So I ended up just going back and ordering it online anyway.

Will we need to go to an AT&T or Apple store to activate it like before? I waited in line for the original one and didn't keep up with all of the changes to the activation they did for the 3G.

here's the key guys. go to www.att.com. Login to your master account.

REMOVE the shared texting plan. Remove all texting plans altogether.

Now go to the Apple store and order. You should be good to go. Once complete, log back in and set it back up.

It's ATT's fault. They are throwing an error because they did not code for a shared plan of texting so it locks the account (you can't change the texting plan if the other accounts want to use it).

Anyway, happy ordering...
 
Anyone know if I will be able to keep my FAN text plan? I added the TMB9 code to my fan account which is 750 texts for like $8

no idea if your FAN will still apply. you can always reapply it after the fact by revalidating or calling ATT customer support. all i know is this method worked.

I'm going to try the texting trick. But want to know what option to choose before I proceed.

1. Call AT&T tomorrow to make sure my FAN is reapplied to my Family Unlimited Texting

2. Find out if this will actually get here on the 19th!

natasha a great big thanks. I was able to order 2 phones for our family plan then I turned back on the family messaging plan at the at&t site.

Had the run around today with Apple Online and phone stores. What they told me is that reserving it at the Apple Store is NOT guaranteed in any such way as it states in the fine print.

However, going to an AT&T store and doing a pre-order with them IS guaranteed as you are paying for the phone. So it will be there on the 19th at 7am for your pickup.

The major issue I had was that I went to get two phones (family plan) and they told me my wife needed to be there, I could only get one phone. So that sucked, but oh well, got our iphones (16 & 32).

did anyone reserve one at the store, or did everybody order them to be shipped? I chose to reserve at the store, but it never asked for payment, just said thanks for reserving, see you at the store.

If that's all it does, what's the point of doing it? They probably won't guarantee stock for you unless it's already been paid for.
