Preordering iPhone 3GS on Apple.com

No confirmation mail yet, but it shows up on my account when i go to the apple store and look at order status.

FOUND IT!!! BUT DO I ORDER "NO TEXTING" while in the apple store process, then go back to ATT to add it back? Please tell me quick!

OMG! I love you!! HAHA! I should have remember this from when I picked up my 3G at the AT&T store last summer... the guy had to do the EXACT same thing in the store (remove texting and re-add)... I remember he even put a note about it in the account so AT&T corporate wouldn't question it! Stupid AT&T! :D

Some states require the sales tax on the full purchase price (so $699 for the 32GB), not the subsidized price. Same thing happened with the 3G phones last year.
 
How are some of you getting the 199-299 price. I got my 3g on launch day and its saying i have to pay 399-499

So, I had a problem with the website even though all of info was golden (Using my mother's account, she has been with AT&T since 1997, her credit with them is fine) and it was still screwing up. I decided to go ahead and go to the AT&T Store and have a human do it for me. I had to call AT&T Customer Service to become an "authorized user," but after that I just swiped my credit card and was good to go AND I can get it at 7AM on the day and don't have to wait for DHL. I have my receipt.

It was 8:40 PM when I went in there, and no one had bought one yet. Go to the AT&T store and reserve one, it's way better than waiting for the ISPs to get their **** together.

Or better yet just limit production like MS did for the xbox launch to generate hype?

Yes, you should receive an email from order_acknowledgment@orders.apple.com with the Subject: Apple Store Order Acknowledgment XXXXXXX ( where your order number replaces the x's )

Not true because mine says i qualify on the 12th of july which is 1 year from when i got my 3g. my wifes on the other hand was bought the same day as well yet hers says not eligible till march 2010. So somethings not right.

Your 3G was subsidized. You can't get another subsidy until you're eligible again.

Interesting. I have a 2G, I had a FAN discount and bumped my text messages to 1500...

I've since removed the FAN discount and moved back to the standard 200 text plan and I'm still hitting the "AT&T was unable to set up your account online. To reserve your new iPhone, click the Continue button" screen...

Been on hold for an hour... got excited when I saw this fix, but didn't work for me. Thanks for sharing, regardless.

You got a vastly reduced price on your iPhone 3G because you agreed to two years of service and two years (or 22 months) of non-eligibility for another discounted handset upgrade. Simple.

You think it has something to do with what phone is the primary one on the account?

I'm not eligible for upgrade until 3/2010 and my iPhone number is the 9.99 add line...My uncle got his phone last july and his iphone number is his primary and he is eligible on 7/17/09
 
Thanks to whoever posted this tip!! I took off shared texting, was able to order both the primary and secondary lines on our family plan DELIVERED (not that bull-crap reserved that's not really reserved), then go back and add back our shared texting. (I do not have a FAN discount, fyi)

I hope nothing got messed up with ATT billing, and that's what I supposed to do!

I have to say that charging the full tax of $55 on a $199 subsidized phone is thievery, though. Don't remember that ever being the case before.

Thank you Natasha! My 32GB iPhone3GS has been ordered.

I love how I got this all worked out now. I used my wife's upgrade and then she gets my 3G. This way every year I get the latest and she gets my year old phone. Since she doesn't really care it works out PERFECT!

How are you planning on activating it for your number even though it was ordered on hers? I ask because I did the exact same thing...
