That's just how the cookie crumbles. The SAME people that are whining for the iPad 3/5.1 jailbreak right now will be CRYING a year from now when there are no exploits for iOS 7 or the iPad 4/new iPhone.

This is exactly why I voted to wait. The people crying for the 5.1 jailbreak now are the people who were too stupid to obey the first rule of jailbreaking. As soon as the 5.1 jailbreak is closed they'll be the very people to update to 5.1.1 or 5.2 and start harassing the devs about the next jailbreak. If your dying for a jailbreak on your 4S or iPad 2 then sell the one you have and buy one that's jailbroken, it's not hard to find jailbroken devices. I would love for my iPad 3 to be jailbroken but at the same time I'd also REALLY like for my iPhone 5 and iPad 3 to be jailbroken on iOS 6 this fall. If you love to jailbreak your devices then whenever Pod2g releases the next jailbreak you need to donate MONEY. I gave $30 for Corona and will do the same for the next jailbreak. If you can afford a $500 CELLPHONE you can afford to donate $20 or $30. Every dollar you donate helps the next jailbreak arrive sooner.

Exploit finders and jailbreak devs REALLY need to start conserving and being more intelligent about burning exploits.
For the hundredth time, conserving has NEVER worked.

A well respected dev (Chpwn) who got burned by conserving exploits for IOS 5 has already made that crystal clear on twitter.

If your message didn't work the first 99 times, why are you posting it again for the hundredth time? Shouldn't you give up according to your line of reasoning? Or were you being funny? In word you do one thing, in deed the other.

Sure I could sell my 4S and buy a jailbroken 4S but that's too risky for me since you can't restore. If you're buying a used jailbroken 4S that means you are at the mercy of whatever the original owner installed for tweaks. If there is even the slightest problem you very well could have to restore to 5.1 and then you're stuck again. Too risky for a guy like me.

Plus we haven't heard a single word about ios6. We have absolutely no clue when it'll be released or what it will have for new features. Again, another avenue that's too risky and too many unknowns to wait and hold the exploits for a jailbreak. Plus what happens if after all the betas are released and the holes are closed? That would be a collosal waste. That's just my opinion. And very ones entitled to their own. This thread has a lot of reasons to wait that I never considered. Good job everyone.

IMO:

Jailbreaking iPad 3 and iPhone 5 on iOS 6 >>> Jailbreaking iPad 3 and iPhone 4S on iOS 5 (You already can jailbreak your 4S unless you messed it up).

Exploit finders and jailbreak devs REALLY need to start conserving and being more intelligent about burning exploits. iOS is becoming more secure and the mobile chips are as well. They can't just continue releasing a jailbreak within weeks for each new iDevice or iOS. If people want to jailbreak, they have to start being safer and more conservative - paying closer to attention to iOS updates, knowing that if they buy a new iDevice they may have to wait a few months for a jailbreak.

That's just how the cookie crumbles. The SAME people that are whining for the iPad 3/5.1 jailbreak right now will be CRYING a year from now when there are no exploits for iOS 7 or the iPad 4/new iPhone.

This is my feelings...I'd check and see if the exploit is there in the beta, if it is not, release, but if it is, hold on until iOS6

You shouldn't have to restore, many things are manually fixable with SSH.

And yes we will know basically everything about ios 6 in a month and it will be released in October. If the holes are closed, THEN release the jailbreak for 5.1

I think at this point, jailbreaking 5.1 is the most logical choice... planning it be the final release before 6.0 that gets such treatment.

The problem I see with waiting is 6.0, nobody knows what it's going to bring in the first place.

I'm obviously no expert on this subject however. :D

I hear what you're saying but when the betas came out for ios5 the hackers found multiple exploits. However when the GM was released they quickly learned that those exploits had been closed. That may or may not happen with ios6, which brings me back to my own opinion why they should release the JB now rather than wait. There is no guarantee that the current exploits will work with ios6. But by all accounts they WILL work with 5.1.

It's an interesting debate. In the past when this discussion came up it wasn't as big of a deal. There were multiple hackers working on exploits and Apple wasn't as good at preventing jailbreaks. But with each ios release the JB gets harder and harder to create while simultaneously fewer hackers work on new exploits. So in order to maximize the opportunity to jailbreak new iOS releases they need to be strategic on when they release them to the public.

But in the end it's up to one man only; pod2g. If he decides to hold the exploits to see if they exist on ios6 then that's cool too. If that is what he chooses then so be it. It is what it is! I'm happy with my phone stock but it would be a lot more enjoyable if it were jailbroken. But if it remains stock I'm fine with that too. It's just a phone!

Right but from what I understand I think that's because comex was in the loop with those exploits and then he went to work for Apple.

Interesting. I did not know that.

Sure, the same way I'll be crying 10 years from now because my iPhone 15 won't have jailbreak!

I guess we should keep the exploits just to see if they work on iPhone 82716

So what about that...

p0sixninja
Haha, this next jailbreak is going to have a record number of exploits, all more epic then ever!!!

@p0sixninja what's your opinion on whether it should be saved for 6 or not?

@BootlipMcSkeets I say burn baby burn :p

So, chpwn and p0sixninja said BURN, what about that...

That is just being ridiculous and you know it, we have a new phone coming out soon(ish)...if the exploit is still there, save it for the next ios...exploits are getting harder and harder at the moment...if they are closed in the ios6 beta, then burn them, but if not...may as well wait.

I agree that's absurd. But just because the exploits exist in beta 1 does not mean they'll be there when the GM is released. Ios5 is a recent example of this situation: exploits exist in beta but are closed on the GM.

But your logic fails in the same way as mine.

We always will have a new phone coming, so why should i buy one now if just after a few time will be another one better?

We can't hold something if we don't have sure of it.

Not as badly as your fails, we've already jailbroken the current phone...so when a new phone comes out, we jailbreak it when it comes out

If they continue to burn exploits you're right, they very well may not have a jailbreak for that phone.

Again, lots of the devs are saying now, but that doesn't necessarily decide the outcome.

Exactly.

and 5 months isn't exactly just around the corner.

May I ask WHY you want a jailbreak now? Jailbreaks are far more valuable for the iPhone than iPad, and everyone knew when purchasing one there was no jailbreak guarantee on the horizon.

5.1 really does offer NOTHING better than 5.0.1. If they can virtually instantaneously jailbreak iOS 6 untethered because they conserved, that would be amazing.

Michael

If you were an enthusiast, you knew better than to wait until now for a jailbreak ready phone. You had from October until March, and one could argue even later as their stock probably still had 5.0.1 or lower for some time. You can't have everything the way you want it when you want it.

Warranty/messing up your jailbreak is a potential point, but that constitutes a very small percentage of users, and unfortunately the exploits must be used for the greater good. It stinks, however I actually had my phone replaced under warranty because I was picky about the sticking volume button and it had 5.0.1. That was a week ago.

Not as badly as your fails, we've already jailbroken the current phone...so when a new phone comes out, we jailbreak it when it comes out

What i'm saying is, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THESE EXPLOITS WILL WORK!

It's simple... If iOS 6 become what all expect, it's more than obvious that they won't work. iOS 6 will probably made from scratch.

----------

If they continue to burn exploits you're right, they very well may not have a jailbreak for that phone.

So, can you please tell me if the exploits used on iOS 4 are the same on iOS 5? Same goes for iOS 2, 3...

I have a jailbroken 4S on 5.0.1 and I don't own any iPads. I want them to use the exploits now so I can do a restore and start fresh. I'm also thinking about the people who bought the iPad 3 or iPhone 4S with 5.1 preinstalled.

If we were guaranteed that iOS 6 could be jailboken unthethered instantaneously as you say then I might reconsider but aren't they all saying it's a gamble? pod2g said that himself.

It's no gamble at all if they just wait another month for the iOS 6 beta.

Plus, it's not like the tool is ready to go. Last we heard he had all exploits but had to make the tool. We still have at minimum a week or a few, at that point might as well wait another week or two to see what happens with iOS 6.

I think that Apple is leaving money on the table here at iOS 5.1 without the jailbreak. I can not even purchase iPhoto mobile for $4.99 US stuck at 5.0.1, and have to wonder how many others are holding back. At this point, I may end up staying at 5.0.1 until I upgrade to the iPhone 5 late this fall when my free upgrade period arrives. Then, we will be on iOS 6? or will we have to wait for summer 2013 with the iPhone 5s? Either way, if there is a jailbreak now for 5.1 it seems frivolous to hold out thinking that Apple could not close the exploits itself if it were so desired. I think pod2g is selfish and overly-protective of his intellectual property - not a true "team player". Apple has hackers on the payroll playing with the dev team exploits already imo, not just for some hobby and the challenge, but for a multi billion dollar tech giant... 50% of whose last quarter profits came from phone sales. just saying.

Beta can be very different than the final product. Plus, it won't prepare us for the future hardware that may come. So at best, we could preserve strictly for anything <iPhone 4s/iPad 3. This isn't worth it for me. The only way to be sure is to wait till the new phone drops, which for most (including myself) isn't worth it.
