With new iOS software updates, Apple has been automatically turning Apple Intelligence on again even for users who have disabled it, a decision that has become increasingly frustrating for those that don't want to use Apple Intelligence.

Just updated from 15.3.1 -> 15.3.2, it did NOT re-enable Apple Intelligence. Just the same as many comments in this thread have said.

MR may want to rewrite that scary headline and lede to something accurate, like "for some users," because wow.

EDIT: Apologies for my confusion, I was reading this thread (about iOS) and the other thread (about iOS, iPadOS and MacOS updates) at the same time, and added this comment to the iOS thread in error. BUT my iPadOS and iOS updates also did not turn Apple Intelligence on after having them turned off before. Same result on Mac Mini M2 Pro and MBA M3. Was disabled before update, remained disabled after update.

It's the exact same thing with Bluetooth on my iPhone. If I turn it off, then leave it off until I re-enable it, don't turn it on again automatically the next day.

I'm getting really tired of this "we know better than you" attitude, they're getting almost as bad as Microsoft every passing year.

Wonder why it enabled for some but not others? It didn't enable for me, and it didn't the previous time either?

Weird.

Have you ever enabled Apple Intelligence and then disabled it? Or have you definitely left it off the entire time? (I'm just curious...)

For example, I actively turned on Apple Intelligence to try it in the days following the initial release (non-beta), then I turned it off. It hasn't yet been reenabled against my will.

I wish people would switch over to Android instead of just talking honestly, if people are truly that upset, then they should send a message to Apple and leave

If nobody complains, Apple will never know why they're losing those users.

And it's not like the alternatives are any better, so complaining about the fact that our best option is getting worse is the only thing we can do.

As many have said before, the first time, I thought it was an honest mistake. But now…

If Apple can switch things on and off on my devices at will, how can I trust their privacy promises? As a loyal customer, I’ve lost all trust in Apple in the last few weeks. This is unacceptable!

What’s next? Blocking me from typing criticism about Tim here on Macrumors by disabling my keyboard?
Dont be so dramatic.

It didn't turn AI on for me.

Exactly I would say good 50% of people on here complain but don’t do anything about it
Can't you see that Apple may be overall the best option for some people despite the fact there is plenty they don't like about it and/or they don't like the direction it is going in? Complaining and calling Apple out where merited might bring about some change, whereas carrying on like Apple is perfect and can do not wrong won't?

They do this with the game center too. Incredibly annoying practice. Maybe when there’s a meaningful upgrade to it and it’s not useless, but right now it’s much more annoying than helpful.

I tried it for a couple days at the beginning, then enabled it again a couple weeks ago for several days.

Because, despite all the complaints and accusations on here, it’s most likely a bug.

No, it’s not. If it was a bug I wouldn’t have been forced through an enable Apple intelligence screen after the update with no option to decline it other than turn it off in settings afterwards.

That’s plainly “you’re getting this. It’s good for us (and you maybe)”.

It’s not even a dark pattern it’s being an *******.

Remember how the original iPhone would re-add a bookmark to AT&T's website in Safari with every update, even if you already deleted it? I always wondered how much AT&T paid Apple to do that.

Literally if it’s a bug, then yes you’d have to go through the setup screen.

Not everything is a conspiracy. The fact that it isn’t happening to everyone strongly points to the idea that it’s a bug.
