I'm thinking maybe 1024x768...except as I type that I realize THAT might not work either as interface elements might not work. And I don't think it's a great idea to have have developers explicitly code for...what would this be? THREE separate interfaces + 4 or 5 separate resolutions?
...

The original iPad and the iPad 2 have a screen resolution of 1024x768 already, so in theory if a 7" screen was designed with a higher pixel density than an iPad 2, maintaining the same resolution in a smaller dimension, then everything would work with no extra effort. This is really the only option to avoid the things I mentioned in my previous post. It's shooting for a different pixel density or resolution that brings on the 'fragmentation' of the iPad line I'm worried about.

hahahahaha Funniest thing all morning...I never felt this in my single days...but when I got married....I experienced firsthand, the digging and digging LOL!!!!!! Its like they the blitzkreig in there!! LOL

I make sure my partner buys small bags for a reason. She's forced to bring only the bare essentials.

And maybe a new/better CPU to entice a upgrade.
The new screen size & CPU would be a good selling point for Xmas upgrades making the new iPad old hat like the iPad2. :)

Not to me. Retina Display was a selling point, as it offered some tangible improvement, a CPU bump on a pretty much brand new iPad?! Who cares?! It's not like it's going to make any difference to all those 3D modelling applications you aren't running on it.

Also, this .3 of an inch, it's totally idiotic. Logically then, the resolution changes, which in turn means more difficulty with consistency and assets for developers to create, in turn leading to greater fragmentation of the ecosystem and a further increased development turnaround.

Never going to happen.

I'm not sure if I would be surprised to click on to MacRumors one day and see a 'Apple discontinuing computer product lines in switch to iOS focus' rumour - probably just me though!

:)

If that ever happened that would force a lot of content creation people over to Windows! Apple included. You can't do EVERYTHING from an iPad.

No new rumors, I guess.

Do the editors of MacRumors ever, EVER consider that articles about an iDevice shipping earlier than expected never, NEVER come true?

Oh, I totally agree. I love my MBP / iMac, couldn't do without them! Just seems there are so many rumours on iOS products, suggesting that's where the interest lies. That, and the increasingly lengthy periods between updates, give a little cause for concern!

:)

Not sure why somebody downranked my post though. I didn't give an opinion on anything. Silly people :)

If facts are water...Digitimes could not get wet if it fell off a boat. They have been circulating the same crap for years now...

The could upgrade to a more efficient 32nm CPU/GPU to reduce power consumption. If they can get down to iPad 2 levels and keep the same battery, you might get 15 hours runtime.

It still surprises me that they haven't consolidated the Touch into the iPad product line... if the Touch became a "small" iPad and the current iPad is the "Large", then a "Medium" sized iPad makes some sense....

Small / Medium / Large
16GB / 32GB / 64GB
White / Black
Wifi-Only / Wifi with ~4G

These type of rumors really have to stop. I don't even know why people entertain these type of postings. Apple is not going to release a 7-inch iPad and a they already have a 10-inch one. The only rumor on here that probably seems credible is the September release of the new iPhone. All that other garbage is irrelevant.

I just don't see how Apple could do this. Steve Jobs venomously denied anything to do with 7 inch tablets, and pointed out many of their flaws. He wouldn't have said that if there wasn't something in the works, as Apple has never being hypocritical.
And they can't have developed it just the time since he died.

Since it's just called "iPad" now, a lot of people are going to be (rightly) mad that their iPad that was purchased in late March 2012 is now replaced with a new model in Q4.

I can't see Apple releasing a new version of the iPad before Feb 2013.

The iPod Touch is ridiculously popular, Apple aren't just going to drop it like that. Parents even buy them for their kids just for the games... It's crazy.

Um...I know 3 kids that have iPod Touches and would rather have an iPad since they pick that up over the Touch when they are in the same room.

So think about it. 7" iPod Touch vs current size Touch...no brainer...

The iPod Touch is getting phased out...the 7" iPad is going to replace it.

New iPad by EOY?

No way. What sort of company comes out with a new product right after the holiday shopping spree? If you can't have it out by mid Oct, there is no reason to get it out until Feb or March. At least for countries that celebrate Christmas.

But, I hope the new iPhone rumor is true.

Apple NEVER releases updates during the holidays

Why do we always fall for that rumor of an updated iPad in December?

I really doubt the 10" iPad rumor for later this year, but I hope the other two prove to be accurate. Though as much as I think I'd enjoy a 7-8" iPad, I'm not sure if I could give up my retina display.

If Apple can "Retinize" iPhones (small) and iPads (large) then I don't think a 7-8" iPad (medium) would be any harder.
I don't believe Apple will ever release a non-Retina device/computer.

I do believe it is possible to ramp up production of a new new iPad in calendar Q4 for launch in Q1 (Apple's Q2). Accordingly, the production schedule could be correct. A new manufacturer may require a little more time as well.

A 7.85 inch iPad is a possibility and at 1024 X 768 would be minimally disruptive for developers. I still have my doubts, however.

Isn't the multi (world) band LTE chip due later in the year? If so, updating the iPad with it would make a lot of sense or it could hit sales outside the US as more and more LTE networks come online.

I think its probably a combination of all the rumors. The new 7" iPhonePad, to be released in September.
