KEEP THE PHONE AS THICK AS THE 4S AND PUT IN A BIGGER BATTERY.

THINNER ≠ BETTER

(yes i know these are renderings)

Don't worry they are close to as thin as the headphone port will allow. They have maybe 1 or 2mm max left to shave off. And I can't see them going proprietary for the headphone port.

This is absurd and yes I know it's just renderings but renders or not Apple is definitely obsessed with thin devices and making things 10%+ thinner every year but to what end? I've never met a single iPhone 5 or 5S owner who has ever complained that the device was too thick... however I've met many, MANY iPhone 5 and 5S owners (I'm one as well) who bemoan the battery life... Heck I finally convinced a good mate of mine to move to an iPhone 5S from his HTC One and he loves the phone but just cant stand the fact that he get's a considerably less battery than his previous phone. Additionally although he notes the his iPhone 5S is a faster device than his One, he would take a longer lasting battery over more polished UI or features any day of the week and he's not alone. Thinner and thinner devices has nothing to do with customers and everything to do with their pride in terms of engineering... So OK Apple, we get it... when it comes to industrial engineering of electronic devices there is no one better or smarter than you... Now can you stop trying to prove it and just give us a bigger battery and longer lasting phone?

Bluetooth headphones? Just thinking out loud really.

When do we get to the point when all our stuff is 'thin' enough?

And once we get there, will Apple be out of ideas on how to innovate their designs?

Lack of ideas? No. But Apple does have a hardware manufacturing advantage over competitors and one of those advantages is being able to squeeze stronger parts into less volume. I can't see making the phone any thinner being advantageous at this point. But maybe if they do the larger screen I will feel different.

Given the rumor of one version having the camera extend a bit because the casing is so thin, raises an issue for me. Why not simply make the device thicker and add substantial battery capacity? Even on a BTO option? I for one would pay a premium to have a substantial increase in battery capacity for a minor thickness penalty.

Have you ever added a spare battery pack to an iPhone? It more than doubles the system thickness and adds considerable height and width as well. My kingdom for a 100% larger battery capacity option.

Rocketman

At some point in the near future, the headphone jack will have to either change or disappear.

yeh if it disappeared and a bluetooth audio was used with much more bandwidth then you would just plug your fancy headphones into a little bluetooth reciever+battery thingy.

I've already got one in fact, in cost me $10, but you can hear the quality isn't all that great. More bandwidth and better ADC should do it. Will cost more than $10 of course but most decent headphones cost a lot more anyway so the customer has already made a large investment.

These look nice, but if the iPhone gets thinner then a case will be pretty much mandatory in order to hold it comfortably--and possibly to keep the whole phone from bending. At a certain point, making these devices ever thinner just get ridiculous.

Analysts will make their predictions based on these unverified specs used for renderings. Even if this renderings are fake, wallstreet will say Apple didn't deliver and drive the stock down after the keynote.

Yep. I can see the MacRumours comments already:

If this leak is genuine:

  • "herp derp, 'double down on secrecy' my ass"
  • "OMG, Apple don't surprise us any more! I remember back when *insert Steve Jobs keynote*"
  • "Wow, bigger screen. How innovative, Tim."
  • "Who cares about your iToys. Give me a 17" MacBook Pro!"
  • "Well I'm still using an iPhone 3G on iOS 3 and couldn't be happier. iOS 7 sucks!!11!1!"

If this leak doesn't happen:

  • "UGH, I sold one of my kidneys so I could get this new iPhone. Now I'm going to get the Galaxy S Note Pro Iris"
  • "OMG, Apple didn't release what they were rumoured to! I remember back when *insert Steve Jobs keynote*"
  • "Wow, same size screen. How innovative, Tim."
  • "Who cares about your iToys. Give me a 17" MacBook Pro!"
  • "Well I'm still using an iPhone 3G on iOS 3 and couldn't be happier. iOS 7 sucks!!11!1!"

One could argue that even if these renderings are fake, they are indicative of the public mindset desiring such a device. A hypothetical drop in stock price would be a result of "not giving the consumer what they want" in this scenario.
Who decided that this render is what people want?

Smart man - but Apple wont listen to you - this insane quest for lightest phone is driving me crazy - and no that doesn't meant I want an Android phone.

Is it too difficult to ask for two f'ng sizes 4.7 and 5.5 and 48-72 hour batter life?

Well if they increase the sizes , then thinner makes a lot of sense, since it shouldn't feel bulky while resting in your front pocket.

Never seen or experienced anything remotely like that in a year and a half of owning an iPhone 5 and knowing many, many others who do also.

Had the screen come unseated from the unibody twice. Nothing abnormal pressure wise. Apple replaced phone twice.

Lets be real... I hate some Apple products, I love some of their products too, the iPhone is one I love and will be no matter what lol.

I am an Apple iPhone fanboy for sure (I just don't like Android and yes I have owned an S4 and HTC ONE).

I absolutely hate the Apple TV however and love the Roku.

Can't wait for the new iPhone.

Musings

Commenters have said it will never be called iPhone Air? Why not? Apple will most likely adopt an Pro vs Air vs "soon to be defined all-encompassing standard product line name (MacBooks, iPhone C, iPad4)" going forward to create a 3 tier product line of most of what they produce. The exception will be specialty "hobbies" like Apple TV because 1) You don't hold it in your hands and the form factor does not define the product in anyway 2) they don't need to.

More likely Apple will use the iPhone moniker for the 4.7 inch phone because it will meet Steve Jobs' definition of one hand usability. The 5.7 or 5+ inch phone will probably be considered an iPad "mini mini" but only come with LTE/4G/3G configs so it can be used as a phone. Apple does not give credence to the Phablet category but that doesn't mean they don't believe in the smallest iPad with built in phone capabilties.

Also, why render a product that clearly has NO battery not a small battery as others have mentioned.

Begin the flames and rants...
