I just spoke to several different NYC and Long Island RadioShacks and Best Buys.

The answer is a sweeping, "No."

You can't use gift cards to buy other giftcards, unless that specific store is authorized to do so and if they are, it's usually very specific which card you're allowed to get.

In other news, my iPhone I "reserved" at Best Buy in Bay Shore, NY came in. Punching out at 4:30 and picking up my sexy new 4" toy. ;)



If you're anywhere near the horrible store I wrote about above, check them out. They've got 3 or 4 iPhone 5's behind the counter as of this morning, but won't sell them to white people. :rolleyes:;):p

In TN i used my $50 RS gift card and bought a kindle gift card which can be used on any amazon purchase.
 
After the AT&T store ran out of their initial shipment at 1010am that helped almost all of the folks who waited overnight,I was in the store at 11am to get a new SIM,they received another shipment.And if those few that did not get their phones after waiting all night had hung around another 45 minutes they would have got their phone.
Just spoke to the store and the agent said to text him every hour if I like to see if a shipment arrived.


There were phones available Saturday? Maybe I didnt call around enough.

Best of luck to you......honestly. I know how frustrating it is to deal with retailers who do not honor commitments.

Thank you. I now know for the future that RS is not the place to go. I have decided to give them a couple of days and if I still have nothing then, I will check with my local Verizon store and see what their inventory is like. I could possibly convince a family member to take my giftcard off me or just use it on accessories which might actually be a good idea because I've usually skimped on iPhone accessories that would actually be helpful.

Just emailed the guy, no word back. Called the store and a girl said they'd have to order one for me. I was so optimistic for today too. *sigh*

I actually just checked Amazon's website and what another poster wrote is correct:
"Send a Kindle-branded Amazon.com Gift Card by e-mail, Facebook Wall post, print one at home, or order by mail with FREE One-Day Shipping. Gift Cards are redeemable for an Amazon Kindle, Kindle books, accessories, or millions of other items at Amazon."​

So we can get cases and the like from Amazon.com with a Kindle gift card. I wish I'd known that sooner. The only issue is locating a 5 in the city for AT&T...most of the Apple store phone lines are all tied.

Yes I received mine on Friday morning at opening,but I realize I'm in a small minority who did.I won't do it again though knowing that I temmpted fate this time and won.AT&T store for me next year.


So has anyone received an ATT Iphone 5 from there RS preorder yet?

I'm starting to get really disgusted with RS over this mess. I called another store on Saturday and was told I could place an order in the store and it would be delivered to my home in 3 days, how that's possible when I haven't gotten my preorder I don't understand.

RS offered me $200 for my pristine 4S and I laughed at her.I got $360 for it.
I wish my Apple store was closer-it's 65 minutes away so AT&T store for me next year.

Unfortunately the closest Apple store is a 2 hour drive from here. I was also hoping to trade in my iphone 4 on the 5.

Sell it on craigslist.I sold my 4S for $360 on the 14th and had many calls.RS offered me $200:confused:.LOL at them.

This is my situation as well. I want to trade-in, so I have to go through my carrier or RS.
 
Just called my local Verizon store and unfortunately they have no iPhone 5's in stock (oh the joys of living in a small town). Anyways, I guess I'm going to just have to hope my RS order comes in soon. Was really hoping that I would have luck with the Verizon store though. :(
 
Apparently att has not allocated any devices to RS and that is why we were left strained with no iphone 5. Verizon and sprint did that's why some of them got them and some first day att orders were in. I was told by another store first week of October is more realistic and I'm am still hoping that maybe Friday it will be in

Just thought I would update about what happened with this RadioShack situation.

I received a call from RadioShack corporate around 3:15 today. I spoke to 3 different people who all profusely apologized for what "allegedly" happened (that's the word all 3 used) and the last individual, David, said he had a "great solution" for me.

This, ladies and gents, is actually quite impressive.
David asked me for my zip code. I provided the zip code near work as I'm there now, and often prefer things to be shipped there anyway. He said he'd call me right back.

He did, and boy did he come through. He got my local RadioShack to have someone go and get a phone from another store, and hang on to it behind the counter with my name on it. He said, "Go ahead and get yourself to that store, and take your time. They'll hang on to it until tomorrow if you need 'em to. And get what you need. There'll be a $50 RadioShack giftcard waiting for you to use on any accessories or service plans (lol) you want."

Our conversation went on a bit about the disgusting nature of what happened, and his side of the conversation was very safe, to say the least. He's very well trained in corporate-speak, and was very careful to not admit the store in Forest Hills did anything wrong, but was very adamant about making things "right between RadioShack and it's customer base".

All in all, I'm still annoyed, and definitely won't go trying to get anything from RadioShack in the future, but I'm glad they responded and resolved the situation as quickly as they did.

As happy of an ending as we could hope for I guess.

Yes! Get the gift card, and then get accessories from Amazon. Cheaper, wider selection and you can use the remaining cash on anything you want. I'm going to do that as soon as I find an iPhone in stock elsewhere, granted RadioShack doesn't deliver as promised soon.

Glad they managed to get you one. Their misconduct was absolutely ridiculous. Is the phone you're getting for any specific provider?

That's what it's looking like. The locations I called that actually had some in stock were all saying they only have Verizon models. I wish I hadn't already sold my 4, I want to kill myself every time I have to pick up this CrapBerry.

How did you find out the corportate number to your local radio shack?

I PO an iphone 5 at my local RS. Just like the majority of everyone in this thread, I was told that I would have it on the 21st. Called on the 21st, and they said to try that Saturday the 22nd. Called Saturday, they said call on Monday. Called today and they said they would be getting them in on Thursday. I asked if it was definite that they would be getting them in Thursday and the guy I talked to said "Yes, definitely Thursday." I don't believe the guy at all though. The only reason I am doing RS is because of the trade in I can get on my 4 which I currently have, and I got my 4 from them the last time and got it relatively fast (weekend of iphone 4 launch). I dont know what the delay is this go round but I am not using RS for any POs in the future. Seriously contemplating using the $50 gift card for something else and going to Apple, AT&T or Best Buy and scoop one up from there.
 
You will get at least $300 for it.
Also,the person that said AT&T is not shipping phones to RS is full of crap.
There were 2 sent to mine and I got 1 of them on Friday.

that may be the move, mine is in pretty good condition..I could sell it for what...$200?

I wonder why Thursday I had a store tell me that they get normal stock deliveries Wednesday and said the PO should all be in Thursday

I can confirm that you can use your RS gift card to by an Amazon kindle card and buy anything on Amazon.

I gave up on my preorder, bought an Amazon KINDLE gift card at the store where I placed my preorder with no issues. I went straight home and redeemed the card for a $50 credit on my Amazon account, which i immediately used to order a $52 Belkin bluetooth handsfree call / audio car interface thing which is in no way compatible or associated with a Kindle.
 
For what it's worth, I purchased 2 4s from RS last year during the launch. Had no issues. Experience with RS is going to be based on region and by store. Consistency will nt be the same as the larger providers(Apple, AT&T, Verizon)
 
Well in my region all the RS in the area only received Verizon phones any sprint and att have not come in yet. Hopefully they get some soon because it make RS look bad. And I am not bashing them simply stating the experiences I am having during this PO for the iphone 5
