Honestly, this is the first time I actually like the Air’s design, I’m just not sure wtf the notch is doing on the display.

I think I’ll be getting the base model 256GB in Midnight. Coming from a 2015 MBP, I think it’s worth the upgrade and keep it for the next 5 years.

MKBHD says the midnight colour may not be the best choice. He will elaborate in a later video.

I wonder if it shows fingerprints or if it's because the anodization wears off. I’ve already noticed some signs of this in the hand-on videos around the USB-C ports. I’m not sure if this will show up -

If I was getting one, I'd get a clear skin.

Colour coded charging cables, though!

Exactly what I was thinking. I had an anodised Apple Watch once that lasted a couple of months until a chip appeared, never again.

I always get plain silver for durability. At least any knocks or wear will be in the same shade and not noticeable.

Bummed about the Wedge

Has always been one of my favorite things about it, especially with how low to the table/desk it got the front edge of the machine
Yeah, I’m bummed because the branding of this machine as “Air” instead of simply “MacBook” means we may not get a new ultra portable MacBook 12 or 13”.

Therefore, I’m still holding on to my 2017 12” as it’s the lightest, thinnest laptop Apple has ever made.

who trades in to apple, may as well go to pawnbroker lol
No doubt if I spent more time trying to sell it via other means I could get more money for my 2020 M1 MBA, however there is a convenience factor which appears to be very costly. Bottom line is I am not upgrading and I am sticking with the older machine. It is still perfectly adequate for my use case. Small, light and fast.

I'm surprised they kept the "Air" moniker for this model. They could have easily made a 14 and/or 16-inch version of this computer and simply called it the MacBook. Then they could have introduced a 12-inch MacBook Air that retained the iconic wedge shape and since it'd be the smallest & lightest laptop the "Air" would make sense.

It's purely a marketing term at this point and given it's their most popular model they've stuck with it. Personally I doubt we'll see a smaller MacBook given the iPad with (far too expensive but non the less) Magic Keyboard now fills this space.

Notch is silly. On their marketing pages they even show the help menu on the right side of the notch. It seems like on a smaller display than the MBP, it's going to be even worse. The menu bar isn't a superfluous part of macOS. It's a part I interact with constantly. I'd much prefer a larger bezel.

And I know I'm in the minority, but I still want USB A.

I do like the midnight color, though.

I'm glad I went base 14' Pro.
I'm leaning toward that, especially when you can occasionally snag them on the refurb store (if you're quick)! I was waiting for the M2 MBA (my wife has a base M1 MBA), but I think the extra money will be better spent on the MBP.

Two things I read through this thread trying to find mention of: (1) RAM difference between M1 and M2 MBA (LPDDR4 vs LPDDR5, from what I've heard) - how much of a difference will that make in everyday use? I would imagine the newer model memory costs Apple something. And (2) the speaker grills are now (presumably) on the bottom. I have a Dell XPS with speakers on the bottom - I loathe it.

Headphone jack is on the wrong side….again….

This might seriously drive me to the 14” MacBook Pro. I don’t think I really ever use my Mac without also using headphones and having the crossed wires cause they put the jack on the wrong side just doesn’t work for me. At all.
Shouldn’t have included it at all

so complaining about nothing then

I really like what I see. I'm sad I they didn't come out with more colors, but I'll probably get the midnight and slap a skin on the lid and bottom for finger prints. (Dbrand or decal girls). I need to feel them in person next to a 14 though. Since it's my secondary computer, I'm torn between 16 gigs and 24. space will either be 512 or 1TB. Honestly, M2 looks great, the machines look great, and everyone is bitching about a very small price hike compared to the M1's when everything else in life has gone up way more in the past couple of years and we're in the middle of a legit chip shortage versus what oil companies are doing lol. Same old Macrumors.

Overal, a good update. I am not very impressed with the newest operating system though. System preferences looks... grim. Hopefully dictation continues to improve and get close to as good as Dragon (it's always almost there but not quite as good).
