Hello and advice
Hey Everyone...been lurking for a long time, just joined...
I am starting my third yr of medical school in august and we need a PDA for the drug indexes, etc. I have decided on the iphone although I will miss verizon....
few questions here since I dont want to start a thread just for little ol me...
1. Do I cancel verizon that day (June 19th)? How do I keep my number?
2. Any benefit to ordering through apple online, going to the apple store on june 19th or going to the ATT store?
3. I have a Fan code through my school...I think I get 7% off. Any other discounts I should be aware of? Codes? etc?
4. I remember there was a thread here that gave people credit on their
accounts if they refer, get referred? possibility with new iphone/att plan?
5. Best case? I am looking to have a nice case as I drop things, maybe one that I can clip onto scrubs when needed...

As an ex-programmer it is possible that the problem is on Apple's side and they are not handling family txt plan info correctly. But it is probably AT&T issue
So I placed my order on Apple.com for 32gb black one to be delivered to my house, but for some reason I have gotten 4 emails all saying the following:

I did none, because I am on a $30 family text unlimited plan. If you are a singleton, then you might as well select the $20 unlimited.

Just make sure no one is texting during the time you remove the texting plan to be safe.

Don't cancel with Verizon yet. I am in the same situation and you need to keep your contract open in order to transfer your number. I called Verizon this past weekend and they said when I go to get the iPhone, that will initiate the number transfer process (you will tell Apple/ATT that you want to port your number when purchasing the iPhone). As part of this number transfer process, you will be breaking your contract with Verizon and be forced to pay whatever early termination fee applies to you.
So basically when you buy the iPhone and choose to port your number it will effectively take care of cancelling your Verizon contract.
thanks shoebobs...I have been out of contract for a year or two so I wont be paying anything but I guess I will wait till the 19th...

These are very good questions. I completed my order about 15 to 20 minutes ago and have yet to receive any emails concerning my order. I really do hope we do NOT have to go to an Apple store to have the phone activated.
Again, where do I change shared texting? And if I do, will I be able to get my plan back? I currently have a plan that seems better than any offered - first line 59.99 for 850 minutes, additional lines 9.99. I have a feeling unlimited texting came with it.
Well now that I finally got past the whole family texting plan debacle, I'm still not able to order online! After I get passed the rate plan page that ask that I go to a store... 120 miles away to set up my phone? Hello? Is there anyway I can just order the phone online like everyone else?
