Here's what I had in the last three days from charging at night to checking the phone in the morning, phone set to standby for the whole time:

On the first day I had this:
8 Hrs 44 Min Usage
10 Hrs 24 Min Standby

On the next day:
9 Hrs 12 Min Usage
10 Hrs 48 Min Standby

The next night the phone froze and I had to reset it, the numbers in the morning were:
22 min Usage
9 Hr 38 Min Standby

Something was stuck before the crash causing the standby numbers to be very high. Not sure what it was yet.

You would think Apple would have the software programmed to automatically turn all of these things on and off depending on whether they are actively being used or not (this mainly applies to location services, WiFi, and 3G). If you are not browsing the web, 3G should automatically turn off. If you open a new browser, it should automatically perform a quick check for WiFi. Otherwise, WiFi should be off). Although a user should be able to manually turn these things on and off, the user shouldn't have to. If a browser is not open, 3G should automatically turn OFF! If you are not looking at google maps or an app that uses GPS, then the location services should automatically turn OFF!

Does location services actually drain any power when not running maps or other location based apps?

I like your thinking...it certainly has to be doable from a programming perspective...maybe not easy, but certainly doable. And considering the value it would bring I think it would certainly be worth the effort.

Mine charges to around 90% in just over an hour, then takes another hour or so to get to 100%. That is of course if the readout is to be trusted :)

I thought my battery was pretty good, but 12 hours use and nearly a day of standby with everything turned on seems phenomenal. I'm going to turn everything on except for location services for the next charge, and see how it goes :)

Yea thats incredible. I wish I could get that.

Most people on this thread have reported ~4hrs usage and ~12hrs standby. Combined, that means your phone has been on for 4 + 12 = 16 total hours, right? In a 24hr period, most people sleep 8 and are awake 16, so this should work out, right? (if you sleep less than 8, I'm sure you will be back at home and be able to plug your phone into the charger)

So, you are getting 4hrs + 12hrs = 16 total hrs, right ???

I'm pretty sure I've read/heard in several places that the GPS is only active when using an application that can use it.

I'm pretty sure the "Standby Time" listed on the iPhone's usage indicator includes usage, so really 4hrs usage + 12hrs standby = 12 total hrs since your last charge.

Here's may latest Battery Usage screenshot. This is with everything on using both 3G, Edge, brightness on auto about 25%. Location services on, even used the GPS. This was taken at the 10% warning. Talking on the phone, web surfing, emails (also Push is on). I also have no cracks, the family of unicorns that raised my phone must have taken good care of it:) I also use bluetooth during all waking hours.

I don't buy it. Are you sure you charged the phone fully and that the counter reset?

Here is my latest screen cap. Got the 10% warning a few hours ago.

Edge most of the day, except when I was on the other side of town and switched to 3G for a couple hours.

Auto brightness

Location services off

Used lots of email

I don't see how anyone can get 24 hours+ on one charge. I know I sure can't. Irked.

Yeah, that looks about like my usage. I simply can't get more than 12-15 hours or so on standby if I actually use the phone. Today I listened to music for about 2 hours at the gym, talked for about 1.5 and used Wifi/EDGE for about 30 minutes. Here's my usage right before it died.

Why would the standby time include usage time? That makes no sense.

It may not make any sense, but that's the way it is.

Example: I unplugged my iPhone around 9:30 one morning, carried it around all day, used it to talk, surf the web, check email, play games, etc. About 11:00, I checked the usage and took a screenshot. Here it is.

Well I'm not selling. That's what mine gets regularly. I just full charged mine and it was at zero. If it had been plug in since last full charge it says so.

Standby does include usage just tested it, after a full charge both at zero as I used it both the usage and standby recorded the same values.

Will post another screen shot when I run it down.

3G - ON
Push - ON
Wifi - OFF

Couple of phone calls. Some web surfing. Brightness about 40%.

That's the way they did it. I'd argue they should have called "standby" something else, but standby does include usage.

I have since noticed the same on my phone now. Instead of "standby," they should call it "total" since it is really "standby + usage."

NOTE to everyone:
LCD screens consume A LOT of energy! You should NOT have your phone on "auto brightness." Auto brightness should be OFF, and you should have it set at about 50% (or less). This will save an enormous amount of energy. Try it for yourself and you will see!

how many hours of iPod are you including? On an iPod only test I got around 24 hrs usage. But seriously, if you get all that usage time when calling or surfing, no iPhone battery is seriously messed up.

wi fi mostly on, Edge on mostly(im on EDGE ONLY phone), blue tooth- never on, Location Services always on

Time Since Last Full Charge:

Usage: 1hr, 15 mins

Standby: 7hrs, 30 mins.
(iPhone has been plugged in since last full charge)

Call Time:
Current Period: 6 minutes

Lifetime: 6 minutes

Cellular Network Data:
Sent: 50.0KB
Recieved: 281KB
(what is this?)

guys do you think I have to send my phone back?

3G on, wifi and push off.....

^^depends on how you're using it. I could easily make my battery last that long! Have you been playing games? using maps with GPS? etc

Here is another one from mine. This time I was using wifi mostly. Most of the usage time is from the browsing I would say. That's why I'm shocked some people are getting triple my battery usage time - they MUST be doing stuff other than web browsing (iPod?)

As a general rule, if you think your battery is defective, do a more reliable test, like an MP3 playback test. You can't compare apples and oranges.
