Agree with others, this will probably just be the the lower model, M1 base machine to start. Higher spec models to follow later. I think it will be competitively priced. I’ll probably buy one as my first M1 machine.

just hope they have matching keyboard and mouse 😆

If I can get a 27 inch or larger with an M1X and 32 gigs of ram and a 2 TB SSD in a couple of colors, and apple releases new displays (so I can have three total 4K or better screens) that would sort of be the dream.

In my opinion, yes, although good all-in-ones do have a lot of appeal in in many situations. If given the option, I'd get an M1X Mac mini with 32 GB RAM option and an Apple 24" monitor. Even better, a fabled xMac with upgradable RAM and SSD. However, Apple offers none of those at the moment, and so the iMac it is for me.
I to see the appeal of a Mini with a monitor over an iMac, but since you want power that doesn't exist, that makes sense.

I see the iMac as an option for my mother (no accessories), but having to get a new monitor with every new computer seems wasteful.

I usually go with MacBook Pro connected to a monitor at home and everything is ready to go when I take it with me.

I hope the new iMacs are coming ASAP because I need a new one! Also it seems to me everyone is going to get silver or gray; I'm not sure all those colors are necessary...

Personally, I think this is a step back for Apple when they kept on stressing on being "environmentally friendly" when they are creating extra colors and options that would guarantee much more leftover stock when compared with currently existing Space Gray/Silver color options. Sure, add one sounds legit but having five options in total...... I find it difficult to picture.

But then hey, what do I know 🥴
Leftover stock? That doesn’t exist in Apple world. Everything sells out eventually. They aren’t burying a million unsold copies in a landfill like E.T.

And it’s not like the cases are the things replaced often.

Don’t worry Tim Cook will axe the colours that don’t sell well.

While this has likely been posted 57 times already, in various threads (sorry, I’ve not read every post - I know, slacking), but the Loaded in Spring Loaded is referencing quantity. We’re gonna get a crap-ton of goodies; Air Tags, iPads, iMacs, OSes, iPhone cases, Watch bands, etc. It’ll be a big day.
Prepare for disappointment. This has NOT been Apple’s MO lately. Instead they’ve been offering multiple, more focused events.

I’m guessing April will be iPad focused, based on the logo, which uses the same design language of previous iPad events.

I’d be fairly surprised if new macs come out before WWDC in seven weeks. They almost ALWAYS like to show off one or two new features that only work with the newest MacOS release (which will be previewed on June 7th at WWDC).

I don’t understand the fascination with an all in one desktop. Apart from being super cool, wouldn’t it be better to have a best in class apple monitor and the computer unit separate. I can change/upgrade either one as required. If space clutter is a problem you could always create neat ways of hanging a Mac mini on the back of the monitor. There is so much waste at the end of life of an iMac. It’s a shame that Apple can shout from the top of solar roof tops but not care about the environment for real.
I know a number of people addressed various aspects, but for the 27”, the biggest is the display. That exact same display alone is $1299. Add the cheapest Mini with an UltraFine 5K and you’re more expensive than an iMac, plus you still need a keyboard and mouse (potentially). It is by far the best bang for the buck if you want that display. And it is a gorgeous display.

yeah but what is a MBP but a computer with a monitor built into it. ;)

Just Hope it's an M1X or something with a better GPU than the M1 (which is ok but could be a lot better).

But the biggest category of pcs these days are laptops which have the monitor built-in.

I'm not sure iMacs are as wasteful as you think either. I don't think too many are using 10+ yr old monitors.

And it's not like used imacs of the past ~8-10 years don't have resale value and usefulness to someone out there.

If I were to buy an M chip iMac, it would be the black/space gray one and I’d sell my M1 MBP. If that green was similar to the g3 iMacs, I’d buy that no question.
How come you would sell your M1 MBP for the M chip iMac? Genuinely curious as I am debating on an iMac myself.

How to remember how to pronounce Bondi: James Bond (of Agent 007 fame) had his eye replaced. He was recently asked about it and answered... it's my eye... my Bond Eye. :D

And, no... Eye is NOT pronounced Eee Yee! 😆
Was it named after the neighborhood in Sydney?

Well, I can tell you they 'may' debut it, and I am not a 'reliable leaker'.

If the main headline is iPad then I cannot imagine they would be 'higher' up the event chain than all new iMacs.

The iPad Pro could grow into a serious computing device that could take on the MacBook Pro and Surface Pro. Apple tiptoes in that direction with every update. Maybe this time they'll finally get it there.

I don't think the change would need to be huge. Permit apps to be downloaded from the open internet and I think you'd suddenly have a serious compute platform. Once you've done that, I think a flood of useful programs from the Mac would suddenly be ported over to the iPad - all of the Mac apps which people use which have never been distributed via the Mac App Store.

Apple could make up some BS about how iPad OS is more like macOS and not like iOS to justify why the iPad Pro can run apps from anywhere while the iPhone still couldn't.

People are begging for Apple to release monitors rather than all in one desktop. Based on the comments I have gotten it seems 70-80% people would prefer a separate “Apple” monitor and attach their fully speced Mac mini to it.
The folks in the forums on THIS particular point grossly over represent the ‘desktop’ view, though. :) In the wider industry, at all price points and all features, folks in general are choosing a all-in-one mobile “whatever” for their computing needs. It’s not hard to see why, in these days of being able to work from anywhere, they’re not tied to home.

Yes, there are likely millions begging for Apple to release monitors, but there are hundreds of millions that are fine with their laptops and other all-in-ones. Many of those remaining few millions have even gone on to purchase a non-Apple monitor, so a big swath of them aren’t in the market for a monitor anymore.

New iMac? Yes please.
Color options? Sure, fine.

What I really want is for it to be usable as a monitor. I’d like to keep the iMac on the desk for my general usage, but I also want my wife to be able to dock her laptop and use it with a larger screen. And now that the M1s can’t run BootCamp, I’d also like to be able to connect up a Windows PC for playing the occasional game. If it doesn’t have this feature, I may have to really reconsider getting one.

Apple loses mindshare and “free” marketing when they don’t have Apple branded monitors attached to minis and Pros in an office environment.

But those monitors would need speakers and webcams and all that to be suitable. That increases the cost.

You mean Side Nay? 😂
Yes, and I looked it up, and it was inspired by the blue green water there. And it really does look like that.

Only been to Bondi once at night to a party, but spent some time at Marumbra. The tidal swimming pools in Syndey are a pretty cool experience. Just don’t step on any urchins.

Somehow, I don’t think Apple is losing sleep over this.
