I stopped using my i4 (but kept it for development use). My 3gs works great. Trying to decide whether to return my wife's. I doubt Apple will refund our iMovie purchase....

no. don't think about it. just return it.

Wow, so you guys did both things I suggested not doing. Posted another article about the same issue and included the deleting forum post threads on Apple Support Site. Kudos. And amazingly I am here again posting yet another comment.

and the company must respond with a more meaningful fix than a software patch.

So something more than the CEO saying it's a "non-issue" or to "stay tuned".

They really need to do something about this. Steve Jobs being the vocal frontman isn't doing them any favours at the moment.

Free Bumper or Voucher For $30

I can't imagine that we'll see a recall of the iPhone 4. I can imagine that Apple, backed into a corner, may eventually offer all purchasers of the phone a free Bumper, or voucher for $30 to purchase their own case, or maybe even a $30 refund off the purchase price.

There are too many folks who are satisfied with whatever case they've already bought, or who are happy with their iPhone 4 for other reasons, to make a recall likely. But first and foremost, there are still many, many people on priority lists and with outstanding online orders, who are going to go ahead and buy the phone despite all the uproar and potential issues. They'll be figuring THEIR phone will be fine. As long as people are voting with their wallets, Jobs will let the market speak. IMHO, it's possible he won't say or do much of anything else, beyond the software "fix" already announced.

I understand why people are angry. I don't feel it's right that I should HAVE to use a case in order to make the thing function as it should without one. I've placed and canceled several online orders, and have even briefly owned an Evo, trying to make up my mind which way to go. At the moment, I'm on the priority list at two Apple Stores. I'm telling myself I can always not go get it when notified. But I probably will go. Because MY phone won't have these reception issues, I would've put a case on it, anyway, and even CR said that, antenna problems notwithstanding, this is the cream of smartphones . Damn. Sure hope my proximity sensor works.

I can reproduce signal reduction on every since device I own when I touch the antenna.

So I don't see what the fuss is all about.

Agreed... don't see what the fuss is all about. I cannot reproduce the signal loss. I've tried squeezing the phone the way CR did, and to no avail, I got full bars.

I've asked 4 other people that I work with and that bought their iPhone 4 at different times (first day, first week, just received through mail), and they also can't seem to either replicate the problem, or notice a signal loss.

Seems like the issue might be isolated to a batch of phones or a production run, therefore not necessitating a massive recall.

I think there's a bit of drama created by the media here...

A fix has not even been issued by Apple yet and already people are climbing over themselves to force a recall. I think people should give Apple a little time to fix this properly before calling for such a drastic action.

Why Not? So if you got your new macbook pro home and when you used the mouse pad your wireless stopped working you wouldn't want a recall? oh, and all 2 million devices sold were affected. Would you accept apple saying, go out and buy our $60 magic mouse.
There will be a recall, since this design flaw is so wide spread!
I will keep mine until a recall is issued, or I will use my applecare policy to get a new device....soon (not worried about the 30day return policy).
This is by far the best phone out there!:apple:

I've seen zero evidence (one way or the other) as to how 'widespread' the issue is.
Churn on forums such as this is not such evidence.

You can tell its Summer all the kids are out.

On a serious note. We have about 300 iPhone 4s in our environment and we have about a 35% fail rate with the reception issue, and 10 have the yellow screen.

2 words. RETURN IT.

what? you can't return them? oh yeah maybe because you're full of **** that's why! 300 iphone 4's hahahahha

these Android trolls make me laugh.

cmon people.... really?

why does this only happen to whomever is on top? this is a great phone, with great engineering behind it. i have had all 4 phones and this by far is the best one yet. i have had no reception problems, no glass issues, in fact this seems to have the toughest shell on it yet.

if you have a problem with your individual phone, go to the apple store, they will take care of your needs, trust me. my signal on my iphone4 is stronger than the on my 3GS and my battery lasts throughout the whole day. i love it, so much i sold my ipad because i wasn't using it anymore!

just relax, enjoy your phone and go to the store with any questions or concerns.

PR DISASTER. smh

Apple's lucky another handset manufacturer doesn't do some sort of "Hi, I'm an ____"..."And I'm an iPhone" comparison campaign like their PC/Mac campaign. THis antenna issue would be ripe for ridicule in that commercial! (Microsoft must have a little schadenfreude right about now.)

I returned my iPhone 4 and they tried to charge me a restocking fee. I finally got out of there with my full refund. I also emailed Apple and got a refund for iMovie. Ill just wait until the smoke clears. My 1st gen iPhone is still perfect.

The HTC Evo is junk? Okay partner. I own an iPhone and can say that the HTC Evo is a pretty impressive device.

It sucks, i bought one. App store blows, battery life is abysmal, crashed/froze/hung constantly. Not to mention it looked like i was holding an iPad up to my face when I was talking.

Returned it for full refund, thanks for nice return policy Sprint.

I can say that my iPhone does lose reception if I place my finger on the lower left side. Most of the time I don't do that, but it does if I do.

I typically hold my iPhone in my left hand as I talk to people while I use the right hand to control my computer. With the Original iPhone and iPhone 3GS, this was not an issue. Now with my new iPhone 4, I have to use a bumper - or the person on the phone will complain they cannot hear me or that I'm breaking up.

This has nothing to do with packing my finger in a certain zone or signal indicators or whatnot that Apple says is the issue. I'm getting attenuation to the point of interference when I hold my phone in a normal manner.

I agree, BUT ...

I also think Apple could have nipped this P.R. nightmare in the bud if they offered everyone a free case as a work-around.

There was an initial outcry for free bumper cases and Apple went so far as to send out a letter to Apple store personnel instructing them NOT to ever do this for a customer.

That was penny-wise but pound-foolish, IMO, because a bumper case would effectively eliminate the problem in all known situations, and people usually want a protective case for their phones anyway.

Now, they just look like the "bad guy" with these claims that "the attenuation isn't really as bad as people think, since our signal strength bars aren't displaying accurately enough" and offering a software fix for THAT side-issue as their only current "solution".

Prediction: No recall
Reason: All antennas attenuate when held.

Leave the problem as is = Brand image hit

Recall and fix the problem = Brand image hit

However doing the recall will make people forget about the problem moving forward and Apple can easily recover from the hit in their image. Leaving it as is will just make this problem snowball further and people will continue to talk about it.

Love the Apologists

They tell you to return it when 1) there are things you won't get back, and 2) AT&T still is not waving the restock fee as policy (and no you can't expect returners to have to beg whine or threaten to get it waived).

And those that compare it to not putting your finger on the camera lense - if they have put the camera lense in the same place they put the 'shorting' area that would be considered a design flaw too.

They don't necessarily need to do a total recall of the product, but give options - many would be happy with a bumper, many would be happy with a free Ghost Armor-like plastic coating, many are happy with their phones just they way they are (as we see here). And the very particular could be given a full refund and a discount on the 'fixed' version when it arrives as compensation.

Apple still has time to fix this, but its running short.

iPhone 4 owners not happy with the phone, return it.

Android fanboys, the iPhone 4 is still better than your phone.

Until you try to use it as a phone. Of course, though, who actually makes calls on their PHONE?! Who actually expects a device to work properly out of the box? Not an Apple product! No way!

Come the hell on people. This is Apple and not Dell. They design GOOD products that work. This product is way out of the norm for Apple. People here defending it have some major issues they need to resolve with themselves. A flaw is a flaw, and it should be fixed. Apple's reputation for making great products is on the line.

People saying that there will be no recall are just speculating, and poorly at that. There will be some kind of action to remedy this by Apple, but it is obviously not going to be soon enough to be in their 30 day return window.

I will suggest people return it, or request replacements from AppleCare until their phone is actually fixed.

OK, so your iPhone 4 experience may ending up costing you $4.99...

Come on, let us not do the numbers. Fanboys can handle something so complex

Your trolling grows tiresome. Are you incapable of posting a single comment that doesn't include the term "fanboy" or "Steve Blowjobs?"

You should have waited. iPHone 4 owners are going to get something free :), you probably will not.
