All in all it depends on what is going on the android side and what Apple really offers.
If its good, people will stay with Apple, if not - it is easy to switch to Android.
Meanwhile Android Phones and Android a very competetive.

Perhaps they’ll go the way of macOS and provide security updates to iOS 12 and have iOS 13 be exclusive to A10 and up devices. Just a thought.

Remember, with all their upcoming services, they won’t want to alienate customers with older devices.

I would believe 1GB RAM devices being dropped. So 5S, Air 1, Mini 2, iPod touch. But with the iPad Air 2 and Mini 4 still supporting it with their 2GB they are still very relevant. And of course all A9 devices no doubt.

So, A7 and A8 devices out, but not A8X or mini 4 with 2GB.

>overpriced garbage
>old devices running perfectly fine because of build quality and good software
>new devices will outlast the old ones by a huge margin because of said things getting even better.

Tell me more sweet little lies.

I paid 1000$ for this Note 9 in my hand that will only get 3 years of support. Yet we are complaining about iPhones that get more than that.

Apple wants to do something anti-consumer like this to force them to buy new iPhones?

I'll just switch to Android. (Ugh, damnit - my wife just bought me an Apple Watch for Christmas... and I like it... maybe I'll just buy a used iPhone from not Apple. Keeps it all working and avoids rewarding Apple for this behavior.)
Jumping to Android, where you're lucky to get two years of OS updates.

That's sound logic.

Tim Cook must be traumatized by the battery update and lack luster sales of the iPhone XS/XR. I don’t think they will do this, but I suspect the iPhone 5s possibly 6 is on the chopping block. My 6s still works just fine and its hard to see Apple get rid of it so early.

Not to mention, the company must want to keep more devices active to benefit from its services play. The more iOS devices in active use, its better for revenue.

If they scrap the 5s/SE & 6/6s, then it's clearly a power move to force user upgrades to raise the stock price, as I see a ton of people with the phones that still have the headphone jack.

If true, I have said this before, that in the future Apple might limit the iOS upgrade cycle to 3 releases after purchase, or 3 years. The problem with this, is that Apple is fundamentally different than Android.

Once Apple stops supporting a device, it gets no updates whatsoever. No more security fixes, no updates to have compatibility with newer iCloud/Apple Music features, etc.

Android can be stuck on an older core OS version, but all the Google services get updated regularly for years.

I agree. It would be a pretty dumb sales ploy to limit future updates to 3 years support. Especially when they are trying to market the iPad as a laptop replacement. Who would buy a $1000 iPad with only 3 years of support?

Lol, everyone up in arms over a rumor Apple might stop releasing new OS updates for a phone that's 6 years old.

Why would they continue selling the iPhone SE if it will no longer be supported later this year?

Makes no sense.... yet, I've come to expect such things from Apple.
It would make no sense for Apple to keep brand new SE on the shelves and not sell remaining inventory. And just because Apple got rid of inventory, that was not some hidden agreement on Apple's part that the SE would continue to work with upcoming iOS releases.

What makes no sense, is you and many other members here replying to the sketchy rumor as if it were fact, and bashing Apple without any facts.

That would be so stupid. I switched from 6s Plus to XS Max and wanted to try the huge betas on the 6s Plus. I hope it’s not true.

Whether this rumor is true or not, I am holding onto to my phone and upgrade when I decide to do so.

I don't believe iOS13 won't be supporting 6s / SE / Mini 4. They stopped selling 6s last year, so it's nowhere near to be called "obsolete", same for the SE. They will surely drop support of 5s and probably 6.
