I can see this as a possibility:
Sell an all-new Iphone 8 and 8 plus

along with the 7 and 7 plus or a 7s and 7s plus (with just a faster chip and both with 3GB etc)

If its just a single 8 - whats the appeal of a 7s?? that would only work if the 8 is 250-500 dollars more (an "edition" type phone)

Who would want the 7s - if the all different 8 is just 100 bucks more. If there shipping delays - people will wait... there would be no clamour for a 7s on its own

I hope an 8 plus comes with a screen of at least 6". I'd love more screen real estate in a similar, if not smaller, size than the 7 plus.

Honestly, I'd prefer two models over three. Both models bezel free OLED screen with only a size difference.
u r right i wish if apple would release an iphone 8 with 5 inch phone with reduced bezel and 5.8 iphone 8 plus

Love that design (if Apple can make the sensors / camera work through the display). Now from what we know the new display numbers from Samsung won't be anywhere near enough to meet normal demand (like the demand for the 7), so it makes one wonder if they just were talking to the MFR that is making the 7s and a different one is making the 8 perhaps.

Time will tell.

And why exactly are you giving PR to questionable rumours?

It is in the name of this site....

A Chinese tech blog bucked the iPhone rumor trend today by claiming it had received insider information from the Apple supply chain that Apple will release two iPhone models this year rather than the expected three.

Micgadget.com posted the rumor in the early hours of Tuesday, citing "some [of] our friends from Foxconn" who apparently "confirmed" that Hon Hai had received an order for two models, corresponding to two versions of Apple's radically redesigned OLED iPhone, the so-called "iPhone 8".

It's highly unusual for a supply chain rumor to go against the prevailing assumption this late into the iPhone cycle, and Micgadget.com has a mixed history of releasing information on Apple's plans. The site has also been pushing the idea that Apple will release an additional "iPhone 8 Plus" since at least February with little evidence to back up the claim, so we're covering this rumor merely to highlight our current doubts regarding its veracity.

For some time now, analyst expectations and supply chain hints have indicated that Apple will break away from its annual tradition of launching two models of iPhone and will instead reveal a radically overhauled smartphone in addition to its usual "S" refresh model updates.

The rumor trail began all the way back in March of 2016, when noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo laid out his expectations that Apple would launch 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch LCD iPhones alongside a standout "premium" OLED model, because of supply constraints on AMOLED technology. Multiple reports have since corroborated this scenario, with Apple said to be aiming for a more complete transition to Samsung-made OLED displays in 2018 when supplies become more available.

Indeed, it's possible Micgadget.com is misinterpreting information from its purported Foxconn source for precisely this reason. Multiple reports suggest Apple will debut its redesigned OLED iPhone in September, but it could still face severe supply shortages until perhaps as late as October or November. Therefore, while orders for Apple's two LCD-based iPhones may have been cemented in good time for the usual August-September ramp-up in production, orders for an "iPhone 8" at the supply chain level may have still not been pegged down.

Apart from an edge-to-edge OLED display in a typical-sized 4.7-inch casing, the "iPhone 8" is expected to include wireless charging, no physical Home button, and perhaps 3D facial recognition and/or iris scanning. In addition, rumors suggest that Touch ID could be embedded in or under a True Tone display, or could possibly be relocated to the rear of the device if Apple can't perfect the under-screen technology in time.

I think this would make more sense to have two phones instead of three. Keep it simple with one 7S model and an iPhone 8.

Wow.. what a shocker :rolleyes: this is only what I and several others have been saying for a while now. And why? Because their have been no rumours at all about the iPhone 7S, any iPhone 7S rumour I've heard, read or seen was then turned into an iPhone 8 rumour by the source...

Plus the fact I don't think Apple will use the exact same design for a fourth year..

Don't be surprised if we see an iPhone 8 and 8 Plus this year. But weather they will both have price rises or not who knows?

I wish apple will release 2 iPhone 8 this year

One is 5 inch phone and the other is 5.8 inch , I would buy the 5 inch iPhone that would be great

This is what I am hoping for as well, simplify the lineup please. Two phones, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. That is all we need. Same features on each, only difference is size. I'd go for the larger.

Might as well make this an iphone 8 year and skip the 7S. S phones usually get a key feature update for the upsell but it's simply not needed this year with a new design, OLED, etc. It'll be interesting to see what Apple does.

Hang on, some people think Apple will release the 8 and an 8 Plus with the major redesigns? You've got more chance of seeing pigs fly.

The iPhone 8 will have a similar screen size to the 7 Plus but will have the same footprint as the 7. There'll be one iPhone 8, one.

Apple would have to be stupid to release two entirely different models. Everyone will gravitate toward the "more technologically advanced" one and not the other. Doesn't seem like it would be something they will do but who knows.

The iPhone 7 is still the best phone on the market. No smartphone, the new Samsung model or any other phone comes even close performance-wise. So a 7s would obviously continue wiping the floor with it. Software-wise, of course, ios 10 also wipes the floor of any Android device.
The iPhone 7 also finally fixed the details that made the 6 series the stain of Apple design. The iPhone 7 still looks amazing to this day.

Sure OLED would be nice, but other than that, the 7s will be the best smartphone on the market and give Apple the time it needs to finish up the 8.

2? 3? Along with legacy(current) models... ugh.

Seems like the early 90s redux, with the 'Performa/Quadra/Centris' mess all over again.

One model in two sizes certainly fits better with the normal cycle than does two 7S phones with one 8 or Edition or whatever they call it.
Apple doesn't have a "normal cycle". Our monkey brains have evolved to see patterns everywhere, so we freaked out last year when the iPhone 7 looked too much like the iPhone 6s, when all that is holy in the universe told us that it should have been a complete redesign as Apple had done since the dawn of time--or since 2012 when the pattern became apparent. We freaked out in 2011 about that pattern, because the fifth iPhone should have been called the iPhone 5, and Apple called it the freakin' iPhone 4s!

Why do people object to having more models/sizes?

Just buy the the right size for you.

I contend that Apple needs to expand and polish it's lineup of existing products, while dumping unnecessary ones (like the rumored Apple car, or BS tv shows).

If the glass curves into the bezel horizontally and vertically...then this will be beautiful. It's a shame that Apple is no longer an innovator in smartphones and is playing catchup to SAMSUNG. Jobs was the man.
