at first i was told it would cost $699 although i haven't signed a contract with ATT since 02 so i knew that was wrong. 7 minutes on hold with ATT and i got an answer/got it straightened out. went back, filled out everything again on Apple's site and that was that.
have no clue what's taking so long for all you people

How long did it take you to order?
 
It just took me 5 minutes to order my 32GB model, and they still promise to have it here on launch day. I can't wait!

yea it seems if you pre-order for store pickup it says at the bottom:

"Please be sure to pick up your iPhone before close of business on June 19, or it will be returned to general inventory."

So, that's pretty definite they will keep one there for you, and you can just walk in on June 19th and pick it up..
 
Has anyone with a FAN account been able to order online? I keep getting the error when trying to order online (after rate page) and I had issues last year with the 3G due to my corp account. I don't wanna keep trying if FAN accounts cannot order online.

Okay. I'm confused. Are those prices available for you now, or are they when you reach the 12/09 date?
 
Were you replacing an existing phone with an iPhone? I have no idea why some people get through instantly and some of us have to try 200 times.

Based on this forum I'd say it's completely random, dumb luck.
 
I just left an ATT store and pre-ordered it there. They said that they are opening early (7am) on the release date and only letting in pre-orders until 9am.

I bought the 16gb, but now I'm considering changing it to the 32gb!? I use my nano at the gym, so I cant see what I would need 32g's for....

FAN and family plan and I can't order one :( Frustrating. I don't want to wait in line next week, I just want it shipped to me, lol.
 
I know the AT&T site isn't up yet (who knows when that will happen), but do they take orders over the phone?

I stood in line for both previous versions and Im wishing they were doing that again now. :p

Is it the FAN and Family Plan combo? I've got a family plan... is that what's giving the error?
 
I dont think anyone knows what is causing the error and if continuing to try will work eventually.

I have a FAN and Family plan and I was able to order one, just took a long time.

The error is not because of your FAN or Family Plan, the website is just screwed up (for now at least).

If you bought or reserved a 32gb 3GS today...what did it cost you AFTER tax??

I was able to pre-order for my husband, who is not on our family plan, but not for the rest of us, who are. We are all eligible for the subsidized price.

Has ANYONE who IS on a family plan gotten to preorder? And if so, for both phones, the primary, or a non-primary?

By the way, in case anyone was going to ask, I have 2 iPhones on my Family Plan. I've tried the online ordering process with both the primary and non-primary number and both do not work.
 
Confirmed with Apple that the 3GS cannot be ordered online if you have a Family Plan or FAN or anything other than an individual plan. However, preregistration can be done and then phone is to be picked up in store. Rep is checking to see if it is a guaranteed hold for the day or not.

Apparently their internal systems are down so no AT&T or Apple rep can process orders. Seems like they should have expected this issue - sound familiar in June of 2007 or 2008 a la Activation?

I have 3 phones, 2 are iPhones. I tried all 3 numbers, can't get through with any of them.
