55% and I wonder how they got such a precise number.

AFTER YOU HAVE COMPLETELY RUN YOUR PHONE DOWN, YOU CAN
TAKE THE SCREENSHOT WHILE THE PHONE IS CHARGING...

I was just making an estimate as I received the "less than 20%" automatic notification popup a few minutes prior to making a screenshot

Here is my battery usage screenshot. Not much phone call. Watched a movie. Listened to music. Usage is mostly internet, sms and email. Wifi on at all times. Used 3G outside Wifi area. Location off. Brightness at 50%. Is this good or is this bad?

Looking for suggestions...ever since adding MobileMe, battery life isn't nearly as good. That's with Push off and fetching data every hour. Do I need to set the fetching to manual? I'm still not sure how to sync contacts and calendar in full manual mode.
