Anyone who's worked with Asian suppliers, etc. would understand MUCH can get lost in translation, which is what I think happened here. Back in 2014 we heard Apple will launch the new iPhone 6 "math". Which we all know turned out to be the iPhone 6 Plus.

Just imagine the launch event broadcast, Tim onstage showing us how magical an experience it'll be balancing the phone between thumb and ring finger while twisting index finger to contact the Touch ID on the back of the phone as he drops the thing onto the floor while mumbling "we know your just going to love it"

LOL @ macrumors.

Rumor that Apple will release 3 models seen as acceptable. However, a rumor saying more likely just 2 models, jsut like the past several years, is "questionable"?

Apple has only skipped and "S" model once, but you're on aboard with the rumor that this year's model with be an iPhone 8, and not 7S?

Everything is a rumor at least up until June/July when real leaks start happening so to believe a far fetched rumor over a more likely one is humorous.

On the [strike]math[/strike] plus side. All these analysts did their jobs and their imaginary "supercycle" has boosted Apple stock through the roof.
So now they are stuck regurgitating the rumor until next years model. Admit they were wrong? Oh noooo..It was Apple who couldn't make enough techmothingamabobs fault.

This actually makes a lot of sense...

I'm concerned that the iPhone 6 / 6s had battery troubles. The MacBook Pro had problems with touch bar and display.
Should we still be early adopters of "new" Apple design and technological changes?

The so-called iPhone 8 is having prodution problems, design problems with the TouchID (I know, only rumours, nonetheless....)

I might go for a cheaper 7 plus in September

Watching the Apple news cycle year after year is always so entertaining. "Here's what the next iphone will be!" then "delays because problems with something something" then "actually, everything we said was completely wrong. Here's another rumor instead"

Would be a screen aspect ratio of 0.4596 ~ 74:161. Very far off 9:16 ~ 0.5625
This is my biggest fear. 16:9 is perfect, apps, UI and every piece of content works perfectly on 16:9. It's taken years to get this stability in ratio and it works great. If apple adopts the same 2:1 aspect as the S8 I'll be greatly disappointed and probably avoiding another upgrade...again...

You can't go wrong with a 7 Plus.

My predictions:

There will be an iPhone 7S, 4.7", i.e. a spec bump for the smaller model.

For those who want a phone with bigger screen & dual camera, there will be the new iPhone [whatever], i.e. the flagship, with all the latest & greatest features. This will replace the S-cycle of the Plus model.

It will be simply called the "Apple Phone", to mark the 10th anniversary & set forth the future of the iPhone.

Ot the bigger OLED model will be the Plus model; the Plus is known to offer superior features since the introduction of iPhone 7 Plus last year. They just make it even more superior this year.

Why would Apple have two phones with almost the same bigger screen sizes (5.5 & 5.8)?

I really hope this rumor turns out to be true because I think it's unfortunate that Apple's idea of catching up to the competition is to do it in a third and more expensive tier that may also be difficult to find/buy due to supply constraints.

When we all had no choice but to accept a modest iPhone 7 update, we did so under the impression that Apple was saving it all for the 10th Anniversary iPhone debuting in 2017. I didn't expect it to be in an even higher tier, which leaves the 7S models with yet another modest update -- what is effectively a three year old design being asked to go into a fourth year.

So I really hope this rumor turns out true and Apple releases two new flagship iPhones with all the features we've been hearing about in the iPhone 8 or "Edition."

Indeed the very pinnacle of human stupidity

"I have no idea what it is, or how much it will cost, or what it will do, but I am going to buy it"

I'm pretty sure most people have an idea of what the iPhone 8 will be, how much it will cost, and what it will do before ever hearing a rumor. At the very least, it will be just like the iPhone 7, but faster.

I do not care much if the "iPhone 8" does not appear this year, I just want an iPhone 8 thats perfect. If its yield constraints that would make the Touch ID sensor go on the back, then they should just wait till yield rates are higher. We had a home button till now, and can certainly use a home button one more year. Only an iPhone 7S and 7S Plus will not end the world.

Hopefully just the 7S and 7S Plus, and they'll delay the 8 until they can do it properly.

I really hope this rumor is true, because it means that the OLED iPhone will be affordable. Apple won't release just 1000+ USD iPhones, because the price will be way over the price of Samsung's flagship. So if Apple is releasing just two high end OLED iPhones, it means there will be an entry OLED iPhone for around 800 USD, which is pretty affordable these days.

It's highly unusual for a supply chain rumor to go against the prevailing assumption this late into the iPhone cycle, and Micgadget.com has a mixed history of releasing information on Apple's plans. The site has also been pushing the idea that Apple will release an additional "iPhone 8 Plus" since at least February with little evidence to back up the claim, so we're covering this rumor merely to highlight our current doubts regarding its veracity.
MacRumors throwing the shade. :D

I Don't Care How Many Models Apple Will Debut.
No Rear Touch ID Please.

Oh please. What's it matter? Whatever Apple rolls out will become the new perfection. Cue: "shut up and take my money."

Last week had a thread with many sounding like they were not buying if the new phone had that "dreadful" vertically-oriented camera cutout. Now that we've all seen more rumors increasingly implying that it will indeed be that way, that sentiment seems to be rapidly evaporating.

Give us about 5 more rumors that keep implying the rear touch ID and the sentiment will shift from "awkward", "stupid", "unusable" toward being perfectly fine... even more useful... even preferable.

Apple could do a headphone jack and shift it... or the camera... or the battery out to a dongle and this crowd will detest the idea at first rumor but then spin it as genius once we believe Apple is really going to do it.

You know how this works around here. Rumor anything different than what Apple is doing now and it's generally a stupid concept that "99% don't want", blah, blah, blah. However, give us a fairly consistent stream of rumors and all we need is to start believing Apple is going to do it to dramatically shift our sentiment from disgust to adulation.

We're the same crowd that thoroughly, thoroughly ridiculed bigger-screen phones when Apple clung to 4" as the perfect size. Remember those early rumors of bigger-screen iPhones? Remember those being ridiculed per "one handed use", "pants with bigger pockets", etc. Remember 1080p proclaiming in every thread how there was no "plus" iPhone? And then, the rumors kept piling up ("it's kind of growing on me") and then Apple rolls them out and it's "shut up and take my money" and "best iPhone ever." Our hands didn't dynamically grow. I'm still to see the plethora of pants with bigger pockets.

We know how this goes. Apple could roll out this next iPhone only in Pepto Pink, made of rusty razor blades, in a triangular shape and we'll gush the genius of it as our hands bleed from holding it... and we attempt to adapt to a trianglular phone. ;)

Apple doesn't have a "normal cycle". Our monkey brains have evolved to see patterns everywhere, so we freaked out last year when the iPhone 7 looked too much like the iPhone 6s, when all that is holy in the universe told us that it should have been a complete redesign as Apple had done since the dawn of time--or since 2012 when the pattern became apparent. We freaked out in 2011 about that pattern, because the fifth iPhone should have been called the iPhone 5, and Apple called it the freakin' iPhone 4s!

Are you trying to use logic around here?

We're also the crowd that actually believes this release has features held back for it because Apple wanted to do something extra special for a 10th anniversary... meanwhile ignoring the non-event of a much more monumental anniversary last April 1.

I stroll through these forums daily and barely saw any vertical camera refusal. But I've seen rear Touch ID refusal for months, and still see headphone jack lament. And still see many complain about the size of the plus phone.

Maybe you don't read these forums? And go to the wrong site? Because you're wrong.
