IS APPLE STILL A COMPUTER COMPANY?
I think it's all part of Apple evolving. Many people asked the same questions of my company when we diversified. They kept saying, "Aren't you guys just a phone company? Shouldn't you just focus on telephone service?" Meanwhile, we were becoming a full-fledged SP, with High Speed Internet, Digital TV over DSL, Home Security offerings, Home Networking solutions, Wireless solutions, you name it. If we would have just stayed as a "telephone company" we would cease to exist right now. All that being said, I agree, even if Apple is branching out and diversifying as they are, they still should make sure to focus on computers. And by dedicating an entire 2-hour keynote at WWDC a few months ago to the transition to Intel, I think Apple has defintely not lost focus in this respect. This move to Intel is one of the biggest things for Apple as of late, and guess what - it deals with their computers, not iPods.

Can Apple compete with this pace of hardware development when they switch to Intel?
I agree, this will be interesting to see. What's nice in the PC world, is if a new processor comes out, I can go out, buy it that day, and pop it in my machine. Same with a new hard drive, a new video card, etc. But with Apple's Intel architecture, will I still be able to do that, or will we still see a long time between upgrades? Will we be able to update the hardware in this manner instead of being at Apple's mercy, and instead be forced to buy a brand new system to take advantage of new technology?
