Yeah I saw the price increase earlier today, it's disgusting! It's a SIXTH of the cost of the base machine! It does NOT cost a sixth more to import into the UK but Apple are very very quick to blame Brexit on price gouging the customer...
I'll keep my iPhone as its the only phone size I seem to like, and I like 3D Touch, I'll keep my iPad Pro too as I use it a lot. But I won't be buying another Mac, I really am interested in the new Surface Studio, I don't need it but it's really innovative and clever and Starcraft two would look amazing on it! Plus I wouldn't need to use two different OS's then either..

I agree, the current exec team have no direction apart from lining their pockets.. they should ditch Cook and Ive as a start! I never thought I would say Ive should go, but his obsessiveness with thinness is flipping ridiculous!

The config of new MacBook Pro in the UK I would want is 40 quid short of THREE GRAND!! For an underpowered laptop.. no thanks.

18% price increase, based on the 18% the pound lost against the dollar, so YES it has become that much more 'expensive' to import to the UK. Blame the UK government for the handling of Brexit and the spiralling economy. Dell etc are putting a further 10% increase on all kit coming into the UK from Nov 1st and that's just the beginning. Wait till March next year when they begin the process to back out of Europe. It's going to be a very long and painful process which will hit joe public hard in their pockets with increased pricing across the board.

No, I'm not going to get one. I sold my 2012 15" rmbp recently (2.3/8/256) and I was hoping to upgrade to the new 15", but the price increase to go along with the removal of ports has pushed me towards a 2015 15" instead.

At the moment I'm looking at a slightly used 2015 15" (2.5/16/512/dgpu) model with AC that I can get much cheaper than the new model. I'll probably pick that up and maybe when the AC runs out in 2019 take a look at them again. Plus I don't have to worry about dongles for all of my peripherals.

They could have put them in the 13" models

Not the 15" yet.

But kaby is a very incremental upgrade over sky lake.

Even if these new MacBooks had kaby lake though, it still wouldn't justify the price hike. As impressive as these computers are, they are overpriced - much more so than the traditional apple tax stereotype.

Not directed towards you or anyone in general but note The retina iMac 5k from last fall was apples first sky lake computer, that winter intel was where intel really started to lag in their release schedule.

From what I've read the ones that are out do offer a small speed bump over Skylake, but are much more power efficient and run cooler in a thin enclosure, which is why HP selected them for the new Spectre series.

BS, and what's your excuse when they have increased the iPad Pro price by a tenth due to 'Brexit' then? Yet more rubbish no doubt..

There are docks and hubs out there with enough usb-a, sd-card and hdmi ports. plus, usb-c is future proof and we are just in the time of change.
It may be bitter now but we wont care in 0,5-1 year period.
You're not supposed to need hubs and docks for a pro level machine.
Plus the move from usb a is not very consistent in the industry. It was different in the beginning of computing but we're at the point where usb a is regarded as the main infrastructure, swapping them out entirely is just insane.

The time it will take for the industry as a whole to accept usb c as a de facto standard (if it will ever happen) is like 5 years into the future, at that time, the computers of today will be obsolete. And as such, its very existance (the new mbp) is questionable...

Since I have a late 2011 MBP with graphics chip failure looming over my head, a new MBP has been on my radar. I'll probably wait a few months for the dust to settle and get some time playing with it in the store before making my decision. Just wish the 2TB SSD option wasn't so expensive.

It'll be interesting to see what the new AMD GPUs are like and how they perform in a variety of applications. It sounds like they'll be optimised for pro applications rather than games.

Interesting to add up all the definite "no" votes.
Currently it's at 36%.
That's pretty substantial if you extrapolate to millions Apple hopes to sell.
Of course, MR members are probably a bit more selective when it comes to Mac buying unlike the the general population.

I have absolutely zero problem paying for quality (bought a very expensive Philipp Plein Polo because my hopefully soon to be gf loves the brand as do I) but for me it's a matter of value for the price I'm paying and sadly I don't see it here.

it's hard for me as a student to ask my parents for the extra money. I'm sure they would pay it

I suppose it's nice you're not too entitled feeling. :D :D
The price of your shirt (hopefully not from 'allowance') would have covered the difference in pricing more or less, although the point remains true - a lot of folks don't see the value to them justifying the cost.

I'm assuming that these new ports are so fast you can work off an external drive with no noticeable lag?

Yes, they should be plenty fast. I edit 4K on my 2015 rMBP with an external usb 3.0 SSD, and unless something's rendering when I switch to full resolution there is no lag.

I was considering a potential upgrade before the keynote (I got great deal on my MacBook and Applecare and could easily sell and get all my money back) but this release is pretty "meh" to me and I'll be sticking with my mid-2015 model. It's handles everything I throw at it just fine. I like my ports, I like my keyboard, and I actually prefer the finish and design.

Yes I would but the point like you said remains the same. I just don't see much value in paying almost 2.000 bucks for a dual core cpu, with soldered on Ram and a keyboard which I know I don't like and of course removing essential ports from the machine. There really is no excuse for not putting a quad core into the machine at that price range.

I know it's very subjective but for me it's just not worth it, which is sad cause I was looking forward to a MBP. Sadly thinner, lighter is now also getting into the way of a so called pro machine.

And no bought via store not online.

I've been following the MacRumors Buyer's guide for months now. Guess what! It just updated 3 days ago! I guess I'll have to stick with their advice... ;)

When you are selling something with a profit margin window then the windows shortens due to a change in currency you can either make less money or you put the price up. if it was your business what would you do?

You seem to be one of these emotional irrational idiots who can't understand that the pound has lost value against the dollar and imported goods are going to increase in cost. The iPad already increased in price, the smaller further increase aligns it with the currency now.

Is it only the UK who have seen GBP prices increased across the board?

Haven't apple increased pricing in Europe as well?

Well, this little machine, and my work reality, just convinced me to abandon a planned iMac upgrade (currently have 2011 27" top-spec, was going to get next updated model) and replace my iMac + Air setup with a 15"MBP + dock / screen / peripherals setup.

I never thought I would be a Macbook Pro guy, but my inner businessperson (wants modular solution that works great on the go/in meetings) won the argument with my inner nerd (who wanted the powerful desktop and mega screen).

Can't wait to get it in the mail.

i know apple is not the kind of company to turn back easily after they take a decision, but damn, the more i look at that touch bar the more i dislike it.
- i don't want a siri button always present, as simple as that.
- it's now harder, if not impossible, to change the volume, and play/pause/skip without looking down at it.
- there's no tactile or haptic feedback of keypresses.

i wouldn't want to be over with apple computers just because of that.
hardware wise, they're still the most balanced computers, every competitor either offer worse igpu, feel less sturdy, use touch interface i don't need, have squashy keyboard (SP4), awful trackpads.
just that touch bar... arrggh

My situation is a bit different. My 2011 17" macbook pro has a dead battery and poor thing is now very slow for rendering. It has done me stalwart service but I have to upgrade now, I have a job on.
I'm not whelmed by this offering but I don't have a lot of choice now.

Surely you can turn off Siri??
God I hope so!
It dials people in the middle of the night when I haven't even invoked it, I just wanted to read a book!

I've seen people from Australia and Canada complaining as well, it's not just us.

in all examples i've seen (here), the button is always there, the rightmost one, hence my fear.
That's terrifying.
I now have to worry about inadvertently phoning people at 2am from my computer as well as my phone when all I did was tell Siri to leave me alone?
WaHHH!!!
