PowerBooks in the Pipeline?

damm so not fair, im just gonna go buy a G5 and a large backpack and carry that around. It probably weighs as much as the 17 inch powerbook and it will be a whole lot faster 
The iPod and the Powerbook have arrived! Hey, not updated, oh well, it's still ALL good I'm going off-line for a few hours, understandably, I hope...hehe

Whre are the Powerbook Up Dates!
I did the first week of my MBA with a POS Dell and XP crashed completely. I have been dieing to buy a Powerbook, but I have held off with the hope a new one will arrive soon. So where in the hell are they? Thats it... I am driving over to the Grove and picking up a 17" Powerbook today...

Not to mention how jealous everyone will be.
Oh wait, you'd have to get a LCD to lug around too. I'm sure it wouldn't take kindly to your backpack

Thats what the removable side cover is for.. just mount the lcd screen on the side. no problem.. you could even add a swivel mount like many of the digital cameras.. that way it can double as the new sidecover and tilt swivel to protect the screen...Originally posted by Hermione

Still, not a bad idea.
It means that people are continually reloading apple.com to see if there are any new PowerBooks, and the traffic is taking a hit on the server.
Thats what we are all doing - right ?
Maybe they update later. Maybe. But I don't think so. No updates today and maybe for this week.
But I just read in a mac magazine that they will update the LCD screens as well. We will see.

The article on ThinkSecret said they were trying to get them released by the end of the week. I don't know if that means, it could be next week, or it's definitely a day this week.
If it is 10 days form purchase and if you have held out from opening it no they wont charge you. But can you do it? Can you have the box of a brand new shiny power book without opening it... Can you?I wouldn't trust my self with that... it would be out of the box as soon as i stepped in the house maybe even inside the car.
AFAIK they do not charge a restocking fee, as long as the item is not opened. When the 3G iPods were released, I hastily purchased a 15GB, but returned it when I fould out that I could "upgrade" my current 5GB model to a 30GB at CompUSA for $170 via their TAP program. When I returned the 15GB to the Apple Store, I had to pay the restocking fee, because it was opened.

I've been thinking about switching for the past 2 weeks now.
Even headed down to the South Coast Plaza Apple store to purchase a 17in PB. My 2 main concerns were: what about my Windows apps and MS server management/network monitoring of my lab? Can the Virtual PC really run Windows 2000 Server or Professional on this 17'' monster comfortably? There has to be lag. Altho my concerns were not answered at the mac store, I am extremely impressed with the features included in this 3K box. After finding my way to his website, my stress levels have shot thru the roof. I need a laptop for school/work and with the talks of maybe this or I heard that, it's really fonked me up.
Guess I'll just stick to my Compaq 12XL505 (P3 750 w/ 3XXRAM (no sound/no battery) for now. Maybe I'll just forget about this website and a mac for now and comeback 3 months down the line to discover that speed bumps and extra bells and whistles (up'd G4, new G5, whatever) have been implemented. Or I could just disappoint myself more and more from monitoring this thread minute after minute hoping apple throws me a crumb.

Yeah, they did with the G5 I think. Some of the sites were mentioning Thursday or Friday (some meeting is on Thursday?).

Dosen't matter now. If I needed one early, I needed it three weeks ago. Now I might as well wait until they're upadated. Although at this rate maybe I should just wait for a G5 in (you'd think) January?

Stop talking about G5s coming out. I want to be happy with the G4 I'm buying within the next week--whenever they update it.
Well by that don't you think that you are going to subject your self in another torture like the one you are putting it right now? Just imagine that January comes and the G5 PBs are not there and you are going to hung out on rumor sites hoping they will any time now and they dont and again and again and then when? maybe in the summer maybe not ... I believe that people that think like that put themselves in such a situation willingly. Of course you can wait but don't get disappointed if Apple does not release G5s on January. I would suggest you buy a new laptop when you need it. If you need one now get one of the current line up. If you can wait a bit more wait till you can't any more and then buy what is available. If you can wait for another year no prob and you would want a G5 wait as long as you can. Buy a laptop when you need it. Cause if you just want it without needing it and you keep postponing it you will never buy one cause you will always think they are late to come...
