You people telling this guy to stop whining are ridiculous. Apple advertised this app as one of their big selling points, and it doesn't work as advertised. Would you guys also stand up for apple if the iPod app could only play a 5 minute song and them crashed? I mean it's not a big deal right, most songs are not that long. If the phone couldn't handle that many images they should code in a hardblock with a message and not just gave it crash out. They have rejected apps for similar reasons.

I love apple just as much as some of you do. Buy their attitude has been pathetic this launch. If any other company would act this way all if you would be railing in them.

I think it disappeared right about the time the stock crossed the $50 point, somewhere around mid to late 2005... :(

Nope, long before then. It's one of the reasons their stock was below $10. Remember the G4 Cube and it's cracks Apple said did not exist. For me, Apple customer service jumped the shark the day they limited tech support to 90 days after purchase or w/ AppleCare purchase. I remember the days when Apple support was truly amazing. However, as a company grows that level of service can't be expected to remain.

As for iMovie for iPhone, it's a tinker toy app. I would not expect them to rush to fix a minor bug on a $5 app. What a waste of company resources that would be. I think of the app as a proof of concept and little else. It's not all that usefull really. Maybe if you could split clips up and do some real editing on the fly. You get what you pay for here.

Apple's support documents are full of bugs and proposed work arounds. If they never fix it, you'll have a complaint. Otherwise, it's been out for like a week.

Why is it that everytime Apple posts simple troubleshooting, everyone calls it an excuse? Am I the only one that finds this behavior annoying?

An app crashed. It's not a big deal. Get over it.

Did they put specs as to how many still pics could be in the movie? These are all things YOU expect, apple never promised it to you.

If the number is rediculously low then it should be listed in the specifications, i.e., "movies can be no more than 10 minutes" or "movies can only contain 10 pictures"; etc. Without capacities listed the inference is unlimited. An example would be a digital camera with an SD card that could hold 100s of pictures but the camera unexpectedly stopped saving them at 10.

To the OP I got the original iPhone - because one of the biggest things it could do (and was advertised / hyped up) was it's ability to browse the web AND listen to music.

Yeah, 3 years later, still not happening.

While I'm not sure whether to commend your efforts on that movie, or even laugh at the prospect of 2 hours on that tiny screen - neither changes the fact that your phone was advertised as having this capability - and therefore your expectations are mirroring this.

I love my existing Apple products - but the path they're taking past couple of years - seems to be sealing the fate of any future ones. Things no longer "just work" - and it's becoming "our problem" --- that's a bad direction for this franchise to be moving in...

Th bottom line is this bug sucks and hopefully there will be a software update asap. Done.

When you pay for my phones, then you can tell me to stop whining. Until then feel free to exit this thread as I'm sure you had enough of a heads up to it's contents by the title alone.

Great point.
There is a big movement here on macrumors to look down upon anyone that complains about anything apple. As you indicated, these people don't have to read the posts, as your thread title has already given them the heads up to stay away. Yet they still read the complaints and then complain about people "whining".

Something tells me that the Apple defenders secretly want to read the complaints since they also are having the same issues but their fan-pride prevents them from posting complaints or questions.

OP: At least your phone isn't running windows! Every day I use my iPhone (I've had all four gens) and every time I use my MBP I am glad I finally made the switch. Apple is NOT perfect, but at least it works 99% of the time. Though my iPhone 4 has quirks, I recognize that all electronics have quirks, I am VERY pleased with the new phone. 

You can do this on the iPhone. I'm not quite sure why you have the idea that you can't.

That's an asinine theory. People find the constant threads that are simply whining over incredibly stupid things to be annoying. I mean seriously? I hate Apple because my iMovie app crashed? Grow up.

If so annoying why are you opening these threads? It is not a bait and switch where the thread title promised one thing but the thread itself didn't deliver.

That behavior, if you believe the posts, is similar to what apple has been doing lately!

....Apple advertised this app as one of their big selling points, and it doesn't work as advertised.

Exactly what part of this product doesn't work as advertised? Any one with an i-4 and iMovie can do every thing apple promised. You can take video, take still pics and put them into a movie and you can export that movie. That is a fact and can't be disputed. NOW..... it may not be working for the OP because of the content of his movie. This in no way indicates apple is being deceptive in it's advertising or that the product isn't working as advertised. Not sure what's so hard to understand.

Wrong. Apple says i-4 and iMovie can do X it does X. Just because OP wants it to do Y and it won't at this time, in no way means they are guilty of false advertising or lying about the product.

Folks, iMovie for the iPhone has been out how long now? A week? A week and a half? For crying out loud, take a breather. Software updates need a little time and a secretive company taking the secretive PR line shouldn't be all that surprising.

Now notice that I'm not saying "get over it" or that you shouldn't expect so much, I'm just saying that this flagship piece of software was released with some bugs, but is has only been a little over a week, so jumping off the deep end about it is IMHO a bit premature.

If we're still here a month from now without a fix, THEN we should start freaking out. Until then, deep breath.

Stop threatening to take them back and do it already.

This is where your post runs into a big wall of FAIL.
What part of apple's advertising was false? Can you shoot video? Can you take pictures? Can you edit those vids and pics into a movie? Of course the answer to all 3 of those questions is YES. NOW, did apple say you would be able to do a vid like the one you made? Did they put specs as to how many still pics could be in the movie? These are all things YOU expect, apple never promised it to you.

What exactly is your point? Is it that it's OK to have severe bugs in iMovie? Or that people should not ever discuss bugs in Apple software? Do you want people only discuss good things about Apple?

The reasonable reality is probably somewhere between the two extremes. It's inconvenient and annoying that the app crashes, but there certainly hasn't been a reasonable amount of time for a fix.

For a large company like Apple, it's not as simple as a lone developer changing a couple of lines of code and resubmitting an updated app. As with most software, they posted a workaround when a bug was found. Even if the app was a $60 software package for the Mac or PC, there hasn't been enough time for a fix.

I'm sure they'll fix it soon, but for now it's not any indication of some deeper problem and certainly not worth returning the phone over. I would submit a bug report for it even though they know about it. The more they get, the more chance it will become a higher priority to get the fix done.

What exactly is your point? Is it that it's OK to have severe bugs in iMovie? Or that people should not ever discuss bugs in Apple software? Do you want people only discuss good things about Apple?

Nope. My point is you can do every thing in iMovie that apple advertises. It isn't working for the OP in the capacity he wishes it to work. That doesn't mean apple is guilty of anything he or any one else here is accusing them of. I don't have an issue with people that complain as a matter of fact I'm all for it...... but to say apple is guilty of false advertising and so forth is just not true. The product works as advertised but not to the OP's liking.
Now should it be able to do what the OP wants it to? Absolutely. Is OP being a little dramatic in his charges? IMHO Absolutely. It's a brand new product on a brand new platform that was JUST RELEASED. There are going to be bumps in the road. Sure it sucks he can't export the movie he made, it really does. If the OP re-edited his video to a format that he could successfully export wouldn't that discredit his charges? Of course it would because the product would be performing as advertised.

Back to the complaining deal..... I am all for complaining. As a matter of fact I have been up in many a genius's grill "complaining" about many things like dust, cracks, non-working mic ect ect. I am pretty anal about my phones and have had many replacements. I however have an issue with multiple posts complaining about the same issue over and over again. When I first joined, I multi posted and was reamed for it. I of course said what many of the multi posters say trying to "defend" their actions and I was wrong then just as they are now. Apple sucks IMHO in many ways. I don't like anything they make but their phone. I won't waste my money on a mac when I can get the same thing and more in a PC for half the price. To each his own. I will however defend them in this case.... their product DOES work as advertised..... and with the i-4 issues. They have provided solutions that fix the issue or have offered to give 100% of your money back. They have responded stupidly I agree. They have however given every one a solution to their problem, what ever that may be, but some continue to bitch instead of fix said problem.
Now to go post this blog on www.blogspot.com ;)

Great point.

read above r/t complaining.
The next part of your post is funny stuff! Their "fan-pride"? believe it or not some people are actually 100% happy with their i-4's.

The software is version 1.0. I might be mistaken, but I have a feeling that Apple might put out an update at some point in the future.

NO IMPOSSIBLE! They've abandoned us! It's all a lie!! A LIE!!!!!1111 Hyperboleeeeeee!!!!!!!1111BBQ

(sound of writing furious letter to class action lawyer then jumping off tall bridge or some other such object.)

Well - Apple advertised this feature - and Safari would randomly quit or the music would drop out after a couple minutes of use. They went to fix it.... but they didn't. At least not on the original iPhone.

I paid 5 bucks and expect the thing to work. What I find amazing is all the excuses people are making for broken shxt. You guys are the type of customer I'd love to have at my job.

You paid $5 and you get a program that is good enough to cover that. Folks spending 2 hours to edit video on their phone need something a little more advanced than a video editing tool from the app store.

Shift it over to your computer and edit it like a normal person.
