Hey I've been arguing with them too. Same store. Got the same runaround as you. I don't know if it's possible on here but if theres any way I could get you to private message me that email address I'd appreciate it.

The site doesn't seem to allow me to PM you. Do you have a full inbox, or PMs disabled?

I finally succeeded about 80% at the Best Buy in Knoxville, TN. I showed them the prior receipts, and all the items added to a cart to checkout on Apple.com. THe best they would do is $200 worth of promotions so they took $50 off my MacBook Pro (non-retina) and then the $150 gift card. There weren't willing to take anymore off as that's all Apple was doing.

They also said they finally received email of the SKU everyone has been using for the $150 gift card and how they are suppose to accept it. So everyone better hurry now because supposedly they are going to require one to sign up on their website with a .edu email address to have the coupon sent to. They then print the coupon out and it will apply the sku. I'm sure one could still get somoene to manually enter the sku, but once word gets out it may be harder.

Does anyone know when this $150 back to school deal expires? Will it still be good in August?

Just got back from three Best Buys to try to get the gift card. NONE would give me it. "it's one or the other." I had printed out every receipt posted in this thread and highlighted them showing $200 off and $150 gift card. UGH!!!

One of the stores I went to said it expired yesterday. I asked the store after that because I thought b.s. and she said "Our playbook showed no expiration date so it could be a while." I seriously hate Best Buy.

Thanks for posting the pictures! You got lucky!

dont worry guys. the best buy that i initially purchased my retina pro wouldnt offer me the education discount. the manager was being firm in only allowing me to have the gift card because it was their promotion. but the reality is, a PROMOTION does not replace or take the place of student pricing. it is NOT the same. i went ahead an bought the macbook and visited another best buy the next day and they handled the price matching there.

remember, its easier to get a price match at a best buy that you did not buy the macbook from because it is NOT their sale.

I tried that, and then the two stores ganged up on me LOL.

I ended up going to four different Best Buys (I didnt purchase my MBP at any of these stores) and none of them would do it.

Store 1: "It's one or the other. This promotion also ended yesterday but I could still trade the $150 gift card for the $200 off if you wanted"

Store 2: "This promotion is based on the store's discretion; we will not honor the promo along with the student discount. We don't even match Apple's education pricing here. Our playbook listed no expiration date on the promo though so it shouldn't expire for a while [when I asked about the previous store saying the promo ended]. I can trade the gift card for the $200 off if you want."

Store 3: "Yea sure no problem give me the SKU and I can do it." *gives SKU* "Ok just give me one second" *comes back* "My manager just said we can only do one or the other. The people in these pictures had their Best Buys override the system to enter it. The SKU for this gift card was just entered in the system today and because of such there is nothing I can do unfortunately.

Store 4: *rudely* "You don't get both. Stop trying to play the system."

Store 5 (further away store that I called on my way home): "Unfortunately we can't do anything because you didn't purchase the product here, however, if you go to www.bestbuy.com/studentdeals and register your .EDU email address, you will receive a coupon for the $150 gift card + $200 off the laptop. It is based off the store's discretion though. Hope this helps."

Store 6 (another further away store that I called): "My manager says that yes, you were supposed to receive both the gift card and student discount. What we would have to do is process the laptop as a return, and then exchange it, in order to give you the gift card, because of paperwork. Unfortunately, since we haven't received any of the retina macbook pros in stock yet, it is not in our system so I can't process this. We also do not know when we will get stock, but probably 1-2 weeks."

Overall, not the best experience. I find it hilarious how some of the stores just flat out lie about the promotion. At least some people tried to be helpful. I also thought it was interesting what the lady from store #5 said about www.bestbuy.com/studentdeals and registering your .edu email address. I did this but none of the coupons I received pertained to the $150 gift card + $200 off the laptop. :( Maybe if some of you can register your .edu emails and let us know?

Wow, that is some serious bad luck! I guess you might as well wait for your local Apple Store to get it, store #6 is an option as well.

Thats a lot of work for $150.

Yea really :( Hopefully that store gets some in stock.

Also here is the one coupon from the Student Deals section that pertains to the RMBP.

Thats a lot of work for $150.

I was going furniture shopping and the BB stores I went to were nearby so it wasn't a big deal. Additionally, $150 is a good sum of cash for someone who is actually a student ;)

I actually just took a look at it. Looks like they just updated that yesterday and maybe for a reason. They added the SKU for the RMBP: 5430514. I'm glad I got mine, looks like it might get a lot more difficult as they start advertising this and letting store managers know the deal.

i would not take the student coupon. it is just a way to mask the fact they dont want to give u the price match.

this is exactly what i did to get my price match. mite work for u.

you have to tell the store manager (ask for the store manager immediately) when you walk in that you just purchased a macbook yesterday and that the store manager at the previous store refused to give you a price match. tell them that price matching is their company policy and you dont know why the first manager refused to do it. tell them that you called multiple stores and spoke to multiple managers who all confirmed and said that the store i bought the laptop from should have priced match. once again, mention company policy. be polite but firm. if they try to tell you that they have a special promotion for the $150 gift card, tell them that the gift card applies to ALL macbook purchases and has nothing to do with the student pricing. one manager specifically told me that best buy managers DEFINITELY are suppose to price match when it comes to apple products. tell the managers to look up the student pricing on the apple website and tell them about the $100 app store gift card that comes along with it too. they will try to say that the $150 gift is best buy's way of price matching which is all BS.

act like you know exactly what you are talking about. be patient and best of luck. show them receipts too because they will look up the product # and all that.

That's why I bit the bullet on mine. THe store would only price match on the non-retina for a $200 discount max. So I lost $50 and considering I bought it in a state with a high tax rate, I spent another $44 in taxes. So $94 more than the best deal however, I found a store that it worked in. I didn't want to happen to go back home from vacation, drive around to the three more stores left in Cincinnati and find out none would do the deal. Then apple would be the only option left.

Compared to Apple it's only $44 more thanks to the taxes. However, figuring I got $1500 reward zone points, that's another $30 and Best Buy gave me 18 months financing compared to signing up for another credit card with Apple thereby hurting my credit score.

I'd be curious with the new promotion out if anyone can even get this deal anymore.

I actually had an interesting experience at Best Buy when I got my Macbook Pro - got the $150 gift card and $300 off.

How? Well, first they had a promotion where you get one of those "wifi" on the go things from Verizon or Sprint, where you pay monthly for data - and you get 20% off a laptop.

This may not work for everyone, but I needed a service like this anyway when I'm traveling, so it worked out. It gave me a $300 discount.

Then, the student thing gave me the $150 gift card.

They did not want to price match the Apple Education store, this was the best I could get.

Oh, the $300 off was on a $1499 Macbook Pro 13.3 inch, not the retina.

True. OTOH, you can sometimes get a price break if you appear interested in the maximum warranty but say the total cost is too much. I've had them drop the product price -which is key. Despite what a salesperson says they don't 'give you the latest model,' they only refund up to what was paid; so dropping the price on the item is in their best interest to sell the warranty.

How does that help you? The warranty is returnable even if you keep the product. Buy the warranty, get an extra discount and then return the warranty for a full refund the next day. You can see the laws on this for each state on the warranty documents.

+1

I like where your head is going.

Update: I called 888-BESTBUY and explained to the lady on the phone my situation. She was pretty knowledgeable about the promotion and said that it wasn't very organized on Best Buy's end on how exactly the promo worked. She said they have received lots of calls from customers about issues regarding this. She took my information, talked to the General Manager of the store I purchased the laptop from, then patched me through to him.

The GM apologized for the way the supervisor who dealt with me handled the situation and for the fact that the supervisor was uninformed about the correct education discount amount and how had I to argue with him over how the discount was $200, not $100, on this laptop. He then told me to come back into the store and he would give me the gift card.

The customer service rep was helpful. I also saw the supervisor that I dealt with there (talk about awkward eye contact, LOL). The customer service rep processed an exchange and gave me the gift card. For some reason the gift card is for $161 and some change. I'm not sure if this is due to the CA recycle fees or tax or something? He didn't really explain on why it was more than the normal $150. I saw the GM on my way out and thanked him as well for his help.

So after all this I finally have my gift card. All the shenanigans and lies from some of the Best Buys definitely put a sour taste in my mouth but I'm just glad it's finally resolved.

this worked for me. got the 200 off and the 150 card without having to show a student id even.

good thing too. because i lost mine recently anyways

good luck to everyone else

Thanks!

Here are my receipts if anyone who purchased one only received either the gift card or either the $200 off. Also if you did only receive one or the other I'd try calling 888-BESTBUY and ask to talk to someone in customer relations about a store issue. Then explain to them the promotion and what happened.

Man... thats awesome! Now if I could just find a BB that had them in stock...
