That would be good to get the new rev b's out quickly. Although why add them into the promotion when they still need to get rid of old stock. That is unless they techniclly run out of the old stock and are forced into selling the new revs. Although i don't think that they will sell out of the rev A G5's anytime soon. But heres hoping to a March 23'rd buying spree.

March 23rd buying spree is right! I've been waiting since mid December, like many others.
It was MWSF first. Then end of Jan. Then Feb. Now March 23rd. Once they open the gates of G5-Land it's going to be insane!

Well I think it might be a week later, the 30th, so don't dispair too much if nothing happens on the 23rd

March 23rd is the focal point of lots of ads, rather should I say
thru March 22nd
then March 24th and thereafter.

You may be right, aswitcher, but there are just too many signs that the Catalog stores are expecting a whole new ball game for "deals" after midnight March 22nd = March 23rd. They are dumping all their G5 & G4 PowerMacs and Cinema Displays using discounts and giveaways.

I still think that those who are waiting for Tuesday will be disappointed. 10.3.3 wasn't released until last Monday. Given that the new PMs will come with 10.3.3., I'm sure Apple needs more time to have all the recovery DVDs pressed and to create software images. Even if they used build 7F43 instead of 7F44 (I don't know if 7F44 is any different from 7F43), it's just doesn't seem feasible. So, March 30 is the day.

You are off base. The HT bus is not the memory buss. The HT bus is the interconnect between the processor and the system controller. The memory bus is between the system controller and the memory, and its speed is independent of the HT speed.

Great. I got Opteron and PowerPC 970 wires crossed. My Bad.

Announcing them and shipping them are not the same thing. If I remember right people waited for their original G5s for some time

I'm aware that announcing and shipping are not the same thing. I don't know how much time it takes to have the DVDs pressed. If they can't get the PMs ready to ship by March 30, they might announce them on March 23. Otherwise, if PMs were ready to ship by March 30, wouldn't it be better to wait and announce them with imediate availability?

This is true. And even if they are "available right now", they won't ship for at least a couple of weeks to allow them to be built. My RevB Albook was available right away, but it still was built and that took some time.
As far as CD's go- how long do you think it takes a multi billion dollar company to pump CD's? They can poop them out like a goat in a grassy field!

Yes, Apple always announces their products at least some time before they go "gold". But I guess it doesn't mean that much to people here on the board.

If Apple announces the new PowerMacs and their specs, the rumouring for the rev PowerMacs is over, pre-ordering can begin, and within a couple of weeks, the first lucky one's will be enjoying their fresh, spanking, powerful G5 computer.

So if they announce something on the 23rd or the 30th, products won't ship before mid april I presume. But I wouldn't mind waiting 2 more weeks.
At least I know what specs I bought, I know they ARE coming. And those 2 extra weeks don't mean that much to me, as i'm already waiting a couple of months (i am or will be a switcher :))

As far as making the dvd's with the software, well, that won't take more than a week for a company like Apple. I work at a small multimedia company, and when we need to "print" dvd's or cd's it only takes a week for an amount of 2000 cd's. I can imagine Apple having huge contracts with some company. So their cd's, dvd's, packaging etc. won't take long to be ready. (Packaging can be made in advance)

One thing is for sure, sometime next month, i'll be one happy switcher!

This might be a stupid question, but I'm still new to world of Macintosh. Does that mean, that Apple announces a new Revision (not a new product) without having one single machine in stocks?

YES, sometimes, like G5, there is waiting.
Especially, European market can be weeks or months behind DELIVERY priority given to USA market - home base preferences.
Remember 1st 1100 G5 2GB duals went to Virginia Tech and even students had to wait well into Sept - Oct 2003 to get their pre-orders?
Which is worse, the Anticipation or the waiting?

That is one of those six of one and half a dozen of the other questions. Although with the anticipation it seems longer. Once the announcement is made of an actual product, then you know what you are actually waiting to receive.

Why?

Why not starts @ 2ghz for the lower end model? why 1.8 and 2.2??

2.0ghz single
2.2ghz dual
2.4ghz dual

no kidding and these arent new models they are just new cpu's in the same cases with minor revision. Apple will announce these things and they will be available the same time. lets hope they come with a matching keyboard this time.

Yep, a new keyboard would be nice. Maybe one with the Function keys marked with their Expose actions. I would happily pony up for backlit, although I'll probably end up going wireless so that's not going to happen for me. I wonder if they made a USB 2.0 plug in keyboard whether they coudl support a Firewire and a USB port on the keyboard...

I always though it would be cool for Apple to sell an Aluminum fiber optic backlit keyboard kinda like the PowerBook Keyboard only a full sized 108 key keyboard. And yes put USB 2.0 ports on the keyboard. I don't think FireWire would work too good on a keyboard. I wouldn't think it would be very reliable.

I think that Apple needs to ship a mouse to matches it also. The white optical mouse that ships with it doesn't really match. The graphite mouse would of been better suited for the PowerMac G5. Maybe the black keyed keyboard would of been better for the PowerMac G5 too.

I'd like to see PowerMacs in all dual models from 2.2 to 2.5 GHz. Thats leaves room a G5 iMac upgrade without having to distinguish been a PowerMac G5 and a G5 iMac. You could then make a 1.6 and 1.8 GHz iMac, possibly even a 2.0 GHz iMac, but that wouldn't really be necessary at this point. Going from a 1.25 GHz G4 to a 1.6 GHz G5 is good enough for a high end consumer level machine and keeping the prices the same. If they do this, then they can update the eMac to a faster G4 to say like 1.25 GHz, maybe even using the new 200 MHz FSB and DDR memory for the same prices.

The G5 announcement was a new product launch -- this is a simple speed bump. I would expect any new G5s to be available "instantly" -- meaning normal delivery times. If, on the other hand, there are major changes to the G5, like new DVD writers, or other major changes, then you might see a small delay.

This is why I think they will release on the 30th -- this gives them another week to get 10.3.3 into the machines, receive enough chips, etc.

But we'll see.

Well the smart thing would be for Apple to bring out the new G5PM range, with the new screens, with new keyboard and a new mouse (with touch pad thanks) -> a whole of line make over. That would impress.

Likely this won't happen. Plus new keyboard and new mice and good give aways at the WWDC - like iSight was last year iirc.

Black would be a good choice but a metal look keyboard with full sized keys looking like a powerbook keypad would be pretty spectacular. Backlit. Special Expose keys. Sound controls. Wired and Bluetooth models. Rechargeable if bluetooth from USB which allows use when battery low! Take all those PC keyboard gimicks and powerbook special keys, and produce a professional and functional keyboard no G5 user would be without. It might be priocey (its apple after all) but it would be very fine.

I've got the original small Imac keyboared hooked up to a 3 gigahertz Dell. I prefer it because I have Cerebral Palsy & I type with a head stick. I can't afford a new G5 model, because I live on Social Security $878.55 a month, so I'm hoping for an Imac update. If not I'll get the cheapest G5model. Any suggestions willl be helpful.

I dont know how well it works but they do have voice commands for mac.( via voice?) anyways you may want to research that also what do you use your mac for? maybe you dont need all the cost associated with a G5. maybe a refurb model. I think if Apple comes out with a G5 Imac it wont be cheap. has Apple ever made a cheap anything? not that i can remember.your 3 ghz Dell is going to make any mac feel slow.

New G5s are strongly rumored for months end...so if you wait you might get a bargain on an older machine making it more affordable. If you don't need a new screen this would be also true when compared to the imacs when they put a G5 chip in them...which could be anytime...some suspect June/July WWDC as a release date/place...

G5iMac won't be cheap and won't compete with a 3ghz dell I dont think BUT its OSX which has strong attractions for stability.

If you use special software or interfaces with your illness you'll of course need to make sure they work with Apple OSX...

The new OSX 10.4 (out when???) will have that spoken support built in which may be of some use to you... I am not sure if they are building in other features to support disabled access ontop of what is already there...

My MacBuddy GLENN is in pretty much the same boat as you are. He has automated just about everything he can think of, and we are setting up an iSight and iChatAV which he likes because of the AUDIO. Almost everyone has AUDIO if they have an iBook or PowerBook. Great way to communicate.
His hands are curled up but he still prefers to use the keyboard and hold a trackball instead of a mouse. We've been thinking of starting a MacACCESS club. Are you interested?

We would look into computer programs with automated telephone and Address Book on Mac OS X (was available on OS 9), and all kinds of "ACCESS" issues.
