I had 2 separate people say Apple Watch was gay. I'm not sure why because these same people where ohhing and awwwing over the 360 4 months ago.

I think it mostly has to do with if people like or dislike apple. There isn't much in between.

Were these random NPC's? :D Or like your friends, etc? If it was a stranger it would be hard to restrain from hitting them.

Not got mines yet but a friend has and i asked him and he said his seiko 007 gets more reactions and compliments whereas the apple watch isn't even noticed by anyone...

For some reason people understand spending money on nice clothes, jewelry, cars, sports, etc, but they don't understand that some people choose to spend their money on technology. It's a hobby and a passion just like any other, but for some reason some people look at you like you're crazy when you like to have the latest gadgets.

Thank you! My hobbies are my tech and photography. People scoff but kind of understand when I've spent £1500 on a new camera, but I am in for a boatload of grief when I go back to work next week. I won't be showing it off, especially when out as the city where one of our offices is, is not at all pleasant (my phone stays out of sight, the town centre is that bad)..
NEver mind the fact it was bought for me by me, and for no one else's benefit. Sigh...

Starbucks has to do this extra step so you can scan stuff. If they see my phone it's made up in their mind to go to this screen already, but with a watch not so much. I look like a fool trying to explain how I want to pay with my watch, lol.

It's like: "How the hell do you not know are you living under a rock?" I don't say that, but I look dumb holding my watch up to the scanner. I'm supposed to look cool with it.:cool: Instead I feel like a tool.

Ha, I was thinking the exact same thing, there is no automatic reaction anymore for them to consider it a Starbucks card transaction like they do when they see your phone or a card. Same thing with Apple Pay on the watch, I had to tell them I was paying with a credit card and got a weird look because I didn't have anything in my hands. Makes the whole thing more awkward than cool. :)

I used it at the gym to check in (via a barcode scan)
I used it to pay for groceries at Whole Food
I used it at the mall to return messages
I even used it to quickly answer a phone call

Nobody really noticed or said anything (even when people saw me talking into my watch).

I just noticed you mentioned you use watch to check in at gym with bar code scan? Can you please tell me how this is done? I have a gym card I use the barcode on the card to scan in.... Is this possible to put the bar code on watch? Would appreciate anyone's feedback thanks

My Gym has an iPhone and Apple Watch app (LA Fitness)

Look at it this way, these people who give you grief will likely spend more on alcohol or cigarettes in a year than you did for your watch. And the watch is obviously better for your health. :D

This thread makes me feel like people are buying it just to show it off and act like they're special because they have one. Like they want the attention, just to prove how cool they are. I mean, do you guys walk into a room and wave it around, like, "hey everyone, check out my new Apple Watch and how awesome it is" or something??

I know people are excited, but man... A lot of this really just comes across as complete smugness. I'm sort of ashamed by it. I just bought one because I wanted one, knowing it's better than my Pebble Steel and that Apple makes very high-quality products
I read the intent of the thread differently, regardless of the actual responses. I thought it was to gauge public sentiment about the Watch—the general awareness of it, whether it seemed attractive, whether people thought it would be useful, etc.

I'm discovering people are noticing my Watch less with the stainless link band than with the black sport or classic buckle. I think because it doesn't look like a silver rectangle on a black band, though perhaps people are just becoming more accustomed to see them. Anyway, just an observation of mine. Not exactly scientific.

Not had any comments from members of the public, but have noticed a couple of people trying to get a good look at it without saying anything.

Had mostly negative comments from friends & family.
Jealousy I guess, their problem.

Had a guy notice mine at a wedding reception. Asked how I liked it and if I could FaceTime with it. Told him it doesn't have a camera and he just shrugged his shoulders.

I have had the watch since day 1 and work in a tech company so it quickly became just a part of my normal life. A couple weeks in after I had forgotten it's not normal, I wore it when I was playing keys in my church worship band.

One of the favorite shots of the camera guys at church is the "zoom in on the piano player's hands"....I got at least 20 comments from people after the service! It made me laugh....I think I distracted people from worship with my Apple Watch!

No one has commented on mine After ~5 days of wearing it. I was going to use Passbook for my Starbucks card but the screen is so small I wasn't sure if I could trust it to work fast enough and didn't want to be that guy holding up the line with his Apple watch ;)

I found a vending machine at work that has NFC payments to practice using my watch for Apple Pay with because of that same fear! It's actually really simple but the first time took some playing around with. Vending machine was the perfect learning ground with no humans to judge me! Haha

I got my watch on Monday, and kind of surprised nobody has noticed it or at least commented on it so far. I have the 42mm SS with black sports band so I think it stands out a bit less than some of the other models (which I kind of like). An acquaintance of mine has the same watch with the white sports band and he says he has gotten a lot of attention.

I don't have my watch yet but I did have a Pebble and a Martian Passport after the AW announcement. People would ask "is that one of those computer watches?"

Either way they seemed to be a hit with young people under 21. So I can imagine Apple Watch is something they'll want.

I find this hard to believe, I have a seiko 007 and love it, but it's a very common watch and doesn't stand out in anyway

No I don't have Apple Pay unfortunately. I was talking about just using the Starbucks card with Passbook. They scan the barcode.

The only time I really get noticed is when I use Apple Pay or my friends asked me questions.

So far all the responses have been very positive and everyone has said that's really cool etc. a few people asked how much it costs. No negative comments so far.

I have the space grey aluminum watch with black sport band, totally boring. I've had it for a week and today is the first time anyone noticed at work. We had a brief chat about it, but that was it. Mind you, I don't get out much, so that may be why no one else has noticed it. ;)

I was at a birthday dinner/party on Saturday and my watch overpowered the dinner conversation despite my best efforts to be discreet about it (e.g. covered by long sleeves, not playing with it, etc). Two people wanted one-on-one demos and said they are going to buy a watch because of my demo. Too bad I won't get a slice of the sale. ;-)

I had my first comment today! After having my watch for almost two weeks, two 13 year old boys in my class noticed and put their hand up "Miss, is that an apple watch?" Very distracting for them for a few minutes but then they moved on. I haven't had anyone else really say anything without me mentioning it first. Could be because it's STILL not available here in New Zealand so no one has really seen one in real life.
