I'm already considering submitting a cancellation and getting in on the Grove case pre-order. The Portenzo is really calssy, but there is something so fresh with the Grove. And only weighs 7oz.

The Grove case does look pretty cool. I would suggest, however, that you check out the Grove Facebook page. Lots of complaints about Grove taking deposits but not being able to give any kind of shipping estimate. Following are a few comments:

"I can't help but ask: What kind of planning do you guys have that you cannot give an estimated date of availability for the iPad2 case? Telling us "3-6 weeks" for 3 weeks in a row now and meanwhile taking our money stinks. Whoever is in charge of this mess needs to take a project management class..."

"And, no, I haven't heard anything. The website states that we will be contacted, but nothing changes (it's still 3-6 weeks, just like 3 weeks ago), so there's obviously no progress made."

It all looks awfully familiar. Just saying.

From 3/28 06:06 PM:
These people still have not responded to my cancellation request from a week ago. Luckily Amex knows how to deal with shifty merchants.

From 3/29 05:51 AM:
Yep, 2 weeks since I placed a cancellation request and nothing.

12 hours = another week? Personally, I emailed on 3/23 and they confirmed the cancellation by email on 3/26. Don't know what happened in your scenario...

BTW, I did not cancel because of the wait. I cancelled because I do not need the case, because I won't be getting the iPad 2.

But kudos to those all who are waiting. I'm sure it will be worth it.

I would give a word of caution on the Grove case.

I added a silicon case to my iPad2 this week after using it bare and it was noticeably heavier than before and can't wait to add a feather case now.

Yes, looks very familiar. I think I'll keep my Portenzo order in queue.

The thing that baffles me is you have 4 companies essentially doing the same thing, making hand-crafted wooden cases. Two essentially have unknown shipping dates, Dodo says 2-3 weeks but I really don't know what their situation is as I'm completely uninterested in their case, and the Octavo is already shipping!
How is Pad & Quill so far ahead of the game? Hopefully it's not due to lesser workmanship. Hopefully some members that have shipping notices give us a review soon.

Darin says Portenzo is 9oz, Grove site says it is 7....
Anyone know how much a smart cover weighs?

... Yeah I would hate to be those poor suckers.. glad I went with portenzo! ... oh wait...

dodocase has some reviews out about their ipad2 case.. especially on their facebook page.. it has a big gap at the binding.. supposely its designed that way so when it wears in it will work right.. lol

Wow, no word from the fine folks at Pretendzo yet?

Someone should call him up. I think they are based in St. Louis

Some guy got the wrong color and they are right on top of it to get him a replacement. That is why I am glad I went with the Octavo. I like to know there is someone on the other end of the phone taking care of business.

Would it make you feel better if we all said that we were canceling our Portenzo orders? I got my iPad on March 12th, and I ordered an Old School II on March 20th. Amazingly, my iPad has remained perfectly functional since the day I took it out of the box, despite not having a $60 case wrapped around it. Knowing that PayPal would be debited immediately, I chose to pay via credit card. I'm looking forward to receiving the case, as I have some upcoming travel plans, but I don't want it to be shipped until it is ready. If I wanted to buy a case based on earliest availability, then I'd have purchased that cheap looking Griffin Elan sitting next to the iPad display in Best Buy. Enjoy your Octavo!

+1

Did you have an ipad 1? If so what case did you use for that.

Here here! Totally agree, I don't want a halfa** product just to get it shipped as quickly as possible... Not saying that other products are, but I made my choice and I'm fortunate enough to wait.

This forum thead is so interesting to read! It's like a full Spanish Novela! Oh the drama!! :D

Lol...im keeping my order... But i may get another and see... My wife just told me she emailed too but hasnt got an answer..

You all confuse delay and ineptitude with ensuring quality. The ability to make a quality $60 case on time and while remaining in constant contact is what makes a quality product and customer experience.

This notion that delay and lack of communication = superior quality is a false premise that you have bought into. But do not try and disparage other case makers who are capable of producing a high quality product on time. Some folks actually plan before they sell to customers.

What with Pad & Quill you can only get one outside and a choice of 3 inside colours? They can make up a whole bunch of those puppies and just stick them in a box and mail them out.

You don't have an option for the magna cover, or elastic or both, stylus holder, tons of interior options...and you aren't getting a smart cover to boot. And it costs the same as the Portenzo without the smart cover feature. Plus you have 2 regular exterior options on the portenzo not to mention the white leather and the composition options....plus they have more options on the way for the ipad 2.

Plus...check this out.... scroll down on this page and take a look at the pictures of the interior of the case in the shot.

http://shop.portenzo.com/product_p/retro edition ipad case.htm
https://shop.portenzo.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=White_23-5_iPad_2_case
http://shop.portenzo.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Notebook-Style-iPad_2-case

Look at the rounded corners and how the interior is smooth. Look at how nice the camera hole is made. Not to mention, the quality of the ipad 1 appears to be the same as the same quality of the ipad 2.

When I got my composition for my ipad 1 the interior was smooth and tight not wrinkled. I will admit there were 2 small wrinkles that showed up the first week on the exterior front in the black binding area but after 4 months that is it..but no where as bad as what I see in the green one @ the link below...

Now go to this link and look at the close up of the interiors of this case.
http://padandquill.com/the-octavo-for-ipad2.html

Look at the corners.

If you compare Pad & Quill to their ipad 1 case to the Pad and Quill ipad 2 is not as good. They obviously rushed to get these out. I'm glad they are getting the business because it is a great alternative for those who can't wait and must have a book case right away.

I traveled with my Portenzo for the 4 months, it was in and out of the briefcase, tossed on airplane seats, used at hotel bars, airport bars. I carried with me to appointments without a bag I just grabbed my keys, purse, and Portenzo and went.

When I get home I'll post pictures of what 4 months of hard use on a portenzo composition for ipad 1 looks like. It held up like a champ. The only thing that didn't hold up is the sticker in the front of the composition.

At this point I really don't know what to think about Portenzo. I'm keeping my order and hoping for the best. However, there is another small company that makes similar cases, Treegloo. It doesn't get nearly the attention of Dodo, Pad & Quill, and Portenzo.

Their website, www.treegloo.com, wasn't taking orders for their Ipad 2 cover until yesterday, March 28th. I put in an order early (around 5am). By 7am, I decided I wanted to make a change, and e-mailed them about it. By early afternoon they had replied:

Updating your order will be no problem. Thanks for letting us know so quickly!

Order numbers get pretty messy, so we refer to all of our customers by name. ;-)

Just to verify, here is your updated design:

Device: Apple iPad 2
Frame Finish: Ebony with Accent
Accent: Red Suede
Cover Color: Killer Red (+)
Liner Color: Knight Gray
Liner Type: Cloth

Thank you,

Treegloo Products

By late afternoon I received the following e-mail:

I've read a few reviews from people who have their Ipad 1 cases and they are very good, but there aren't a lot of reviews out there. Their customer service has been excellent. I'm hoping for the best regarding the case itself.

I'm not a fan of the treegloo style case. And portenzo started out the same way, very niche, and now are obviously overwhelmed. Hopefully we still see quality products from them.

Their cases are SICK! They were my first choice but I ended up deciding on Portenzo for my ipad 1. I'd really like to see photos of posters who ordered from these guys. They could steal me away from Portenzo. :D The map of Chicago is a bonus in their favor for sure!!!!

I seen those before... I like the options.. But not so sure about the wood being multiple pieces glued or attached someway.. My wife likes the options though.. We are debating about i order a p&q and her order a treegloo.. Then wait for portenzo order..then make final choice.. I will review each on my youtube channel.. Unless we get some notice from portenzo

Why do you camp out in this thread to say what other companies are doing? Do you not see the thread title? Start a new thread or post in one already started about the company you ordered from. It's like you need other people to cancel their orders too to make you feel good about your decision. If you ordered a case from somewhere else and it shipped already, great. Nobody in the Portenzo thread cares. Your threadcrapping isn't needed.

Because I was duped into ordering a portenzo by the shills on this thread and then cancelled. It all flowed from there as to where I ended up ordering.

When you get your case let me know about it so i can see if it works with the ipad 3 I'll be using at the time
