Huh? Even if you updated to 11.0 or 11.1, you'd be ok.
I sorta figured as long as went no further than 11.0.x I would be good and when it jumped to 11.1 I did not update phone thats all I did. Obviously I can update to 11.1 and restore the X from that but was hoping to us update from my backups of 11.0.2 & .3 I have archived in iTunes thats all I was saying

Not really sure with iTunes, I don't use that anymore unless I have to (which is never XD)

My 7Plus 256 has some 70 Plus GB of music and other, I won't pay Apple to store beyond 5 GB in cloud, plus prefer to have my backups local and under my control

GDI. I knew this was going to happen, so I explicitly removed the beta profile from my i7+. Even though I had the profile removed, the darn thing upgraded to 11.2 beta the other night.

Yes to avoid that happening I turned autoupdates of OS and apple software off worked has not updated to anything. Trying to get me to do 11.1

You'll pay a premium of several hundred dollars for more physical storage (256GB), but won't pay 99 cents for more iCloud Storage?

What's not known about this? Those who install betas are told to create a backup before so that it could be used if needed. They are also told not to do it on their primary devices. All of these types of things are known.
Everyone knows that the "public" beta testers are just impatient users who want all the new stuff. I doubt many (myself included) keep a back up of a prior iOS. My one complaint would be that Apple should not try to entice the update to each beta iteration by prompting you to update as soon as a new beta comes out, with no mention of the fact that the X won't be compatible.

I can understand that sentiment, and it has nothing at all to do with money; it's the same reason that I still keep my iPhone backups on my iMac at home. The storage on my iMac... is mine. Nobody else has any control over it. Nobody else can take it away from me or snoop on it, without either entering my home or hacking my computer.

It just feels more secure, that's all.

I don't know what kind of side effects this has, but I went into my latest 11.2 backup from my iPhone 8+, edited the Info.plist file and towards the bottom changed:

<key>Product Version</key>
<string>11.2</string>

to

<key>Product Version</key>
<string>11.1</string>

and was able to successfully restore the backup onto my X.

Hope this helps.

How do you find the latest backup file?

Nope I want my files with me not on a cloud somewhere when it is down and I need it so I still store my backups in iTunes on my Mac. I have so many of these .99 things, $7.49 for Office 365, and so on and so forth I stopped paying for putting my files somewhere else other than local control. Reminds me too much of old computer days when files were stored somewhere else not under my control ;-). Thats more the issue and do not want to pay to do it either ;-)

This statement is probably true of a lot of us. (It certainly is for me, at least.)

This statement may not be quite as true of as many people -- but it perhaps depends on how geeky you are, and how much you worry about the idea of losing access to your data. My own iPhone backups are stored on my iMac... and Time Machine backs up that hard drive to a separate (much larger) external hard drive. Interestingly enough, I actually took advantage of that very fact recently; I wasn't paying enough attention when Apple killed off 32-bit software compatibility in iOS 11, so I had some old data that I still wanted to keep, but which was housed in an older "notepad" style app, which hadn't been updated in years. (Indeed, it isn't even in the App Store, anymore.) When I realized that the app didn't work anymore, I didn't have to panic at all; I just restored a previous 10.3 update to an old iPhone 5 that I happened to have at hand, copied out the data, and I was good-to-go.

Exactly the .99 is not the issue

sounds like a recipe for disaster

Could have interesting results. When you're on a beta, your iCloud backups are stored on different servers than the standard servers. Could see some issues there.

Guess you can wait and see. Interesting workaround but I think I'll wait for Apple to release the X beta soon and upgrade the safe way.

confirmed it works, THX!!!

Will try this later when my iPhone X gets here and report my results back

I'm in this situation. I guess I'll wait for the official Apple resolution as I don't want to lose any data from my old phone. Surprisingly my old phone is still active. I just turned off my X for now. It would be nice if Apple came up with a solution soon.

Even if you edited the .plist file how would you loose data on your old iPhone????? The file is in iTunes on your Mac/PC. If it does not work you can simply backup you old iPhone again.

I was going on the solutions that downgraded from 11.2 to 11.1. I guess I could try the plist method.

Yeah, worst case nothing to lose. Can sit on X until 11.2 beta comes out and restore from that backup (which I thankfully did with iTunes before trying to revert to 11.1. It worked...except for apple health.)

I am going to try the .plist method tonight off that backup with the X. If the health data fails, I'll just set it up new with basic apps until the 10.2 beta comes out.

[EDIT: bringing the iPhone 8 back to 11.2 beta restored the health functionality. So I don't know what will happen if I take that .plist edited 11.2 backup (to indicate 11.1) and put it on the X tonight. We will see!]

Updating to 11.1 bricked my X.
I having been trying all the possible solutions and I keep getting an error 7, which is not in the list of errors in Apple’s support page.
