i have orientation for college early july where i get my ID but i was looking to do this thing at best buy and maximize profit, anyone think they'll they be sticklers about the ID?

Maybe bring an acceptance letter or something similar that is on the school's letterhead.

Thanks!

Here are my receipts if anyone who purchased one only received either the gift card or either the $200 off. Also if you did only receive one or the other I'd try calling 888-BESTBUY and ask to talk to someone in customer relations about a store issue. Then explain to them the promotion and what happened.

Looks like they just decided to credit you the $150 back w/ taxes to the gift card. Not sure how the hell they ended up doing that, lol!

Has anyone used that Best Buy inventory checker and found one (anywhere) that was available?

I got suspicious because there are never any in my area, so I started checking others... the closest I've come to seeing availability was a "Coming Soon" instead of the noraml "Unavailable"

:/ Stupid shortages / marketing ploy / incompetence... or whatever it is...

Yeah, I've been taking a look at it as well, but I honestly don't think it works at the moment for these. Just call early in the morning, preferably the minute they open and ask the rep to search an item for stock. Don't even mention retina macbook pro, just give them the SKU: 5430514. It will check in their system and give you a definitive answer. Giving names tends to confuse them.

Hmm, yea that's really weird!

Also the SKU for the 2.6/512 model is 540532.

was wondering if anyone had success with the base 15" MBP if so how much was the discount?

Anyone got both $200 and $150 Gift card from BB in New York / New Jersey area? I was refused to get both of them from many BB retail in NYC area.

Any success in the DC area? (MD, NoVA)? So far I've heard that yes we have a display unit. LoL.

With so many BBs refusing the Education pricing and the $150 gift card deal at the same time... I'm wondering if we can take the gift card... and go to the customer service desk after the fact to see if they'll do the price matching up there. I know a lot of cases, you're checked out in the computer section (where the associates probably are told one thing). Perhaps the Customer Service people at the front of the building will be more willing to honor the Education Pricing...

Most of the price matching is done at the customer service desk anyways, this won't help. Most likely when you ask for price match the first time, they will bring the issue to the customer service desk. Once your denied there, your denied!! Best bet is to call corporate and have them call your store and speak to the manager. Worked for others. Or, just try another BB.

I'm over trying to get the discount from BB. I'm just gonna order from Apple and wait. :-/

Fewer hoops to go through and I get 2% back on my new credit card! yay!

On a separate topic... does Apple still do the wireless drive sharing? I remember when the Air came out, you could install software on another computer to 'borrow' the CD drive... is that still an option or do I have to get my own external SuperDrive?

Why not try your local Apple store. Alot of people are reporting that they are receiving more shipments this week. 3-4 weeks is way too long, and no doubt Apple or BB will have it before then.

not sure about your second question, I believe that is an option if you use Apple's Airport Extreme router. So if you have that, there should be an option to do it. I know some other routers like Linksys have features like that as well...not entirely sure

I was able to get both the $200 discount off the computer as well as the $150 gift card.
I bought the computer originally in Nashville (I was on my way to Cincinnati). They would only give you $200 discount saying i couldn't get both.

When I got home (memphis). I went to a Best Buy that didn't sell Macs. Showed them a receipt from this thread. Told them I didn't know about the gift card until I saw it online. Lady at customer service called her Manager. Her manager gave her the go ahead. Got the gift card. lol

Oh, if I were only lucky enough to have an Apple Store near me... :-/

Was able to have BB match the Apple back to school offer ($100 off MBP) and they also gave me $100 BB gift card;)! Unless you ask, they wont tell you that they can do that.....the guy who was at the counter was like .."we'll do anything to to keep you from going to Apple store", which is like an hour drive from me!

Oh, a lot of us have asked. ;-)

BB is so inconsistent throughout the nation. Some places say yes, a lot of places say no. My local BB says no. I just ordered mine through Apple.com

got my macbook on saturday from lakeville. they gave an either or option for the gift card or price match. took the gift card. went to minnetonka best buy customer service, they gave me a 200 dollar refund to match the price. a lot of inconsistency but i went home happy. also note that when I was being helped at the minnetonka best buy that when the person helping me asked another employee "how do i enter the discount", she was corrected with the other person saying, "it's not a discount, it's a price match".

tldr, minnetonka bestbuy will do both.

I have pictures of receipts...but i don't know how to upload them.

Someone on the best buy forums just said that they're not doing the $150 GC any more...that it was just last week.

Anyone encounter that yet?

Honestly, I just want them to match Apple. Yes I'd love $50 extra dollars in my pocket, but as long as I'm not losing money I'm a happy camper. Add on the fact that I get Reward Zone points as well as 0% financing for 18 months and I'm even happier.

Anyone know if now or ever Best Buy will/would carry any bto models?

Mostly wondering of they'll have MBPs with anti glare.
