iPhone Plans

I called att this morning, and they said they were not going to make people change their current plans. I have am part of a corporate plan, and the rep i talked to said that would work fine.
Not sure if a different rep would give a different story.

I called AT&T this morning to pay my bill, I have a business account with one user ( me), After I paid my bill, I asked about iPhone plans and if my business account was a problem. I was told they did not know what the plan pricing was yet but that they were not available to "Business" accounts.

After I paid my bill, he transfered me to another person why helped me convert my business account to a personal account. Same rate plan and no difference in cost to me. The only real difference was they now have my SSN instead of my Corporate Tax ID. Is this crazy? Better to take care of it now instead of it on Friday.

I must admit that I don't know much about Shawn King or Engadget. So, I guess we should take it with a grain of salt, eh?

I would. But that's just my opinion.. I used to listen to his podcast, I don't any longer..funniest part is up till Jan. he would say apple iphone rumors where fantasy.

as for Engaget, last month they posted a rumor Swearing that their inside source told them the iPhone was going to be delayed till Oct...

and when they retracted the statement and explained why they came to that conclusion, it was just laughable that they even printed it the first place seeing how many obivious holes the info had in it...

Hope someone can help me with this questoin:

They don't have EDGE where I live. Can I get the phone with no data plan and voice only? Then I could still use my wifi network for that in my house?

Thanks!!! Surely there are lots of people without EDGE right? I mean not lots, but a few ?

I'm sorry if this sounds blunt, but you know no one knows yet!

Updated Pricing Comparison

Okay, here's a revised pricing comparison *for new customers*:

T-Mobile: 1000 minutes (non-rollolver) + Unlimited Data & email = $60

Sprint: 450 minutes (non-rollover) + Unlimited Data = $55

Verizon: 450 minutes (non-rollover) + unlimited data = $80

At&T: 450 minutes (rollover) + unlimited data = $80

AT&T is not in the low tier range like Sprint & T-Mobile, but they're actually slightly better than Verizon if you account for the rollover minutes.

So you'd assume that the entire country would be using Sprint, but they're not. Wonder why? I switched away from Sprint due to poor voice coverge (even in LA!). I don't care how great your data plan is, if I can't make basic voice call at home or work then I can't use you network. I have no experience with T-Mobile. I've dealt with Verizon for land-line, internet stuff and their service and pricing is horrible.

Moral: AT&T data rates aren't the best, but that's not the only factor to consider.

So if we have an iPhone with a data plan, will we be able to pair it with a laptop via bluetooth and get online that way with the laptop?

True, but wasn't he dead on about the updated LED Macbook Pro's when everyone else was saying he was off base?

Perhaps. I stopped listening to him late last Jan. I thought Jay was a great balance to him and without Jay it's too much "Shawn", but that's just me and I think his wife is a great addition to the show.

ROFL, I didn't realize AT&T was such a ripoff until you posted that. Thanks :D

Makes me feel good about being on T-Mobile.

*shakes head*

Stop being ridiculous and comparing a fixed rate to my personal expenses each month. You simply CANNOT justify **** like this.

So what if I drop $250 on dinner, but wont agree to a $40 a month data plan. I enjoy my life, thank you.

We dont all camp out in our closets, buddy.

Sure you can. It is what it is.

You can't GET IT anywhere else at ANY price...its not going to change.

It is what it is. A MacbookPro is 2k. An Insprion is not.

And if the price isn't what you are willing to pay, then you aren't the droids they are looking for.

At the end of the day, its as simple as that.

I pay more than $100 month for my mobile already. I'm the customer. You aren't.

If you "would be...if only"...then you are a customer for a *different product*...see?

:)

I don't hate tmobile but the fact they are not going to carry the iPhone does not make me feel good though...

I'm T-Mobile for 4 more days then I'm outa here..

The $40/1000 min t-mob plan has a LOT more limitations on the minutes tho...and no rollover. People without rollover don't see the value of what they are missing; people with it are hard pressed to do without.

In my opinion, not giving me back minutes I didn't use is the biggest ripoff of all.

You should. Assuming Apple didn't disable the Phone as Modem feature. But it would be pretty slow.

Thanks! Sorry for the stupid question. I might just see what the Apple site lets me do on Friday then, or try the local store, I guess they would know if anyone, since they know we don't have edge. ha-ha.

That would be nice...but um, Apple has never stated it had PAN or any sort of DUN, and you won't know this until friday unless they care to divulge it before...the manual is not available on the FCC site until Saturdaay or MOnday I believe.

I wouldn't count on it. Not to say its not there, but if they haven't aid it, I wouldn't assume it to be the case, personally.

We're on a family plan with 700 minutes and use, like 200 a month, thanks to free nights and weekends and mobile to mobile. When we were on Stinkgular, we had accumilated thousands and thousands of rollover minutes that we never used. I couldn't care less about rollover. T-Mobile could have rollover, I wouldn't care. I still wouldn't use them.

I have a Qwest cellphone.Plain old phone.Just talk.$39.99+tax etc. a month for 500 minutes that do not rollover. And that is it..If I wanted a data plan to go along with it I'd have to upgrade to a better phone ( $199-$400 ) AND pay the extra money for a data plan..

This potential plan with AT&T seems like a good deal compared to what I have now.

I think the point is that 450 minutes with rollover ends up about the same as 1000 a month with no rollover, so when it comes to voice T-Mobile and AT&T are about the same value. It's only on data where T-Mobile has the obvious advantage (in terms of pricing at least: coverage is more of a personal thing).

how exactly would it be same? 450 with rollover equals to 1000/month? tell me your formula

I'm not sure how you come up with that!?! If you are using more than 450 minutes/month, there will be NO rollover minutes to begin with! And if you need more, the next plan at AT&T is $60 for 900 minutes without data, so $100/mo... Seems as though T-Mobile is definitely priced better (rollover or not...)

oops, I see Clevin beat me to it!

Rollover is one of those things where if you're usually using close to the number of minutes you have, you won't have much rollover at all. But if you have a ton of rollover, you never hit your limit and thus, never use rollover. Most people I know don't use all of their minutes one month and hardly any the next. You're either going to consistently have a ton of rollover minutes you never used, or no rollover minutes when you need them.

If I use 800 minutes a month, I'll be giving up 200 minutes with T-Mobile, or at AT&T for the same price, I'd have 350 minutes of overages, a huge bill, and no rollover minutes to carry over.

I'd really like to know what kind of world you live in where 450=1,000. Can I move there? My bank account would suddenly increase in value

The idea being that most people have variable monthly usage, not static. Obviously if you constantly use 900 minutes every month rollover won't help you. For most people, It's more like a few months out of the year you end up "going over" your minutes. Rollover eliminates this, and thus allows you to get away with a smaller plan per month.

When I went to AT&T I remember puposefully keeping my usage really light for that first month to build up a "savings". After that, every month I would accumulate extra minutes to the point that I could easily go crazy and use a 1000 minutes for a few months (even on a 450 plan) and still be fine. It makes much more sense than paying more for 1000 minutes a month when *on average* I use far less than that.

Obviously, what strategy you use depends on your usage. If you often have lots of unused minutes, but some months you don't, a rollover plan fits you perfectly.

Damn is that all you get with Cingular. What a joke... I have sprint right now with a 6700. EV-DO and unlimited text messaging (I didn't even know people still pay for text messaging by the text or have limits) for I think around 20 and I might have picture. But more importantly 100/month for 2500 anytime minutes, nights and weekends. - Family plan...

I thought for sure I wouldn't have to go over 60 for the iPhone but now... That would suck really bad.
