I really hope this rendering is incorrect, but I thought the same thing when the CAD renderings of iPhone 6 showed up around this time of year and those were spot on.
Really afraid this will be the real deal for the exact same reason.

Basically we're getting an iPhone 7 with an enlarged screen. Really nothing of interest tbh

Much like Apple stood their ground and refrained from putting out models with larger screens (and other different kinds of tech like, say, Bluetooth earphones) for quite a while until they got it right, I'd rather see them wait another year than going after the latest, greatest, newfangled thing just because “Samsung did it first” (what if Samsung got it wrong and came up with an overall uglier, less polished device regardless of its superior tech? Sure, that near bezel-less scree on the S8 looks cool, but its curved edges are stupid and useless as hell, the case looks ugly as sin – yes, it does… even though it's probably made out of metal, its finish feels plasticky and all the buttons and cutouts are, as usual per Samsung's “design language”, misaligned – and the fingerprint reader on the back is, to put it nicely, unfriendly). Give me an upgraded iPhone 7S (or even an upgraded iPhone 5/5S/SE-sized device, with a redesigned exterior case, upgraded internals and 3D Touch/Taptic Engine) over this (or a Samsung/Android monstrosity) any time of the day.
But how did Apple get large screen phones right exactly? To this day there are other phones that have better screen to body ratios. Getting it right would be saying we're not making a larger screen phone until we can do one that doesn't massively increase the overall size of the phone. Of course we know there was no way Apple could take that position as people would gone Android in droves...especially in Asia. Tim Cook can say Apple isn't first but they're the first to get it right but it's just marketing BS.

I doubt Jony Ive would approve of this. I don't think they're going to pursue this design.

God damn this is ugly.

This looks like something Tim Cook would approve. The iPhone 5 was the last iPhone design Steve was personally involved in. Even today it is the gold standard in smartphone design.

I agree with you a billion times over.

Samsung Galaxy S8 is bad design. I'm going by experience here having used an S7 Edge. Bad experience (accidental touches everywhere) but just looks great and the S8 will be no different. Like Steve Jobs once said design is more about how it "works" not just how it looks, the latter is exactly what the S8 goes by on and what it thinks (and many others think) is great design.

Even Jony Ive said it on the iOS 7 video "We have always thought of design as being so much more than the way something looks, it's the whole thing, the way something actually works on so many different levels. Ultimately of course, design defines so much of our experience". But I think he lost his touch ever since—a fingerprint scanner on the back ruins the experience of laying your phone on a table and unlock it there for example, plus is zero ergonomic for a lot of people.

is it me .. or the size showing from the CAD file (149.5 mm tall) is almost the same as the iPhone Plus .... But with less top and bottom bezel ...so I guess is more screen size then the current Plus model.
I was sure the iPhone 8 (from the rumors) was supposed to be the size of the 4.7in iPhone but with a bigger screen because of less top and bottom Bezels ...
Does this imply that an iphone 8 and 8Plus is in the works ?
OR ... is the rumor about apple Keeping the two size iphone 7 design with bumped up specs not good and Apple is going with only the iPhone 8 design with 2 sizes ?

Why do people hate curved edges so much? I bet it is the same crowd that hates the LED notification light idea...

The camera... vertical it looks just wrong, also still protruding?
If this turns out to be true (hopefully not) that is a no-buy for me

The vertical dual camera makes sense if you believe the rumors of there being a depth sensing camera array in the top bezel. That would require space and there will be less of it if dual camera was placed horizontally behind the top bezel.

Also with the bezels being so small you can no longer place the rear camera unit in the bezel above the screen as has been done on every iPhone thus far. It has to be placed behind the screen so maximum thickness will go up. Thicker phone, smaller bump or thinner phone and larger bump, either way maximum z will be higher.

why dont they just make the apple logo in the back the touch I.D sensor??? problem solved.....

10 pages of comments on a product that doesn't officially exist because....first world boredom.

As stated here much more eloquently in SJ's and Jony Ive's own words, good design is not about the way it looks (down to the actual structure of the product itself, including the body ratios you mentioned), but the way it works, which is just a different, more layman wording for Sullivan's motto, “Form follows function”. And a touch sensor on the back is an ergonomics nightmare for various reasons. You can no longer keep your phone on a desk and use it without constantly lifting it, you can't use Siri safely (and I mean both in terms of road safety and privacy, as “Hey Siri” capabilities without any kind of security check are an absolute nightmare) in a car that doesn't have CarPlay (I don't expect people to go out and buy new cars or Apple Watches just to be able to use something as basic as Siri, really, and neither should Apple… I do have an Apple Watch, but I know I'm in the minority here and I'm speaking for all the others who don't, too), you can't use a dust-proof case anymore (I absolutely, positively *hate* those 5S/6/6S/7 cases with Apple logo cutouts for that very reason), and even if most people's index fingers can rest on or near TouchID's rumoured location, what about those with smaller or bigger hands than the 5 or 95%ile? And it still means doing an awkward-to-hard gesture for everyone, instead of a simple touch/press on a visible (even if virtual *and* on-screen) button.

So, no, I don't give a damn about the screen-to-body ratio, and I'm sure the fact that I bought a discounted/clearance top of the line 64 GB iPhone 5S when the 6S was already out (let alone all the other cheaper Android devices with SD card slots and whatnot that have always been available since around the belated iPhone debut in my country) is a strong indicator of that (I still haven't upgraded to the SE, though; I'm still holding out for 3D Touch in a smaller package, as I've stated earlier). Besides, while on the subject of body size, having the screen extend all the way up to the edges, thin as OLED may be, only makes the whole camera bump, overall thickness and battery capacity worse, as it reduces the extra space for ancillary components. You can't really have your [iPhone] cake and eat it too.

Wow, you guys are very hypocritical. The S8 does not have the design of the S7 edge; totally different design and implementation. The S8 is highly believed to be the best phone design ever. Its sad that someone like yourself has bad things to say about a totally new design that you have no experience with at all.

I don't like the text and graphics warping as they fold over the edges. If the display itself was limited to the flat surface of the screen like the current model, I wouldn't mind as much.

This is just a rumor, this is just a rumor, this is just a rumor.... this is just a rumor.

I'll have to just keep reminding myself of that. Gadzeeks.

Provided the sensor is located at or around where the Apple logo is, it won't be an issue. Differently sized hands will hold the phone in different positions. For some reason, the Apple logo location will always be within comfortable reach.

Rear Touch ID is never going to happen like that. Don't worry. Move on with your day because this is nothing more than a silly rumor.

Nooooo. I make CAD drawings for a living so I can seeeee as others with "eyes" that the CAD drawing shows prominent fingerprint reader on the back as well a reposition of the flash.

Like I said; details matter.
Certainly mattered in making the iPhone 7 look so much nicer than the 6 series.
But it's a concept drawing. I can't remember the last Apple product that looked like a concept drawing.
