XCOM Enemy Unknown: 8/10.
•Definitely a great update to a classic game, but I wish the story was given a greater depth, especially for the cut-scenes as they were forgettable. The missions are very fun, but IMO on the long side, just an opinion as I do not sit down for long to play, and with the difficulty can be very frustrating if one wants to run through 1-2 levels before the night is over. The progression in the game is very fun, while trying to balance your economy, and your choices for allies. Multiplayer is great, but social interaction between parties is sparse.

Metal Gear Solid 1: 10/10.

I have now played it 5+ times, just wish on the same console so that I would have unlocked a few things with the same save....

iRacing: 9/10
Still THE BEST online racing sim there is, with it's organized schedule and rule sets. 9/10 only because price can be prohibitive and graphics are dated, BUT needing the best GFX card is not a necessity, just a good wheel, seat and pedals. 3+ monitors is almost necessary...

[PS3] MLB 13: The Show - Home Run Derby Edition - 3/10

I'm sorry for those who payed 4,99€, this is crap, neither a World Tour it has :/

Oh well at least was free.

Final Fantasy IX - 10/10 for the story 3/10 gameplay

Just finished my first Final Fantasy game and I'm impressed. I loved the story and characters; I haven't felt so attached to video game characters since Dragon Age Origins. Easily in the top five greatest game stories I've experienced. On the gamier side of things I'm glad I never played any of these while growing up. The partially turn-based and 90% luck/10% strategy battle system with hours of grinding is awful . Trying a newer FF game (XII) next so hopefully that's improved.

I just finished God of War III (I know, I'm way behind the times). I played the first two when they were released for the PS3, I really enjoyed them both. The third was exactly what I expected: finished the story, looked great on the PS3, great progress of the characters abilities and growth of the weapons, good puzzles..... a solid God of War game. I liked how by the end they were throwing all the types of enemies, each susceptible to a different weapon, so I had to keep switching to different weapons. I would give it an 8/10.

Now I'm on to Uncharted 3.

Oh! totally forgot I finished Saints Row 4!

Amazing start, good up to the last stretch and it gets a little dull and hugely repetitive. But ends in a good way. Was also really let down by the radio stations, not that you spend a lot of time in cars. 7/10

[PS3] Saints Row The Third - 9/10

Probably the first open world game that I actually finished since...Vice City?

Fantastic game, great fun all the way through. Very creative, and I have rarely seen a game that keeps rewarding the gamer like this one does. The developers obviously went the extra mile to make sure we have some actual FUN here. Very creative, had me laughing so much!

The sidequests got a little repetitive, couldn't bother finishing all of them.

Thanks to PS Plus - I never would have tried the game otherwise!

For some reason I'm on a gaming spree (normally it takes me 6 months to finish a game): I finished Killzone 3 last night. I had started Uncharted 3 but I wanted to play a FPS for a change.

I didn't feel that KZ3 was as good as KZ2. Killzone 2 was my first experience with the series and I really enjoyed it. I loved the "weighted" feeling of the game, when you run and shoot guns. The second game also had a better plot with a bigger (and tougher) ending.

Killzone 3 reminded me a lot of the Lost Planet series for some reason. I never liked the Mech-suits and their controls in LP, and I didn't like the flying suits here either. It felt too much like a run-of-the-mill FPS: I didn't get that impression with the second Killzone.

I give it a 5-10. Visuals were decent, game play was a typical Killzone, but the story and the level designs were poor.

GTA V: 6/10

Honestly, I kind of regret caving to the hype. It was okay, I did dig the size of the map, and the personalities of the protagonists (Michael being my favorite, because he reminds me of my uncle). The rest of it, unno, it just bored me to tears.

The mission system was pretty average at best, and the heist system (that was supposed to be core of the game) was what, 5-6 heists, and they got boring fast. The real estate stuff was a waste of time, the vast majority of Freaks missions were... well the same thing over and over. If I ever have to tow a car again, it'll never be too soon.

The races were far too easy, and got even worse once you modified your car in any meaningful way. I could have a horrific crash, fall to last place, and still catch up and win.

I do admit, Online's pretty fun with my crew. If I didn't have that, I would have traded it in by now.

It's sad, I had more real fun with SR4 than I did with GTA V.

This mirrors my exact experience with SR3 (which I finished within weeks and still go back to) and GTA4 (which I never finished or revisit).

I'll still pick up V at some point though.

*nod* I'm definitely not saying don't get it. I'm just not as "wowed" as I'd hoped to be. That said, Online is definitely fun.

Continuing my run through older PS3 games:

I finished Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

I'm a big fan of the series, I really enjoyed the first and second. Uncharted 3 started a little slow for me - just didn't have the epic memorable moments I expect from series.

I don't think I'm going to blow any spoilers for people on a game over 2 years old now, but the game really took off about half way through. I really enjoyed the cruise ship escape and plane crash. Both had great intensity and pace. From there it was fun and exciting to the end. The story had a couple good twists at the end that I didn't see coming.

I give it a 9/10.

Now I'm moving onto Shadow of the Colossus, I've been looking forward to this game for a while.

That's interesting! I was really bowled over by GTAV in a way no other game ever has. Thinking back to my other fave games (that are much older) I never felt the magic until years later. GTAV on the other hand... The first hour was magical. Everything came together so nice. Probably helped by getting into my first car when the game opens up and it played one of my fave songs :).

As a developer I'm trying to dissect it. As a game player I'm enjoying just getting lost in it. I boot it up to play for an hour, to do a few missions. But I just set little challenges (take a car to the top of Mt Chiliad, get into and escape from a 5-star cop chase).

I liked SR4 but I'll probably never go back to it. I feel partially ripped off by it and not wanting to invest in any DLC, but I enjoyed it until I beat it. Unlike GTAV there just seems to be nothing to do outside of the missions.

Rome 2: Total War

Should have been called, Total Disappointment. There are very few times where I actually get angry with a developer over bugs and unpolish. I was still able to see through a lot of Dragon Age 2's rough exterior and saw that there was a good game somewhere behind the fastened development that needed 1 more year of work. I didn't care for the bugs of Skyrim nor did I ever pay any head to the clippings and vertical horse climbing stairs in MnB Warband. Bugs are merely a small thing that usually comes along with ambitious games that are difficult to make.

Enter Rome 2. I've had just about enough of this company and their constant ********ting. Either they ensure some proper QA for the next title or I won't jump in. I feel like I was ripped off with this game.
It feels dumped down. They took away stuff and didn't add much to the experience other than more action. All the factions units look almost the same. It feels like it's 3 factions re-skinned in a million different colors.

It's really, really sad. Shogun 2 was an excellent strategy game. It was a smaller campaign but they transcended the Japanese history and put it into a complex board-and-strategy game that was unique. Medieval II was my favorite due to it's crusader medieval focus, and I think Rome 1 was subjectively the masterpiece of the series. I think we can all agree on that.
When it came out in 2004 it was such a major leap and it was so groundbreaking. It's a game that stands in the hall of fame of strategy games alongside legends like Warcraft 2, Red Alert, Total Annihilation, World in Conflict and so on.

The worst part is that the game is fine. By any objective stretch of the imagination they made the coolest looking massive-scaled war centerpiece I have ever seen. It's just that everything is such a step back. the general are terrible. the "sieges suck". the strategy is hampered by only being able to have soldiers tagged on to generals, and because you can only have a few dozen generals at each part of the game, your ability to control your settlements and towns become frustratingly difficult. as you cant have garrisons at every outposts your towns begin to rebel, and that in turns starts an endless circle of 2 steps forward 1 steps back. it's micro management when it's at its most dumb and boring. Don't get me started on the AI which kills the diplomacy and a sense of any real challenge.

Biggest culprit? the familiar but amazingly waiting-turn. sometimes your waiting 1-2 minutes before you can touch the screen again and play because the 50+ factions need to do their thing, which you cant see. it's beyond dumb and they need to go back to the drawing board.

I give it a 3/5. Rome 2 total war is a supermodel. Before you have it, you want it more than anything. then you get it, and you find out that when the smokescreen settles, that it's not as fun as not-as-pretty-but-interesting girl.

After playing through the story of GTAV, I figured out what really bugged me about it.

It felt like work.

It was just a grind to get through, and all the story stuff just felt like they took the best parts of better works of fiction like Friday, Wiseguys, etc and smashed them together to make a game.

But, with that said. I absolutely loved the characters, no matter how derivative they were. The voice acting and script really made them feel like real people, with real issues.

I'm going to take the blame here, this game just isn't my cup of tea, and I'm glad so many people like it. Plus, I was hoping it was going to be successful, for two reasons; for the fans of GTA who felt burnt by GTAIV, and for the fans of big budget games, because had this failed, it would have hurt the industry.

Also, just beat Arkham Origins. (6/10)

God this game. I'll be honest, I was let down, but not for the glitchy controls and abysmal frame rate issues. WB Montreal just kind of dropped the ball on this one, Rocksteady gave them all the code from the first two Arkham games, and somehow the game turned out as a glitchy mess. The fast travel system is a known glitch that will bring the frame rate to single digits. Many times during combat Batman would just be like "yeah, screw it I'm out" and stop responding.

And then there was the use of the Joker.... AGAIN.

I'd completely bought into the advertising that it was all Black Mask and the assassins. Nope. The Joker, again.

I'll be honest, this is why I'm not excited for the next Rocksteady game (They're working on another DC game set for a fall 2014 release), because if it's Batman, we'll get the Joker, again.

Tho, I'll admit, I was amazed at how well the "young" Batman's voice actor (Roger Craig Smith) sounded like quintessential Batman VA Kevin Conroy. Also, loving Tara Strong as the new voice of Harley, because good lord, if I had to hear Arleen Sorkin's faux Long Island voice again, I'd strangle her.

Y'know, thinking about it, the idea of a Batman game, by Rocksteady, with a GTAV sized map would be kind of amazing.

At least Assassin's Creed 4 has been pretty amazing.

That was my beef with older GTA games, but this one didn't feel like work to me (apart from those dull missions where you had to take vehicles to the impound, urgh! Who at Rockstar thought that was a good idea?).

Oh god... the tow truck missions....

Makes me want to go to the RockStar parking lot and impound all their cars.

I thought Part 3 was the weakest in the series. It just didn't flow well, didn't keep me hooked like the other two did. U2 is definitely the highpoint so far.

Total War: Rome II - Now it is actually playable and has been patched, I'll probably give it a 7/10. Not as good as Rome I.

Batman Arkham City - Fun, but repetitive gameplay and has a rather few garish plot holes I couldn't ignore. 4/10

Outlast - A nightmarish horror game. Very good at building up natural fear and executing jump scares. Not quite finished it yet, but I'm confident it'll be a 9/10.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes - 8/10

Its repetitive, its the same ol same ol, but its still fun :) If you liked any of the previous lego games, you'll like this one.

Journey on the PSN.

What a beautiful game. A bit short and I wish there was more to do but that was one hell of an experience.

Games like this is what the next-gen needs.

An easy 10/10 despite it's length.

Cannot agree more with you. Uncharted 2 was without a doubt the best of the series.

Beat Batman Arkham Asylum again. My love of the franchise seems to have faded a bit. I don't remember it being so easy last time I played. Tho, it reminded me why I loathe Arleen Sorkin's Harley Quinn.

PS3: Mass Effect 3: 9.0

Just finished the trilogy for the second time. Part 3 is a great ending to an incredible journey, with many superb emotional scenes that had my wife in tears even the second time around.

However, I do feel that the pacing was a little off in this one. It starts off great, with this huge sense of urgency and impending doom...and then suddenly we have all the time in the world to fly to a far end of the galaxy to look for "The Book of Plenix" for some random tosser on the citadel, because...I forgot why. The whole mid third of the game kinda drags. But in the end it picks up steam again and is ultimately an unforgettable experience.

DLC-wise, Leviathan and Citadel were very awesome and definitely added to the game. Omega was kinda bland and boring story-wise, just a whole lot of action.

I would rate this game just slightly below Mass Effect 2, which was near perfect IMO.

COD: Ghosts.
Played it at a friends house. Was a fan of the modern warfare franchise, but MW3/MW2 sort of slowly lost me with its stupidity. In COD:Ghosts, the stupidity continues. The Ghosts are supposedly a force of secret special operations guys who fight quietly behind enemy lines for a supposedly weakened America. They proceed their secret fights by storming into an enemy base with a burning truck and proceeding to shoot everybody loudly as alarms rang loudly. And not only is the plot stupid, but its somehow easier than the last COD games. It felt challenge-less.

It is fun playing as a dog, the only bit of stealthy backstabby sort of gameplay I expected from the game there is. But it dies and the entire team is cut up about it, but not seemingly when the token black person of the squad pegs it.

The entire thing is unrealistic, easy and very ridiculous. This supposedly weakened America, (fighting south America for some reason) appears to have an unlimited supply of resources and there is nothing really covert or secretive or stealthy about the Ghosts at all. They just march into pretty much every scenario and shoot everybody until there is nobody left to shoot.

2/10. Seriously, this game is garbage. It feels like Call of Duty fan fiction written by an adolescent. Maybe, one day, we'll get another modern military shooter as good as COD4.

wow, roadbloc! ok, first game in some months I've finished: Ghosts

9/10

I actually really don't care for the story in such a game except that the cutscenes should be as short as possible and no pretentious / epic dialogues as well. It should be action packed, and that it was from beginning to end. I also don't care for these stupid "let the player decide how to handle this situation" cut-scenes who do not provide any form of surplus or extra-replayability imho. Only critic would be that the scenes including triggering a specific button should not repeat the same button! I see that in a lot of games and it bugs me every time! That's a stupid 'challenge'.
So yes, it's generic, but I don't see that as a negative aspect - it's perfectly generic. I wouldn't criticize the story of a Mario game, too.

The campaing was awesome imho. Moonraker action was really cool SPOILER: (first I was mad that the opening was such a brief outta space episode, but that got corrected at the end); the diving too! Really wondering why they didn't include those scenarios into the multiplayer!? Hopefully a DLC can correct that (first time ever I'm looking forward to a DLC)!

Multiplayer is fun too! Really like the hardcore mode! The jungle level with only knifes and pistols would be brilliant though.

Imho, it's the perfect Wii U FPS.
